Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries Part 2.0

Dude, huge congrats to her and to you… but I’m honestly tearing up for you reading this (not hyperbole and no, I don’t know what’s wrong with me). This is a huge step, and I guess we can all say it’s practice for the future, it was coming anyway, blah, blah, but I know this has to be tough. I’m in your corner, and know you’ve got to be bursting with deserved pride, but man I know that’s a stressor.

It really is and it’s making me grumpy one minute upset another, morose another, then angry for not being happy. Surprisingly hard to deal with. Need to pull my socks up at work today and go home and just be happy. Talking with you guys is a big help.

I know it’s hard, but if you can just not think about it for 5 days and then just be sad on the 6th, that seems like a win

That’s a pretty good idea. My wife is driving her to the school on Saturday. It is a 5 hour drive so they are driving up on the Saturday, staying the night in a motel nearby and then drop her off on the Sunday. I will stay home with the other 2 kids, so will have a daddy and kids fun weekend to take my mind off it.

Tuesday 16 July - strongman conditioning

Sand bag over shoulder. - 60kg - 132lbs.

2 reps EMOM for 30 mins
Did 8 reps in the last minute as a finisher.

Total 66 reps.

My upper back was pretty sore when I bent
Down for the first pick. But as the time went on it got better and better.
Either it was so painful the body shut down the nerves it that area, or as the blood flowed through there it freed it up and felt better. Really hoping it is the latter of those two. I guess I will find out in the morning.

When do we let go? How much do we let go?

Tough stuff.
Exciting…but tough.

Wednesday 17 July - week 2

Deadlift - trap bar 33kg bar
Bar x 10
73 x 5
113 x 3
133 x 3
153 x 10 x 5 sets (337 lbs) - RPE 5, 5, 5, 5,
All sets were without a belt.. These were a hand and lung workout. Pulls felt pretty easy.

Axle clean n press - one clean - strict press
70 x 5 x 3 sets - (154 lbs) RPE 8, 8, 9

Clean and press, with leg drive
70 x 2. Bit of a disaster, grip on the clean just died on the second rep, which fked with getting the bar high enough to get my elbows under it. Need to practice this.

Axle bent over row
70 x 10 x 3 sets (154 lbs)

Pull ups
BW - 8 x 3 sets
Just got these. My grip was toast.

Hammer curls
17.5 x 12 x 3 sets

This was a really grip heavy session. Back felt good after sandbag yesterday but biceps were proper sore. By the end of the session tonight my arms were rock solid. Quality

That looks awesome, but must be damn hard. I played around with a 100 lb sand bag a couple weeks ago but just picked it and did timed bear hugs. Now I wanna see what it’s like to throw it over my shoulder, but just getting it to torso-height for the hug was already pretty tough.

Couple thoughts on the comp:
How is the sandbag rep worth 1 point and the other implements 2 or 3! I feel like putting a sandbag overhead is so hard, given there is nowhere to grip and really drive upward force into it.

Imagine some poor schmuck at your comp trying to rep the sandbag 3x as many times as others on the log, because its SO much easier… weird.

On the high throw: be careful practicing!
I saw some guys doing a hammer throw event once. Looked like its all about using the length of the object to get a good swing. Depending on how full the bag is that could be simple or terrible.

G’luck!

The sandbag is only over shoulder not overhead, so much easier.

Thinking of just practicing down the park with a 12kg kettle bell, will just make sure there are no dog walkers or kids around.

Once you get the technique down its not too bad, its kinda like a triple extension only far less technical and more caveman style. I think you will find it easier than you think once you get the hang of it.

Never!! …right? I hope?

Oh that makes sense.
You’ll crush the comp with those weights.

lower weight just means more reliance on speed and conditioning for more reps. Not sure if I like that. LOL

Friday 19 July- week 2

SSB squat
110 x 8 x 3 sets - (242 lbs)
Smooth and easy.

Close grip bench press - should call these closer grip bench, hands about 2-3 inches each side closer than my normal bench.
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
90 x 9 x 4 sets (198 lbs) - RPE 7, 8, 9, 9
Pretty smooth. Good chest and arm pump.

Reverse hypers
25 x 10 x 3 sets
These are hard work. Really feel the pull in my lower back when I lower the weight. Lower back doesn’t like being stretched

Lat pull downs
72 x 12 x 3 sets
Solid stretch and pump

Tricep press down
32kg x 12 x 3 sets

Very good workout, happy Friday everyone

Squats

I’m just having a skim read of your log, and you seem to be doing everything now. Strongman and powerlifting and conditioning and bodybuilding.
