Damn Good Friday night. “John I feel good. “
I have to say that randomly watching some people in the gym I really wonder why they bother paying for a membership. Given how much this industry has grown you thing the education of people on how to train would be better. Everything from effort, to exercise selection to execution are all just toilet.
Video of tonight’s highlights just in case anyone is super bored
Just today I was rewatching the scene where he jumps from the landing gear.
It’s clearly a 100-200 ft drop…and the way he hits the reeds it was like he just jumped off a 5-ft high shelf. Hahaha. So good.
It is just an awesome film from another time. So many good one liners and Matrix is just indestructible. I loved the trailer for the movie where he is getting his gear and guns on. Somewhere somehow someone’s gonna pay.
Was thinking similarly last couple times I’ve been in. I feel weird the occasional times I do a “bodybuilding day”, but even those usually start off with a heavy compound lift.
The majority of men in my gym are doing curls. That’s it, curls. And some of them do lat pulldowns or pec flyes. Some guys bench, but you can tell that’s the only time they touch a barbell. Almost NOBODY presses overhead.
The women are the best squatters.
Saw a skinny guy on a decline bench today. (I used to be skinny too.) It was like he didn’t know what to do in a gym so he laid there, and did a low-effort set at 95lb every 4 minutes for a few sets. There’s so much I wanted to tell him…
Personally, I don’t really pay attention to other people at the gym, I’m too preoccupied with bettering myself each session. Okay so that is a bit of lie cause then I wouldn’t have nicknames for some gym goers based on the fact they look like someone else. Besides, something is better than nothing.
Strongman Saturday session today was my first time using my new log. Well actually first time ever pressing a log of any sort.
I did 1 press followed by 10 burpees for 10 rounds.
I am pretty happy with how they went. Lots to work on but just happy to get it up today.
Spot in, no one squats, very few deadlift, no one cleans a weight, no one presses above their head unless it is dumbells or a machine. Even bench is becoming rare in favour of hammer strength plate
Loaded machines. The small minority that do lay on a bench press have no idea what a full rep
Looks like.
I used to see more girls squatting and Deadlifting than guys at the old commercial I’d attend.
And no overhead pressing. Well, I did see some people doing it…but I’m talking like maybe 2-3 people IN MY ENTIRE TIME IN THIS GYM!
And I was there nearly two years.
Looking good mate!
My recommendations so far would be:
1 - Do a full deadlift to erect standing position so you can get the log into you lap and closer to your body before the clean.
2 - try to get your elbows all the way through (in front of the handles instead of directly underneath). For that some leaning back would be required.
3 - look up at the log until it is locked out. That’s more of an advanced tip but helps with balance.
Thanks for the tips mate. I will deff work on those things. I noticed the elbows not going through and me looking over the log rather than up too. It didn’t matter too much at this weight but need to fix that now if I plan to go heavier in the future. I am going to play with the log unloaded for a while and work on the technique.
Lol yea the log was pretty cool. It feels really heavy to just move around but strangely didn’t feel too bad to clean and press. Goes to show how much effect technique and levers have how to lift something. Hopefully will feel a lot easier as I get more used to it. Then I can add some weight.
