Simplicity

The complex varitations of the various equations used to maipulate the multitude of programs available for altering your physique, written by qualified researchers and studied by practical application leads me to conclude that no matter how much we like to give lip service to the K.I.S.S. principle, in the end, we ask far too many questions and are constantly looking for the ‘perfect’ approach.

Whew, big words wear me out!!! My hats off to Dan John, who pointed out to me via an email, that ‘everything works, for a while’, when I asked a rather repetitive question about a training program. I’ve decided that at my age, and considering my profession, OLAD works extremely well for me. Simple workout, excellent results. As for diet, ‘The Anabolic Diet’ is what I’m doing, easy and simple. See where I’m going with this. My life is already as complicated as I want it to be without adding TUT, set/rep, bodytype, excercise choice, tricep kickback, swissball curls, macronutrient intake and breakdown, and other stuff underemployed 18-24yr olds do. (Not a flame) Most of this stuff is written for students and people with sitdown jobs (physically not demanding). I’m able to train without obsessing on it. Same with eating. I work hard (physically), and I have a family life. Simple is the only way I like it nowadays. Again, this is not a flame to anyone, just an obsevation on my part. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

So much information. KISS, KISS, KISS. 38, not 21. Kids don’t know shit about older folks. Work hard, play harder, rest when your dead. Know your limits. I have NONE!!! Goals…dead and squat, dead and squat, dead and squat till 400 squat, 500 dead. (at 190lbs). Open mind for information. Mine others for information, especially people your own age. Oh yea, NO GEAR!!! Belt and knee wraps only. Be fair and OPEN MINDED. Sickness of my soul is my own worst enemy. I tend to ramble. More to come. Oh, btw, if your under 35 and reading this, keep your opinions to yourself unless I ask for them. You haven’t been where I’ve been and your not where I’m at, especially in life. TIA.

I hear ya - at 36, 3 kids, full-time job with LONG commute (105 - 120 minutes one way), married, house with wood siding (iow, extra work), big yard with bigger trees, etc. More to do than time to do it. Only time I can routinely train is 6 AM - before anyone else is awake. I am a Dan John disciple.

For the last 2 months, I have been doing very simple workouts: 5-10 minute warmup/dynamic stretch and ab work, 6 sets DL, 3 sets Clean & Press OHS, 1-3 sets pullups or Front/Back Squat, 3 sets Stiff leg DL from 2" board followed by either dips or incline barbell press - depending on the day. All-in, 30-40 minutes plus stretching post-workout.

Every once in a while I will mix things up a bit and throw in an off-day workout of OHS or Clean and Press 3x8 at lighter weights to work on form followed up by barbell curls or pullups (1 set to failure). Making decent strength gains while feeling good and not giving up looking good nekkid(pretty good anyway). I try to carry around a big rock amongst my yardwork too. I’m happy with how this is working for me right now.

DB

Benches 8sets of 4 @255lb, 2min rest
Rows 4sets of 6 @150lbs, 2min rest
bike ride

40 mins total SAS

Took my daughter to get an ice cream after as well. Steak, banana, and salad for dinner. BBL

Worked my ass off today. Tired as hell. Fuck it. I’ll lift tommorrow. That’s one of the nice things about thinking long term instead of short term. I didn’t ‘miss’ a workout (got one at work), just changed the day. Time for steak. L8r

Sat. Deadlifts, 8 sets of 4, 300lbs. Didn’t think I was gonna get the last 2 sets, but did!!! GM’s, 4 sets of 6 @ 165lbs, bike ride. Its 82 frickin degrees and probably 20 more in my garage where my weights are. Life is good. As you can see, this is like a log as well as useless ramblings. Bye
