Have you ever try to front squat using straps? It was a game changer for me.

No, I have seen it but haven’t tried it. I would need to buy straps and for the 6 weeks a year I front squat it probably isn’t necessary. I’ll just deal with the pain.

Body feeling very sore today. Back and abs hurt every time I laugh. Weighed myself and was 89.9kg (198 lbs) this morning. This is the heaviest I have been in probably 16 years.
Found a photo of myself from 7 years ago back when I was a runner and thought some of you might love to see it. This is 2 years before I got back in the gym and I probably weight about 73kg (160 lbs) here.

Just a different person at a different time. At 30
I was 93kg, at 40 is was 73 and now at 47 I am 90. Just shows how easy it is for the body to adapt to what ever type of training you throw at it .

Monday 6th Sep - week 2

Squats
Bar x 10
70 x 5
90 x 3
110 x 2
135 x 4 x 4 sets RPE 7, 7, 7, 7
Good solid reps, rests were a little shorter than normal. Puffing hard at the end.

Bulgarians
62.5 x 8 x 4 sets - yuk!!
Glutes hurting from set 1, lungs like an old steam train. Had the bar a little higher on the traps, starting to get exertion headache by the end. Need to sort out my breathing.

Solid pump after these.

Inc bench 3/40
70kg
Reps - 15, 10, 9
Dizzy after these. Couple of extra reps from last week but I really struggle when the reps get high. Power is good but I just run out of puff!

Bent over row 3/40
75kg
Reps - 17, 13, 10
Burping a little bile after these. More weight next week.

Hammer Curls - some

Abs - some

Finished the session grey faced, clammy and dizzy. I suppose i should call that a good one.

It was a warmer spring day today, trained in the afternoon so it was warmer than usual. Worked up a good sweat.

The bulgians really take a lot out of me and show me that there is loads to be gained from me doing more single leg work (pretty sure someone else told me that in a book I read once !).
In bed last night and suddenly the tear drop muscle (VMO) on my left thigh cramps up. It was the most painful leg cramp I have ever had. I cried out loud and startled the wife and then tried to stand but this made it worse so I ended up falling back on the bed yelping. My wife was laughing her head off watching me writhe around like an idiot. Managed to massage it enough to loosen it and be able to stand and then set off walking around the house in the dark for 5 mins before going back to bed.

Damn! Those Bulgarian numbers are super impressive. I’m in pain just reading about those sets. :slight_smile:

Thanks . I am in pain again today they really are not very nice. Weights a reps will go up every week for the next 4 weeks so it looks like I will be in pain for a while longer !!
