What bench shirt do you use?
and was the 315 w/straps up? That’s a great # !![/quote]
I never did answer you on this. I use a custom super katana. It was made for someone else but she was never able to get it on.

The next meet is January 21… so pretty soon. It’s a long cold drive to Ottawa but it should be fun.

All the gear is washed and we leave on Friday. This is our first provincials with the addition of classic or raw lifting. We will have 83 lifters on Saturday and Sunday so it’s probably the largest provincial meet we’ve ever had. Equipped lifters are on Saturday and classic lifters are on Sunday. There are a couple of battles that I can’t wait to watch.
You know I’ll be thinking of you and checking in for results and video. Best of luck to you, my friend.
Checking in. Thought of you when I got up this morning.

So here’s the meet results:
Weighed in 58.8 kg, over 4 kg light.
Squat
130 - no lift for depth
130 - good lift
142.5 - good lift and a 2.5kg meet PR
Bench
72.5 - good lift
77.5 - good lift
80 - no lift
Deadlift
152.5 - good lift
165 - no lift
165 - no lift
Total -372.5 which is the same as worlds with a lighter body weight so my wilks was 421.9.
I was hoping for better but I came away from this meet with several positives. This was the first time that I didn’t get my opening squat and I didn’t bomb out. I ended up with a modest squat PR and I took my hook grip for a spin on the platform and it worked well. The only change I would have made is going lighter on my second deadlift and maybe sticking with the hook grip. Over all, I had a solid meet.
However I’m still exhausted. We got in late Friday afternoon and spent 2 1/2 hours in a referee clinic. We lifted all day Saturday and spent another 2 1/2 hours in our annual general meeting to review a shit ton on business. Sunday morning I weighed in the women and acted as Marshall for the first two flights of the Classic (raw) lifting.
We are lucky to have good friends and a helpful community. Because BB and I were lifting back to back on Saturday we couldn’t coach each other. However O’Boile and his wife Sensgirl were lifting classic on Sunday. On Saturday, O’Boile coached both BB and myself while Sensgirl was Marshall all day long in a freezing corner.
On Sunday, BB coacedh O’Boile and Sensgirl while I occupied the freezing corner. They were awesome. FYI, Sensgirl went 9 for 9 on her lifts. I can’t remember her total because I was doing my freezing Marshall job. However, all her lifts were easy and looked like warm ups.
sounds like a good meet-
yay meet squat PR!!
and yay friends
Congrats on the higher Wilks! Did you mean to come in lighter?
Big congrats on coming back after missing your first lift, did that shake you up at all?
Sounds like a good meet overall. Pretty different dynamic lifting in front of people for records than lifting in a gym for training? Good job on the PR!
A climbing wilks is indeed a good sign of progress.
The first squat: did you think it was shallow or was the judging particularly strict?
What’s next? Nationals?

BB said the call on the squat could have gone either way. It wasn’t super high but not a bad call either.

I have a few points of note:
-
I really hate how weak and tired I feel for a couple of weeks after a meet. The first couple of training days were hard.
-
I don’t know if I’ll be going to nationals. We still have a month to get our paperwork in. If not, I’ll probably do the Toronto super show in June.
-
I am committed to filling out my weight class. To that end, I have enlisted the assistance of my employer who is a body builder. I’ve given him an overview of my goals, 6lbs lean mass. He already has a lot of ideas about timing nutrition leading up to meets. I have a feeling there will be a lot of egg whites and chicken in my future. I find it boring but I think I really need to address it if I’m going to progress and be more competitive.
-
I had my follow up visit at the sleep clinic today and they told me:
a) I snore a lot
b) I have pretty bad restless leg syndrome. I guess I was running like a dog all night when I had the sleep evaluation.
c) I have unusually high brain activity all night - my head doesn’t shut off. He asking if I was a planner. He suggested cognitive therapy to relax. I’m thinking gin.
d) He prescribed ropinirole for the legs which is also used to treat Parkinson’s
e) I’m not sure how gin will work with the egg/chicken diet and the medication

I saw your vids- from the meet.
think I was using an ipad and couldnt see them earlier.
nice work at the meet.
hmmm I think gin is a good idea.
I’m guessing you are just kinda wiped out after a crazy 8 week block
of training and a meet.
