Still recovering from the squat attempts?

Nah. This was an issue that came up and has been on-going since several weeks prior to the meet so I think I should get it checked out.

I’m changing my avi soon. Please bear with me.

Awesome. Now that I’ve invested in a one piece bathing suit I hate bikinis. Actually I don’t. I will admit though, that I felt terribly dowdy next to all the 20 something bikini clad ladies last weekend. I console myself with the belief that I’m smart, good in bed and can perform zerchers without tearing a bicep.
Lies! No one can do Zercher’s without tearing a bicep. Just aksk Pro… never mind.
Dropped some weight for the meet? Don’t you guys have early morning weigh ins? Yuck.
Sounds like you’re taking the shitty squats a lot better than I would have.
Singlets/squat suits are AT LEAST as hot as bikinis.

That’s true but I’m very competitive and was there to win. On the bright side, I made myself feel better by beating a bikini girl with my squat suit in the bathroom.
Yes, yes she shall.

This wasn’t too bad; it was 9 am. When you shit the bed you have a couple of choices. You can spit the dummy and act like a baby or suck it up. It’s not easy doing the latter but I’m always embarassed for people who act like babies when it doesn’t go well. Last winter at Provincial’s one of the women bombed and made her boyfriend take her home. That left one of their team mates without a handler. I lost a respect for both of them.
You can kick the wall and cry when you get home and no one can see you ![]()
You know, I really appreciate this ^^ because it’s something that I struggle with.
I didn’t compete at anything until I was 38 years old. And that was in a mob of other runners/triathletes. So powerlifting, where you’re on the platform all by yourself, has been a really different experience for me. And I do tend to pout when things don’t go my way during training or at competitions. It’s something I really need to work on and remember that my performance isn’t a reflection of my character. But my behavior about my performance certainly is.
Saturday June 25
DL
135-2x5
185-5
225-3x5
225 (belt on touch and go contest with BB to see who could get more reps: me at 225 or him at 315. I won) 13
Another DL game with BB 135 3 reps sumo/3 reps conventional switching with no breaks for max reps. I did 30 total reps. I think he won that one.
Total DL reps - 73 - Total weight moved 12,625lbs
Wide squat to pins. This was to above parallel to approximately where I’d set up for a sumo pull. We put a board over the rack to get our feet out wide.
135-3
185-3
225-3x3, 4
CG reverse band bench
135-5,3,4
DB tricep extension
30-2x10
KB side bends
30lbs-3x10/side
BB hip thruster
135-6,7,10
One of our lifters who post here from time to time recently pulled 297 raw at approximately 118lbs body weight at the Toronto meet. Her deadlift has recently gotten really good. She credits the above exercise for the improvement and very kindly demonstrated it for me after the meet. She had an overall awesome meet.
One other thing…
Am I the only one that thinks it’s insane that people actually believe that Andy Bolton is posting on our forum and answering random people’s questions? It’s clearly just someone pimping his book. I can’t understand that no one has even questioned it. Am I missing something? Are people just playing along or will someone have to let them in on the fact that there isn’t any tooth fairy either?

Exactly. I always feel like I’m on the cusp of a really great meet. I’ve been getting better and going higher but it’s so deflating when the bottom falls out. However, the people that seem to garner the most respect are the ones that stick around and keep going, competing and helping out even when things aren’t going well because we’ve all been there.

I just wouldn’t want to think about starting a meet an hour or two after cutting for weigh-ins. But, to be fair, I don’t really like to think about cutting weight period. Good thing I’m smack dab in the middle of the classes, 8 pounds over the lower, and 8 pounds under the higher.
Leaving your teammate without a handler because you bombed is selfish and poor sportsmanship. I wouldn’t be making a scene at the meet either, but you bet I’d be in a shitty mood for a while.
last time I did a same day weigh in I ‘accidently’ cut some weight. woke up and went down to my basement to shower, get ready, etc. let my dogs out of there room and my 150lb American Bulldog came out with 1/2 a deadlift sock hanging out of his ass. the extraction process resulted in me then getting rid of about 8lbs via worshipping at the procelin shrine.
yeah, that meet didn’t go so well:)

Believe me, I’m in a shitty mood. I just respond to the disappointment by doing a bunch of stupid things in the gym.
Monday June 27
Spent a while stretching and working on mobility especially cat/camel stretches trying to loosen up my lower back from all the pulling on Saturday.
Bench
bar-10
65-5
102.5-3x3
107.5-2x2
112.5-2
107.5-2x6
Zerchers - paused light
95-3
135-3
155-3
175-4x3
The first few sets I got on video. My hips come up quickly. The last couple sets were better. I focused more on keeping my ass down and shoulders up.
Power cleans
bar-some
95-2x3
105-3
110-1
115-1
120-2x0
high pulls
95-5 not very high or very pulley so I lowered the weight.
65-5,8,8
Cool vid of the paused zerchers. You’re quite good at those. What a surprise. Didn’t know you did power cleans. I’d sure like to get back to those.
I asked a question about zerchers on Dixie’s Finest log. Haven’t checked to see if there’s an answer. But my question was basically what is the benefit over front squats? Just another variation?

I think I find them fairly easy because my upper arms are fairly long so the bar hangs lower meaning the weight doesn’t move as far. Although I did get a comment on Youtube about how I should get a mirror so that I could perfect my form; it was sloppy and my legs are too far apart. I typically delete the stupidity. It was kind of like some idiot posted that my legs were too far apart on a dead lift. He’d never seen a sumo dead lift I guess. Maybe my legs are just too far apart in general. idk. BB likes it.
I throw p. cleans in from time to time. I find them hard and really enjoy doing them. I just don’t have a ton of skill with them. On my first set of 95, I fell backwards on my butt.
Did Dixiesfinest have an answer on front squats? I feel them more in my upper back and can definitely not move nearly the weight I can with a zercher. I find them both to be nice variations.

DixiesFinest is still an apprentice who keeps his mouth shut (sort of) and lets his wiser and lovelier (and uglier…pete) elders to answer the questions.
those front squats looked seriously good. hadn’t thought of using my belt around my neck that way for extra support…
