Size Matters

That’s impossible.

You can’t get heavier and get leaner. Didn’t anyone tell you?

Thanks. It may be the lighting in the garage but while I’ve been getting a bit heavier, I’ve also gotten a bit leaner.
Wow, now I really envy you.

So I watched one of the vids about DLing in the articles and it talked about making a “double chin” ? not sure I see anyone doing it, what are your thoughts?

You have a really nice build, first thing i noticed. Im amazed that your legs(and Snaps) are not bulky at all for the amount of weight you lift.

The double chin is from driving your head back into your shoulders/traps. tbh, I don’t do it when I deadlift but try to focus on it when I’m squatting. It helps keep my chest up.

I think both Snapper and I would be hard pressed to get really big legs since, proportionally, they are pretty long. I think we’re both the long limbed leaner body type. If we were guys we’d be crying about being hard gainers

Tuesday August 9

Today was another field trip to Andy Land for a change of scenery and a temperature controlled environment.

Bench
bar-10
65-5
95-3
105-3x3
115-2x2
125-1
115-4,5

Nothing special. Had a hard time keeping my back tight.

Squat (in loose bottoms)
135-5
185-5
205-5
225-4
235-3 with new Inzer gripper wraps - loose. They felt okay but I just wasn’t into wrapping so I left it at that.
225-3x4
235-3

It all felt really heavy and tough today.

Good mornings
135-5
155-5
175-5
195-5
205-5

Various playing around on chest press, lat pull downs, bicep curls and whatnot. Couldn’t be bothered to write it down since it was just playing.

Ran over a raccoon on the way home. Poor guy. All in all, a pretty bleah day.

Hey O what class are you in at IPF worlds?

Lol, i was going to say besides being first class or classy, ha ha.

She does have a nice build doesn’t she?

She is working hard, but it’s early and we only have one peaking cycle.
She is taking it slow and I predict a ton of success at Worlds.

At 2:55 of this video, Thibaudeau talks about how the supinated grip leads to pelvic twisting issues; the weird thing is you twist to the opposite side of what CT expects based on your grip. But he does mention the pelvic twisting leading to back issues with powerlifters, so I thought I’d link the video anyway, just as a fyi.
I was watching this video again and noticed that one of his training buddies keeps bending his arm when he pulls. Not the blond guy but the other one. He asking for a bicep tear at zercher speed doing that.

“asking for a bicep tear at zercher speed” is deliciously, philosophically paradoxical! Well done.

That guy is Chris Shugart (Velocity Diet guy). You made an astute observation, because in the comments to one of his videos, my recollection is he wrote that he tore both biceps doing something or other with rings. Guess he hasn’t learned. Poor guy (not really, that’s his wife working out in the videos -the red-haired one), I was watching and thinking about how he is so kyphotic in his thoracic spine when pulling that he looks like he’s got a hump back there. Wonder if his ears are burning right now…

These CT videos are kind of funny.

the recent ones especially.

I like your squats
O_b_s, how many weeks is it to worlds?

and BB is very sly.

I liked his video once I got past the irritating French accent. He explained the difference between a stiff leg DL and a Romanian DL and I could never figure out what they were. The other guys were just ornamental.

On Tuesday, it was 7 weeks to worlds.

Why do you say BB is sly?

CT is a very good coach-

BB is just kind of funny- nothing bad.

BB is also kind of a badass so its even funnier that he is quiet here for the most part.

Thursday August 11

Dynamic warm up

Squat
115-5
155-3
195-1
235-3 straps down
265-1 straps up
295-1 "
315-1,0,0 "
I dumped the bar on the second two. It was quite spectacular. I pitched in the hole and couldn’t get up.

Since I started with straps up 3 weeks ago, the bar hasn’t felt right on my back. It’s been sitting odd and I feel like I can’t get it tight into my back. It just feels like its wobbling on top of my shoulders and it’s uneven. That’s part of the reason I think I’ve been so slow is that I’m afraid to go fast because I’ll lose the bar.

295-2x1 straps up

225-3 straps down. This was an experiment to see if I just suck or there is a difference. The minute I had the straps down, the bar pulled beautifully into my back and felt secure. To make sure it wasn’t just because it was light…

275-2 straps down. Felt just as secure.

Unrack 275 with straps up… felt like shit.

We realised that the problem is likely how I have my straps sewn. The material is toward the back right in the spot where the bar sits preventing it from pulling securely into my back. It’s like two lumps. I’d moved them after nationals because when they were at the top, they hurt. However, I can live with hurt. I’m resewing my straps this weekend.

Bench
100-3x8

BB rows
135-3x10

Dumb bell overhead presses combined with tricep extensions using one Olympic dumb bell
42
10/7
10/7
10/2

The video is the second time I dumped the 315 for your entertainment.

This is the good 315. My depth is awesome if I say so myself.

Interesting that your excess strap material is where the bar sits. Of course you sew on orignal seams?

You’re right. Depth is awesome. And that was a pretty graceful fall for suit straps up and wraps.

I didn’t post the first fail because it was much worse looking. I shot out of the rack and laid on the floor. I couldn’t get up. BB had to unwrap me and get my crap off.

I don’t actually have the straps sewn on the original seams. For some reason I was thinking straps fell outside that rule. Regardless, they will be resewn on the seams and pulled a bit forward. Three layers of super centurian make a bit of a lump and it took three weeks to realize what my problem was.

awesome squats. very jealous. I have way short legs, and you and your long legs still way OUT DO ME!
keep it up.

Thanks, that’s very kind of you to say. Don’t forget I’m all geared up in a suit and wraps though. I will say this; long legs look great in boots but aren’t always squat friendly
