Ok general health update for those that are interested. I had another blood test in Friday and got the results today. This was six weeks after my first test. The blood was taken in the afternoon when I was hydrated and had eaten. Dr did think that because the last test was fasted I may have been a little dehydrated.
Test result were much better this time
Last test my kidney function was showing 50% this time it was 65% (59+ is good for my age)
My creatine was 140 last time and this time it was 114 (under 110 is the range).
Only real change in 6 weeks is I have cut out all my red meat at lunch time and have chicken or tuna instead.
We will do the test again in 3 months and will test cholesterol at the same time but doctor is not concerned.
I still have to see a urologist in mid April for something else but for now there is nothing to be concerned about.
Enough food. And for carbs don’t only take candy and such - made that mistake before. Don’t underestimate how long such a day can get. If you don’t eat sufficiently and/ or only eat crap, your stomach is going to take revenge around the time the last events roll around.
which brings me to caffeine/ stimulants: Don’t forget this is a long day. Time your caffeine accordingly, especially if you’re a pre workout guy, to avoid crashes.
Some of the more ‘extra’ stuff (that’s not necessary):
a good heat cream can be nice
a knee wrap for compression if you for example strain a hammie.
Yes of course we do mate. Every Aussie household has those in the shed. It was a good idea and whilst I know the gym will have chairs for spectators etc, it wont hurt to throw a couple of these in the car just in case.
The comp is a novice entry comp designed to give people a taste of strongman. All the events are the same but the weights are a little lighter than the open comp, which is perfect for a more mature person like me. LOL
Comp is the Saturday - 1st Apil (and thats no joke) In Melbourne Australia at a gym about 20 mins from my home called Iron Revolution. This is the same gym that I did a powerlifting comp at a number of years ago. The owner is well known on the Australian strongman scene and used to run the Strongman at the Arnold Australia pre covid.
Events are
Yoke & Viking Press Medley
Farmers Carry & Sandbag Medley
Deadlift Medley
Implement To Shoulder Medley
Event 1: Yoke & Viking Press
Carry the yoke 10m, return with the yoke for 10m then move onto the Viking Press to complete as many reps as possible within the time limit.
Event 2: Deadlift Diversity
Complete 2 repetitions on each of the 3 implements in the series as many times through as possible within the time limit.
Event 3: The Farmers Carry & Sandbag
Farmers Carry 10m, drop turn then 10m back, Sandbag Carry 20m, Farmers Carry 10m drop turn then 10m back within the time limit
Event 4: The Implement To Shoulder Medley
Attempt to shoulder a series of 4 implements within the designated time limit for this event finale.
Pwn and Ko covered what I would have recommended and more.
The only thing I will do differently for my next comp is to bring more to drink. I didn’t use half of the stuff that I brought, but I would likely pack a similar bag next time just in case.
Oh, I also brought a couple of light bands and a hip circle just to help me get warmed up as they are often part of my warmup with my regular workouts at home.
Of course I do, mate. But I’ve never had the need to bring a seat to comp honestly. They usually have benches or something like that for the competitors. Or I’ll lie half dead on the ground.
It sounds like comps across the ocean are quite gucci compared to what we have stateside! My advice may not be applicable in such cases, so instead all I can do is wish for strength, since luck is for losers
Well at least you guys often seem to know quite a bit in advance what’s coming for you at the comp. As comps here are getting heavier (and me not getting stronger st the same rate), I would need longer to prepare and that’s becoming an issue.
