13 is lucky for some
Sounds like you nailed the handling of the situation with your boy this time around mate.
Canāt be easy. Like Iāve mentioned before in our chats, our neighbors boy (6yo) is heading down the same path with the exact same reactions youāve always described. They are not handling it well at all, usually screaming back at him when he explodes rather than trying to calm him.
That calm approach you took will pay off long term Iām sure.
100% this is the right way, but it is also the hardest. I am used to pushing back when I get pushed.
This!
Your approaching of the situation calmly shows an excellent technique and a great example for your son to learn from.
Weāre all just doing this on the fly, and kiddoās are great at pushing our buttons. You got this.
Thursday

Frame x 2
60 x 2 runs
70 x 6 runs - (70kg - 154lbs each hand)

Back was pretty fatigued tonight, pick ups with the farmers felt heavy. Still a good solid session though.

60 x 3
60 x 3

Solid pauses on set 1. Shorter on the rest. These were proper hard work.
Pull ups - wide on thick bar
3 sets - 13, 10, 7
Very happy with 13, but was cooked after
Upper body pumps are insane right now. Arms
And chest felt so tight.
Nice work
Thanks mate, sessions are going pretty well right now. Just trying to manage a few aches and pains.
Going well is an understatement. You are a walking endorsement for consistency of effort.
Really appreciate those kind words. Itās funny built one of the guys who works at the gym commented on my bench last night. I said I was just trying to build it back up with some pause sets and he laughed and said looks pretty good to me already.
I think when we do this so long and hand out with other awesome like minded people on here, we forget how we look to other more normal people.
No training for a few days for me. Away for the weekend for my nieces wedding. Saturday went into the city with the wife and kids. My son had a birthday party to go to, so me and the girls went for lunch. Then we drove to the wedding venue about 1 hour from Melbourne.
Sunday did some walks with the family. 1000 steps Kokoda memorial walk in the morning. 2km walk in the rain forest up the mountain. Itās called 1000 steps but I think there are a little over 700. Steep and hard work but great to be out in the fresh air and good to make the kids do some exercise. They all moaned for the first 10 mins but they actually had fun by the end. Especially on the walk back down.
Went for another walk to a local waterfall in the afternoon.
Pre wedding party later tonight and then wedding on Monday. Good times
Back to work today after 4 days away (long weekend), and back to the gym tonight. I will basically just do Mondays squat session tonight and push everything back 2 days. I have a deload next week and then the week after is the week leading into comp. So I have plenty of time to get everything done. Body a little stiff and sore which always seems to be the case when I have a few days off. Hoping it means some extra recovery and squats will fly up tonight.
Wednesday 9th August - week 5
Squat
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
Sleeves on
100 x 3
120 x 2
Belt
140 x 1 - this felt easy
150 x 4 x 5 sets l (330 lbs) - RPE 8, 7, 9, 9, 9
What a difference 10kg makes. First set felt tough. Second set was better but then it always is. Third set got hard again. The last 2 were just getting the reps done.
Bulgarians
45 x 4 x 2 sets (45KG Dumbell in each hand) - that was heavy
Db bench
47.5 x 6 x 3 sets (105 lbs)
SS
Db row
47.5 x 6 x 3 sets
These were proper hard work tonight. Big pump after though so that is good.
Very happy to get all the reps with 150kg. I squatted this weight 6 weeks ago and it moved a little better, but the fact that I still got the reps when it felt heavier is a great sign.
Used an Eleiko bar for squatting and the knurling tore up my back something good. Shower after was interesting.
The extra rest didnāt really help but it didnāt hinder either. Just a hard session, exactly like the last week of a block should be. Happy that is over.
I abhor these as well. I kinda like pistol squats (because they look cool), but any other single leg exercise is the worst. Nice job for getting them in!
I tried to do a single leg body weight squat a few weeks back when I was having a remedial massage. She wanted to see where my leg / hip was tight. It was a disasterā¦LOL
I must have looked like a one legged drunk trying to skip.
Thursday 10th August - strongman even practice
Farmers carry
Empty handles (20kg each) - 2 runs
60kg each hand - 2 runs
70kg each hand - 5 runs
Left calf got a big knot in it after the first run at 70. Probably trying to go too fast. Nursed it a little on the rest.
The pick ups felt really good today. It made a difference doing these the day before deadlift rather than after. Back felt so much stronger.
Leg doms is pretty full on today, especially in my calves. Deadlift tonight will be interesting for sure.
Friday 11th August - week 5
Axle deadlift
Bar x 10
60 x 5
100 x 3
Mixed grip
140 x 2
160 x 5 x 3 sets - (352 lbs) - RPE 7, 7, 7
160 x max - 12 reps PR
Had maybe 2 in the tank on the max set but didnāt want them to get ugly/
Axle overhead push press
60 x 3 (132 lbs)
65 x 3 (143 lbs)
70 x 3 (154 lbs)
75 x 3 (165 lbs)

Could have done more but saving something
For log practice at the weekend.

Feeling swole as Fck!
Very very nice Friday night session. Loving these axle PRās.
