At 2:55 of this video, Thibaudeau talks about how the supinated grip leads to pelvic twisting issues; the weird thing is you twist to the opposite side of what CT expects based on your grip. But he does mention the pelvic twisting leading to back issues with powerlifters, so I thought I’d link the video anyway, just as a fyi.

To inspire you to squat heavier; one of my favourite quotes:
“I wouldn’t tell somebody that they weren’t a powerlifter because they only bench pressed, or they only bench pressed and deadlifted, but, what the hell is wrong with squatting? What are you, afraid? I thought powerlifters were supposed to be big, tough guys. Strap your cock on, leave your pussy at home, put a bar on your back and bend your knees!” - ‘Captain’ Kirk Karwoski

Gotta love Captian Kirk.

Squat
335-1
315-2x2 trying for more speed. Everything above was very slow and tentative. I don’t know why my geared squats have slowed to glacial speed.
295-3

I can remember the first time Trish and I met you at Bill’s and you didn’t want us to spot you since you didn’t know us and you were doing “close to your max” at 235.
Pretty amazing how much progress you’ve made looking back. I can’t wait to see you lift at World’s!

That’s funny. I remember that day as clear as anything. 235 felt really heavy and like a huge weight for me. I also remember that Trish squatted 205 raw. I’m not sure if it was her first time but it was impressive to me given her size. Now look where she is.
I still haven’t caught up to her with a geared squat in competition.
Will you two be out to watch/help? The master’s team is currently coach less.

Definitely not her first time - we’d been training for ~ 2 years at that point. She’d done a few competitions before that too.
Just to embarass her, here is her first contest:
(the nerdy Star Wars stuff at the beginning is all me).
I’m planning on coming out to watch/help on a couple of the days. Likely when Ulrike is lifting and if feasible, when you are too (plus the weekend for sure). I haven’t checked the schedule, but work is pretty busy right now and someone is leaving next week, so I doubt I can take too much time off.
I think Trish is working nights or evenings that week, so I’m not sure if/when she’ll be able to make it down.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that video. I’d forgotten that her first meet was at Jerry’s. His place is always a good one to get started. All I know is that I was impressed when this tiny little girl squatted 205 raw that day at Bills.
Frank and I are both lifting on the 27th and won’t be able to coach each other because of timing. Hopefully our coaching issue will be settled before the meet.
I heard from Ulrike today and may be helping her tailoring her suit so that’ll give us a chance to catch up a bit.

Yeah, that coaching situation is a bit of a mess. I was a bit surprised with who they chose in the first place, but I thought about it and many of the good experienced candidates are experienced because they are master lifters and thus likely competing.
I’d be happy to help you guys, do the numbers for you etc if you can’t find anyone… but is that allowed at world’s? I thought the coach had to be approved/wear the team track suit etc.

I sent a long message on FB. To summarize, I wish we had the juniors coach. I’m a big fan.

I forgot to thank you for posting the video. It’s funny how one little thing can translate into something else.
Sunday August 7 - First official day of training cycle for worlds
DL
135-5
225-3
275-2
295-1
325-1 straps up
355-1 straps up
video is the 355. I seem to have very little lean now. There’s a tiny bit to the left but it’s miniscule compared to a couple of weeks ago. I think the head up, tail out is helping.
295-3x3 straps up.
These were reset after each rep. I can’t do touch and go straps up. The pressure in my head is too much. I tried it and felt like my belt was too tight and there was too much pressure in my chest.
I managed to clip my toes with one rep and another I fell over backwards on the descent and scrabbled around on my back like a bug until BB picked my up by my straps and put me on my feet so I could do my last rep.
DL Deficits with 25s - video on next post
145-5
165-5
185-5
205-5
225-3
Dips - bw
3x10
Bar roll outs
3x10
These are a set of deficits at 185. They are surprisingly difficult for me.
For your entertainment…
Friday I took the day off work. BB, my younger daughter and I went to Ontario Place. I havent’ been there since 1991 I beleive. We had a great day on rides, water slides and watching shows.
This a my daughter and I by a big beaver. Who doesn’t like big beaver right?
My picture didn’t attach.
Very cool to watch your DLs. I notice your feet are to the plates in gear but a bit narrower raw. Maybe I should try that. Also, I’ve been advised to not look down at the bar when taking my grip. Interesting to see how you do it. I’m assuming your Velocity is for sumo stance.
Where’s the beaver pic?
[quote]ouroboro_s wrote:

waits for big beaver pic
Also any sort of deficits are quite difficult for me as well.
I tried to post the beaver picture twice. I guess the mods don’t want it. It’s a 20’ high inflatable beaver.
Snapper, I think my feet are narrower raw because of the difficulty breaking the bar off the ground going really wide. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to look down at the bar. My hand placement is pretty important and I want to make sure both my feet and hands are exactly where I want them to be.
defecits are rough
I almost want to try sumo again…
Nice work O, you are looking lean!

Thanks. It may be the lighting in the garage but while I’ve been getting a bit heavier, I’ve also gotten a bit leaner.
