Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries Part 2.0

Monday 21 Aug - comp week

Squat
Bar x 10
60 x 8 x 3 sets
Short rest, slow paused reps. Just stretching everything and moving some blood around.

Dumbell bench
20 x 10 x 3 sets
Slow full Stretch reps

Pull ups
5 x 3 sets

And that was it, 20 mins to just do something and work off some stiffness.

I had a double angus burger for dinner myself! From Hardy’s! Angus burgers are the secret to the hidden gains of machu pichu

If burgers are the secret to your size then I need to live in a burger joint for a year.

Fillet Steak with mash potatoes and broccoli (thanks @QuadQueen ) for dinner. It was soo good.

Did some stretching and time on the foam roller and spikey ball tonight. Thanks @Dani_Shugart for the reminder.
Glutes and quads were tight, right leg ITB was sore AF. This is a good reminder that I need to keep up with my rolling.

What’s your plan for this “peak” week?

Do very little. LOL

I will have my last gym session tonight. I will work up to comp weight for deadlift and just hit a couple of reps. Do some light pump work and spin my legs on the bike for a bit.
I am not relying on any strength gains now just trying to keep my body fresh for Sunday. This comp is a local gym novice comp so it will really just be a fun day out with my boy and meet some like minded people. There is no real pressure to perform other than me wanting to do the best I can on the day.

If it was a power lifting meet the prep would be a little more specific this week, with me probably hitting some openers. But given most events in strongman are reps for time or moving events, I don’t practice them specifically the week before hand.

Recently saw a few reels on IG from an old school UK bodybuilder called Eddie Abbew. Still looks great today and talks so much sense about food and nutrition. Big push to eat natural foods, so nothing processed, low carb and also low frequency, 2 or 3 meals a day. Big message about how calorie counting is total bollocks and how it is whether we can utilise the food that counts and not the calorie number. Pushing eating real unprocessed food.
@T3hPwnisher no idea if you get on IG much but I think his message would really resonate with you.

Much appreciated man. I don’t use IG unfortunately, but good there is someone out there pushing a good message.

Thursday 24th August

Axle deadlift
Bar x 10
60 x 5
100 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 3 (286 lbs) mixed grip no belt or straps
All felt real easy. Grip felt great despite my dodgy right wrist

Axle overhead (clean first rep)
60 x 2 x 3 sets
Presses felt very light but right wrist still hates me.

Pull ups x some
5; 5, 5

Watt bike just spinning my legs for 10 mins

Did a bit of driving and too much sitting today. Right knee and hip were very unhappy with me.

The gym session went exactly how I wanted. Comp weight of the deadlift felt very light, hoping for a whole lot of reps on Sunday. Overhead felt super light although my wrist really doesn’t like cleaning the axle. Luckily cleaning the log is easier on my wrists. Couple days of rest and then it’s time to have some fun. Feeling ready.

One of his posts says

“Eddie isn’t it unhealthy to eat too many eggs a day?”
Answer
“You eat Fkn 4 packets of chips a day and you’ve never asked me if they’re healthy. Get your perspective right.

I love that quote.

Too much fats is a thing, 100%, but he Is right at the same time.

How many times have we all been criticized for eating good food? Vs how many times we’ve Not been criticized for eating complete junk.

That’s an imbalance in society that I am not a fan of.

My favourite vids of his are him going into the supermarket and looking at the section where people buy things for lunch. Juices, smoothies, yogurts, sandwiches, wraps etc. and basically saying it is all rubbish and not real food. Most of it is loaded with sugar and just makes you feel either crap after or hungry again soon. He talks a lot about insulin spiking and sensitivity. He talks so much sense.

Definitely makes Me hungry sooner that shit.

I walk in, and I head to the fruit and veg section
which leads to the meat section
which leads around to the dairy section
then loop around and head to the checkout lol.

The wife likes to do the up and down the aisles crap.

Lol

Yep if you go round the outside you can get everything you need. Even frozen veg is usually along the outside.

Right opposite the dairy haha
