Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

I think we spend so much time trying to work out the best way to do something we end up with no way to do it.

I absolutely love this. Kid logic “want to be big, eat like a big person”. So damn true, yet so hard for most people (myself included ) to really grasp

Ok so I woke up this morning (Sunday here) and I feel like I have been hit by something large. Soreness pretty much everywhere but not bad soreness, really really good soreness. Most of you will know what I mean by that.

Forgot to log yesterday but did 100 burpees in the afternoon just to move some blood around/ They were slow and sore but it did feel good to move.

Not much to say other total shite. I think a few of you may have been waiting for this moment. Either I had a bad day or I am close to finding my limit for recoverable work.

Either way I need someone to lend me some testosterone or a giant tampon.

Take an ACTUAL rest day tomorrow mate. Rest day, with an early night. And an extra serving of dinner.

Don’t come in here and swear at me. LOL

I’d be inclined to agree. A good rest might be just what you need.

People think rest and exercise are opposites. But in all honestly they are not. They are “synergistic”. The more of one you do the more of the other you need to do.
If you do not exercise you do not “need” rest. If you rest lots you have lots of capacity to exercise. Of course - “lots” is comparative term. What it lots to me is not lots of other. But right now you are pushing your body into dark places. And recovery will be hard. So make it easier.
My advice:
Drop back on the conditioning. Keep it to an easy 100 burpees - 2 times a week. Enough to get the blood moving. But nothing else.

EDIT - I would also say focus on one thing at a time. I split my focus too often and get sub par results. Go all in on super squats. This means resting enough on the off days to hit the weight and reps.

This is just my view. And irrespective - you’ve done great. Now do better.

There is a post that @T3hPwnisher made in my log about a year ago that I feel like should be posted here. I still think about it from time to time when I think shit is getting difficult (or actually is getting difficult) and I’m beat up.

“If you drown, it means you swam far. I remember Deep Water advanced finally breaking me at the end. It means you gave it your all”

You’re killing it Simo. Its difficult to want to keep going but this is the stuff that changes you. When you look back on this program in six months you’ll realize how much of a badass you are and none of those negative thoughts will be there.

It’s a bird…It’s a plane……It’s SuperSimo!!!

Simo, Super Squats can and will break you. But wanna know what’s the funny part, even with all these failed sessions, you’re going to be mentally tougher, bigger, and stronger in the end.

You’re working hard, eating big, and pushing yourself. That’s all that matters, now stuff your face and keep attacking those squats like the SuperSimo you are.

I agree with what you posted here and if I am honest I already feel like that is what I have done. My burpee sessions are 10 mins of movement, its not like I am doing 30-40 min intense conditioning. I have been training 7 days a week for months leading into this and really figured It should be ok to balance the two. On paper the gym session doesn’t look that much more than what I would be doing, it is 60-70 mins of weights 3 time a week which again I have been doing consistently for a long time. Whilst the SS program has the 20 rep squats in it, I am usually squatting heavier weights that this most weeks.
I am still not sure if having covid a week before starting this is having an effect or maybe this program is just more intense than my normal training.
Anyway I think I just need to get out of my own head, get some extra sleep tonight and some more food today and on to the next one.

Always a good plan.

Have you considered 2 days a week? Or a 6 day split?
D1 - SS
D2 - a touch of cardio
D3 - 100% off.

I did something like this. It helped me.

I did start to think about dropping this to 2 days a week but part of me is saying, there are only 2 more sessions this week and then 2 more week to go. It is not like I will be running this forever and at the end if the day it isn’t about numbers just work. I will keep grinding forward for now.

It’s always about the numbers. Doing more work in a given time period of effort. In this case, more KG’s on the bar in a set of 20.

You’re killing it man. Take it day by day I think for now. Each day a new battle to overcome.

One option might be to do SS once every three days for a few sessions. Chuck in more burpees or sandbag on that first day after each SS. Then the second rest day would be an optional day. Burpees. Walking. Or sleeping. Or whatever. Ya know?

I agree with keeping the 7 day thing going. It’s keeping you in a good head space.

I get this but what I was trying to say was that my normal training is so focused on numbers and percentages etc and usually and a lower RPE, vs this is about doing more work that last session on every exercise, an extra rep, an extra 2.5kg, rest a little less . Its hard to explain maybe but mentally and physically this is very different for me.

It’s so good to get exposed to stuff like that. Periodization of the body AND mind. And from there you can take two methods that are absolute ball busters and actually play them against each other. “Man, 10x10 Squats SUCK. I can’t wait to just do ONE big set”. 5 weeks later “Man F**K THIS 20 rep bullsh*t, I can’t wait to cut the weight down and do some 10x10s”

We can be really stupid while being smart.

I really like this as a concept. Thinking of things this way will actually help cement the why behind this madness.
