What have I done now !!
It’s this whole High Rep Trap Bar thing. It seems like it is in high fashion just now around T-Nation, and I am trying to hold out against it.
Wait, is 8 reps high rep?
For him it is.
We don’t call him Low Rep Simo for nothing.
That’s not what you were calling him the other day, behind his back
I won’t be doing them again for a long while mate. One more session of this resto block tomorrow and then back to conventional deadlifts and low reps !! Actually the next block will have a little more volume so maybe the reps won’t be so low.
Is this some form of 3 week deload? Or is it more like just a designed phase of a larger cycle?
@bctx1981 The restorative block is not really a deload, it is planned as part of a bigger macro cycle. The idea is that that because the other training I do is very powerlifting movement dominant it doesn’t leave a lot of room for training other movement patterns or weak spots (unless I want my session to be over 2 hours long which my old body couldn’t cope with). The restorative block is a chance to train movement patterns or focus on weak spots or particular muscles that otherwise done get trained. It also gives the body a rest from the big three movements and some time to recover. If you google Mike Tuchscherer Restorative block, you will get a much better explanation than I can give.
Which new/restorative block lifts have you most appreciated?
You must have the grip of a titan. I don’t see myself doing stuff like RDLs without them anymore. I once did sets of RDLs with a 5 secs eccentric and concentric with hook grip and strained a thumb ahahah
Have you seen my forearms ![]()

90 x 5 x 4 sets (198 lbs )
Hard!! Especially on my wrists
Tempo Bench 330
85 x 4 x 5 sets
Seated cable row
77 x 12 x 4 sets
Push up - 15kg vest and handles
12 x 6 sets
Was behind time so did these reps in 3 sets
Arms
Concentration curls - 15kg x 3 sets - 15, 12, 10
Dumbell alt curls 15kg x 10 x 3 sets
Good session, great arm pump again.
But most people don’t train like that, especially low rep Simo
What do you mean low rep, I did lots of sets today with 10 or better reps!!
This is a great question. From a mental perspective all the movements have been great. Taking away the pressure of hitting reps on the big three each week is a great mental break and the sessions are a little more fun.
From a physical perspective I really like the movements that don’t require the bar being in my hands. GHR and leg curls spring to mind. The movements have a great training effect with very good training economy as they are not as fatiguing as barbel movements.
Also the extra back work is great as it makes the shoulders feel good.
This is the universe’s way of telling you to stop front squatting.
Hahahahahaha!
Cross grip, screw the other way!
Resto block is finished and coach is laying out the next volume block, should have it today so I can see what nastyness I am in for.
Leg and glute doms is serious today especially in my adductors.
