Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

OK so a few thoughts of the day.

Yesterday’s squats were not exactly where I wanted them to be. I got 16 reps (4 x 4) with 150, which equals my previous best volume with the weight but the reps were not as good (in my mind) as previously.

I was really happy to be dumbell benching with 45’s (99 lbs) dumbells last night. Back in my 20’s I used to rep with 46kg (101 lbs) gym had weird weights, but I never managed to rep anything higher than that.
I haven’t pressed the 45’s for more than 17 years so felt great to be using them again. Will definitely be looking to progress the reps here and move onto the 47.5’s and eventually 50’s.

I feel very little soreness today in my legs, back or chest which is a great sign that I am recovering well enough to keep progressing.

I slept really well last night. Usually on a Monday night because I train and eat quite late I end up staying up later because I cant get to sleep. Last night I went to bed straight after my nightly bowl of greek yogurt with protein powder mixed in. Looks like going to bed on a full stomach helps with sleep (just ask a lion they would agree).

I am already feeling a little anxious / excited for deadlift this week. No idea why, I just am.

I feel like I am due a bigger burpee workout in the next 2 weeks. I think I will time this for next weeks deload so it doesn’t impact on the gym sessions.

My mother in law (and step dad) is coming to stay for a month in March (no comments @Cyrrex ) and I am already wishing it was April. I am trying not to sound too negative to the misses when she mentions it, but it isn’t easy. Its no that we don’t want to see them, its just having them live in your house for a month is a less than tranquil environment

Just a quick session today. Decided to just do 100 - 1 pump burpees for time. Finished in 8:20 which is a new PB for me. Felt sick for like 30 mins after

Might have spoken to soon, glutes and legs were pretty damn sore last night, Spent a bit of time rolling them out whilst watching the idiot box (TV). Still a little soreness today but it shouldn’t slow me down for todays deadlifts.

First, I feel an apology’s in order. After all these years I didn’t know you were posting over here and doing such good work. I mainly stay in the over 35 as you know, website agoraphobia I guess, and rarely venture out. I’ll rectify the mistake and move out of my shell from now on. Who knows how many of the people I’ve known are lurking over here? Second, is “Melbourne Monster” your podcast?

Thanks Harry, no apology needed mate. I mostly only visit the same logs and don’t often wander unless someone tags me in. I am of course over 35 so maybe my log should be there :joy:

180 x 2. Did a long hold at the top on this set.
Back was jacked up like a mudder facker after these. Good hard damn work. Just get it done.

Good pump but form still sucks.

Very happy with tonight’s session. Big rep PR on deadlift and everything else was just icing on the cake. Quality

Okay, help an old fellow out. You did 190 (418) x 4 (very adequate by the way). What does the RPE 10 mean? Congrats on the PR.
