I went upstairs to change after training to find one of my cats on my bed chilling. He looked like he’d smoked a fat one and kicked back.
Wednesday August 17
Bench
bar-10
65-5
95=3
115-2
135-3-shirt
155-1 "
160-1 signals
170-1 "
175-1 "
160-2x1 "
The 160/170/175 are my likely 1st/2nd/3rd
Front raises
25-3x15
Front squat
95-5
135-5x3
The video is my fourth set, knee cave and all. BB says it’s cheating to bounce your ass off the floor but I beg to differ.
Ghetto GHR
3x10
lateral raises
5lbs 2x12
From now to the meet my mantra is ‘less is more’. That’s why the bench was so pared down. I have a tendency to do too much even when I go heavy and wear myself out before the meet. I’m trying to change that this time.
It’s absolutely not cheating to bounce your ass off the floor or off your calves in front squats. Glad you posted a vid because I’m going to start training these (with significantly less weight than you) later this week. You do a great job of keeping your chest up.
My coach is always trying to get me to pare down on warmups and accessory about a month out from a meet. But I worry that my strength will drop if I do so. Consequently, I tend to ignore him on that. Be curious to see how it works for you.
Nice dront squats, like the clean grip, it shows you haven’t abused your shoulders enough benching though:)
I can’t bounce like that, I am so creaky I tend to desend really slow and then pause for a moment.

When I hit a 225 bench maybe I won’t be able to use a clean grip. Honestly, it hurts my wrists and hands which is why I’m wearing wrist wraps but I feel too unstable with the crossed bb style hold.
I don’t know why you can’t hit 225. I see it all the time.

Because I’m a fucking weakling is why. I did however take a stroll through the open results. The biggest bench I saw was 160kg. Pretty awesome. These are women with 600+ wilks though.
The funny thing is that I came across the name of one of my competitors in last year’s open and masters worlds. Her totals at both were both significantly lower that the total submitted for the nominations by about 30kg and she was at the top end of 67.5. I know that some/many people play fast and loose with the numbers they submit but I’m still a bit confused as to why. Meh. Whatever. It will be what it will be.
btw, I will keep you posted as to how I do with ‘less is more’. I have a tough time transitioning from training to meet prep. I’ve always felt strongest when I first get back into gear but I think I’ve ground myself down with too much volume and intensity so by the time I hit a meet, I’m weaker.
Nice Front squats!!
nice work all around.

Maybe your “less is more” will lead to that elusive 225 lb bench.

I think you’re right. Truthfully I envy people that seem to come by a decent bench fairly easily. I don’t like being on the bottom of the curve.

You aren’t. That’s a ridiculous statement. Think of the Contreras study we were just picking apart. You’re elite. Stronger than probably 99% of women. Even in bench.
Interesting discovery about where the excess material fell on your squat suit. I 'm lucky to be in a fed that allows Velcro straps, makes it easier to utilize my squat suit to pull in too.
O your fr sq looked awesome!

I wish we were allowed velcro. It would be nice to open a squat with loose straps and tighten them as the weight gets heavier.

I just absolutely love the fact that you squat more (and better) than 90% of the douchebags I see in gyms all over the country.
Just pure awesomeness.[/quote]
Thanks Steely. That means a lot coming from a rhino ![]()

Totally jelly of the clean grip.
I have to hold the bar cross-armed and try no to pass out from choking myself.
Awesome work!
Friday August 19
Squat
115-5
155-3
195-1
225-3 straps down
265-1 straps up
300-1 straps up
320-1 straps up
300-3x1 "
The bar felt much better on my back with the straps resewn. I’m still a bit wobbly in the hole. I don’t think I like the gripper wraps and changed back to the convicts for my last rep which was the best and tightest. It’s proabably in my head. I also got a sternly worded lecture about still doing too much.
Bench
100-3x8
MP
60-15,12,11
DB row
52-3x15
Video is 320 squat

Hey, you’re long limbs may hurt your bench, but they lead to an awesome deadlift. The deadlift is about 1,000,000 cooler than the bench press.

Hey you’re right. I forgot about that…“the meet don’t start 'till the bars on the floor”. After all, bench is just a way to have a lie down between the real lifts.
