What sort of rest times do you take between sets on squats?
It depends a little on how heavy it is. Light warm ups probably only 1-2 mins this includes the time to add weight to the bar. Then as the weight goes up so does the rest. 3-5 mins per set usually.
It’s because you put so much plates it takes you 1-2 min to load the bar… or is that because of your old man back…? ![]()
Killer workouts 90 minutes is some time but not too long i think.
Those deadlifts look a bit weird. Not sure that’s the right form.

Good session to round out the week. Bring on week 3. Body geeking really good and wanting to do more. This is a very good sign. Happy boy.
Lol they felt a bit funny while I was doing them.
I really hate barbell rows, they are like the front squats of rowing. In part because they bug my elbows, but mostly because my center of gravity is off somehow, so anything heavy feels like shit.
I’m not a fan, form goes all over the place above 60kg and feel like a lower back exercise.
Yep, exactly that.
The trick is to pull by driving your elbows and upper arms back, not pulling with you biceps and row the bar a little lower in your body. The bar usually hits me just about on the waist of my shorts.
Been there, did that, still suck. For me anyway. If you can do them, then by all means.
Horses for courses. We can’t all live everything. I find rows pretty easy but pull ups now that is a different story.
So gravity is to blame in both of our cases.
Now that I think of it, gravity is probably the reason I can’t bench 140!
@boyce79 @Cyrrex I used to feel exactly the same way, then I watched Brian Alsruhe explain rows and now they feel 100x better. I’m much weaker than you guys so your mileage may vary, but this has worked to make them a main movement for me.
Damn you. See now I watched that whole video and it got my dumb brain working. I used to do shitloads of Kroc Rows, and while I got good at them, I was never convinced they were any real benefit. But that did give me some ideas. The Dead Rows in particular, because maybe those won’t screw with my elbow too much.
Thanks @dagill2, great video, will be giving Deadlift rows a try.
Neck still a little stiff today, not helped by sore upper back and traps from yesterday’s deadlifts. Did a bunch of yard work and tidying up around the place as well as kicking the footie with the kids. Feeling pretty good and ready for another week. It always feels really good at the start of a new block before all the fatigue sets in.
Thanks Dagill for remembering me about Brians row tuturial.
Oh @simo74 strong deadlift session. Tempo squats are the devil
Thanks Mort, how are you doing?
Tempo squats after deadlifts are indeed the devil but pretty sure they make you stronger.
