It was press that stalled for me too. Hell, I started going backwards. It’s psychological for me. I don’t like AMRAP sets.

I don’t like amrap either I just set a number to hit and rack it. I make the money on down sets and volume.
I do the same thing, actually. I decide how many reps I’m going to do before I start. If it goes exceptionally easy, I may do an extra rep or 2, but that doesn’t happen that often anymore.
I wouldn’t say I love amrap. But when you have followed a rigid program for 9 months and only done prescribed reps. Having one set where I can just push and push is going to be fun!!

But remember Duke there is progress to be made using either method so don’t narrow your training vision too much.
Yeah man. I’m not doing Amrap sets right now. (Well i have a few sets in my next 4 wwek cycle towards the end) because i feel like doing that I’ll do shitty reps when im really fatigued and right now i want to program proper movement patterns with my lifts.
I amrap my last 3 weeks of training with capped sets. This week I do the prescribed reps and then do some first set down sets. 3x8 on upper body and 3x5 lower body.
I’ve done 5x8 or 5x5 in the past with amrap and jokers when my lifts were much weaker.
Woke at 85.4kg, going to up the carbs a little this week and will be adding back creatine after a week off for the deload. Will try and make the scales move up in the next three weeks and will also add some new pics to see the progress.

I just remembered how much I hate 531 BBB. Omg my quads were so pumped I couldn’t walk around the gym, my lungs were burning, my head was light and I kept burping up bile.
The superset bench and row was also a big lung buster and hammies were cramping up. Was too tired to do any more accessories.
Bloody great workout.
I have EOMS - early onset muscle soreness !!! Just walking up stairs to check on the kids at bed time was a struggle. Not looking forward to the rest of the week! Lol
And that’s why I’ve never done BBB. I just can’t do all that volume in one exercise - especially with a barbell. Something will always start to hurt.
So you just more than doubled your previous rep PR for squats…

I think that is mostly a function of not doing high reps or amrap with that weight for over a year. However it is a true improvement over that time so shows what can be done with consistent work. I rekon I had a few more in me but if I kept going I don’t think I would have finished the rest of the workout !!
Other than it being tough, mostly on my conditioning it wasn’t that bad. I actually enjoyed the lighter weight squats for volume as it gives me a chance to work on speed. Body can really feel it today. If the next 3 weeks combined with food and sleep don’t make me grow then I don’t know what to do next ![]()
