Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

How old is he?

The number 11 was just the number that someone decided to use for this workout. I don’t think there was a reason. Maybe it was a Spinal Tap influence

I had to write it down

Let them get ugly. I allow some body English or “top rock” as I’ve seen Lee Boyce call it. It allows you to get past your sticking point and do kind of an assisted rep. It also overloads the eccentric of you focus on that part.

All good mate. Did tempi paused squat on Monday and have some strongman stuff planned tomorrow. Decided to just give the hips a rest today. Trying to be smarter in my older age.

This weeks strongman Saturday session was a Medley inspired by @T3hPwnisher.

I used my plastic barrel (41kg or 90lbs) and my sandbag (80kg or 176lbs)

The medley was:

1 barrel clean and press overhead
1 sandbag walk (bear hug carry)
1 barrel walk (over shoulder carry)
5 burpees

I did 5 rounds of this. All done in just under 25 mins.

Lungs were bursting and lower back pump was insane. I thought I felt it twinge a couple of times trying to clean the barrel after the sandbag walk but it didn’t lock up so I just carried on. This was a tough little session.

I don’t have a fancy name for it because my brain is lacking in oxygen and I am not as creative as @T3hPwnisher

Ha! That’s not how it works, mate…

Those bear hug carries are the worst! It just lays right on your lungs. Looks like it did the job.

It definitely did the job. Doing the press first gets the heart pumping before you pick up the sandbag. The sandbag carry is just as you described, lung crushing misery. Then cleaning the barrel to the shoulder is horrible as you try to suck in air after the sandbag walk. The barrel walk is just a slow stumble to the end and then the burpees finish you off.
