Much of carnivore eating is based around this very premise. Food culture in general is a byproduct of manufacturing at this point. We push a breakfast of processed carbs onto the public (eat your Poptarts, sugary breakfast cereal, oatmeal, muffins, bagels, toast, jam, fruit, and juice etc, but make sure you only rarely have bacon, eggs, sausage and steak!), spike the hell out of their insulin so that they need a snack before lunch. Thankfully, we have prepackaged processed carbs to āhold us overā to lunch: granola bars, crackers, cookies, etc. And then we get to lunch and weāre STARVING, and most of us donāt bother to pack anything so we grab the biggest most convenient thing we can. Which, on that note: somehow Subway convinced the world that eating a LOAF OF BREAD was healthy. And we have it with a side of processed carbs and often a big sugary soda. And then we crash at the afternoon and need a pick me up, just to get home absolutely starving and exhausted where we either pick something up from a fast food place because weāre too tired to cook, order Ubereats, or take some frozen monstrosity and toss it in the microwave.
Meat and eggs. Eat them, be satiated, be nourished, be happy.
My wife still can not under stand the difference between high calorie food and junk food.
That fact that a steak could contain 500cal and 250 in Big Mac burger from Mac Donaldās. The Mac Donaldās is healthier.
You pretty much summed up verbatim what Eddie talks about. He then expands a little further to talk about how they want people to eat this way because it then feeds into big pharma and people needing to be medicated. You cant make much money out of healthy people.

Not at all a Carnivore diet advocate, but definitely animal based in my approach. Most of my calories definitely come from animals. Some days as high as 90%. I dont eat much in the way of processed food, because AHA, it makes me feel bad. The major of processed food I do eat is also animal based, so your protein powders, and the natural Greek yogurt fetish I have

The guy I like most thought on YouTube for this stuff is Dr Anthony Chaffee. Carnivore for Years after he spent time in a biology class at Uni and the professor told the class he never let his kids touch vegetablesā¦he looks unreal, healthy. And I assume his bloods are good. He doesnāt present as a nutjob like a lot of carnivore influencers. Plus he moved to Australia and works here as an MD, so must be cool.

Absolutely spot on. Iāve seen a good quote that said āour biggest issue is we stopped eating food and started eating food like productsā.
I honestly thought I had a voracious appetite. As long as I had lived, I was ALWAYS hungry. I was ALWAYS looking forward to the next meal. Once I started eating only meat and eggs, I stopped being hungry. Itās wild. The body wants FOOD. When we feed it junk, it still wants food: itās full and starving. Theyāre starting to say that obesity is a conditioning of being MALNOURISHED. Yeah: weāre full of calories, but not of nutrition.
My interpretation is that the US seems to have a lot of post-WW2 holdovers. Thereās an intersection between manufacturing prowess + how do we feed a whole nation on as little as possible (mainly grains, and canned foods). Survival came first, holding off large scale illnesses came second (āenrichedā breads and cereals, iodized salt), and actual health and nutrition a distant last.
What we have today is a morphed version of that, with some flashy branding, corporate short-term profit cycles (always have to go up), and some cool food science (like MSG + new sugars = artificial hunger). On the plus side of all this advancement, fairly fresh produce, meat and fish are available year round to the whole country now. The selection is limited, because it all has to be shipping-friendly (at a cost of flavor/nutrition), but at least actual vegetables + meat is an option for every meal, for nearly everyone.
You just have to commit to taking the time to cook and clean. Which is a non-negligible time and effort commitment. Plenty of flavorful, simple, fairly āpureā recipes out there. 3-5 ingredients and good for you.
Personally, outside of the occasional can of tomatoes and box of pasta, I never even make it to that middle rectangle of the store.
There is so much truth to your post. If you just look at protein.
Letās say somebody craves 175 g of protein a day. Their average daily diet only achieve 120 g of protein. So they still feel hungry. If that hunger strikes at 8:30 at night theyāll go to the fridge. Best ways to look at making a sandwich. Worst ways eating cereal, chocolate bar, crisps(chips). And not getting any more protein. So they are still gonna be hungry. Meaning that 9:30 they are back in the fridge looking for more food.
Thatās just looking at a simple macro nutrient like protein. Start applying that to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. That can only be found in eg and meat. Itās no wonder people always feel hungry. The body will continue to crave sustenance until all of its micronutrients, vitamins and mineral needs are fulfilled. So people continue to eat the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, their processed white bread sandwiches, the microwaved meals knocking back 4000 5000 cal a day. Claiming to be continuously hungry. Of course they are the body is telling them that theyāre missing something. But people donāt realise that hunger can mean youāre not eating enough during the day. But also that what youāve eaten isnāt what you need.
There is something to be said for the good old-fashioned meat and two veg meal.
Or meat and 2 eggs, haha. Itās also amazing how often people are āhungryā and not hungry. You see this with kids a lot especially. Theyāre at the table saying āIām fullā, and within minutes are looking for the chips, candy, cookies, etc. Or the opposite āIām hungryā. Great, we have meat, eggs and cheese, what would you like? āNone of those sound goodā. Then you ARENāT hungry: youāre bored. You have ennui. Go for a walk and go get hungry.
Iām not to shy of potatoes or rice TBH. I think there is a place for these along with lentils and the like.
That said I do subscribe to the notion that 75%+ of your food should be meat based. There is no need to go crazy with the veg. 100g of carbs is enough a day. Along with a carrot and some green veg. There is no real need for 300-500g of rice a day unless you are running ultra maratons.
A lot of parents fall into the trap of ātheyāve been running about for hours they deserve itā. I see sugar and junk food as a drug. Would you let your kids do a shot of beer because they had been running about? Because the long term health implications for sugar are very similar to alcohol. Hell - kids that eat sugar get the SAME fatty liver disease as alcoholics. And sugar is just as addictive.

Thanks mate. It is Saturday morning here and the comp is Sunday. Just going to relax today, will get is a walk and some stretching / rolling. Need to be up early ish tomorrow (5.30) to eat and then get on the road. The comp is about a 90 min drive away and need to be there for 8am registration. Starting to look forward to it now.
Lol I was more thinking about the family. It is pretty easy for me to restrict what I eat or be consistent (I am pretty sure I have shown that). But thinking how do I educate and change the views of the others in the house without sounding like a loon.

My dad and sister eat largely animal based. But no one else. My sister wonāt eat anything that isnāt grass fed beef
, pasture raised eggs, and very few plants. Bless her cotton socks.
Dadās eaten bacon and eggs every morning now for two years, with quality yoghurt before bed. And wishes he had started that YEARS before hand, as heās never felt better, but didnāt know he felt bad to begin with. He eats a tonne of deer meat also that he gets for nothing. The jerky he makes from it is awesome too. My daughter will smash that, and grass fed scotch filletsā¦
