I mostly agree with you. It’s not a term I like or use often, because as you say, it exists only when obviously excessive, and so is not really about masculinity any more at all. And it’s not like bad behaviour is restricted to men.

Mansplaining is simply when a woman does not like the man who is doing the explaining. No one talks about its opposite - lady riddling, engaging in theoretical questions with no good (authentic) answer. Who is prettier, me or my cat? Which Temptation Island contestant do you like the most? Sometimes it is better to promote good feeling than be brutally honest.

Honestly I view it even more cynically.
Dividing men and women is easy. We do it ourselves for the most part.
I view the term as another cudgel to beat men into submission. They know which specific subset of Americans are the ones most likely and most capable to overthrow the government, and the know we’re pretty fed up with the status quo.
So they beat us down in hopes we don’t rise up and flip this fuckin chessboard and place some new kings and queens in charge.
It works on most men, but the ones it doesn’t work on - are the ones they need to worry about.
Which specific subset is that? Haven’t they already done that if Trump is in charge, or is he more of the same?
The non-clinical term is “shit testing”, but the Dr. David Buss-coined term is “innate skepticism bias”.
Because even they are skeptical of what they want.

Young, fit, rebellious, educated (not in the collegiate sense) men.
Often, this is white men, but the feminism games are not colored in who they target.
Women can be like the sky - bright, sunny, full of light. But sometimes their brains are like clouds. Clouds form a very definite pattern, so some women know exactly what they want. In the moment. But, like clouds, not even fifteen minutes later, if you look again you might see something completely different.

“Benevolent dictator” is how I operate. I don’t get many shit tests, but when I do, they’re usually passed by default.
A better way of looking at them is a bid for flirting. A girl wont shit test you if she doesn’t find you attractive. If she finds you attractive and shit tests you, play it the way James Bond would and you just passed the test.
