I hope your back relaxes over the weekend, Simo! 165 for 5x5 is a nasty deadlift workout.
So the good news is I managed to get out of bed this morning so back isn’t totally rooted. It is very sore and very tight, bending over is a deff no no right now. Looks like I will be hobbling around all day.
Oh no! Well, misery loves company! Heal up fast.
As we day down here “she’ll be right mate”.
Just tight as, probably a light muscle twinge. Little self massage and lots of movement and it will come good.
5x5 heavy deadlift takes a toll Rob. Happy recovery mate.
Back a little better today. Sleeping still wasn’t great and was pretty tight when I woke up. Have done a bunch of stretching and rolling and it seems to be loosening up. I’ll have an Epsom salt bath tonight and hopefully it will feel better tomorrow. I may delay Monday’s training session just to give me another days rest before heavy squats. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.
Tried going for a quarantine walk or doing ur core/glute warm up routine see if it reduces how fried ur back is?
Thanks piggy. I have done a heap of stretching and rolling today as well as dance comps with the kids and a walk. The more I move the better it gets, the. I set down for a bit and it stiffens back up.
It’s nothing really just good old tightness. I’ll delay squats by a day or two and then get back into it. No worries
Yeah my back was fried too after my 240kg set the other week. Took a bit less than a week to be aight. Maybe I wasn’t ready for that intensity or maybe in general it’s not a good idea to work at those percentages.
I think it’s not good to do it often. I have another week in this block and then it’s a few weeks of peaking. Will move something heavier but reps and overall volume comes down. Looking forward to the reduction.
Back feeling a lot better today. Not quite 100% but mostly normal in terms of movement and only minor pain. Decided to push today’s session back a day (or maybe 2) this week. Doubt there will be a Comp in May so I can afford to add a couple of days to make sure I stay healthy.
Glad to hear that. Looks like a quick recovery ![]()
While I strongly disapprove of the disordered rainbow deadlifts, you’re killing it in here man. Looks pretty much like business as normal for you.
Did I spy a bit of rope hanging off the rack in your bench video? That was on my list to get hold of before B and Q shut up shop. Awesome toy to have.
Mate my back didn’t feel like business as normal afterwards. Had to take a couple of extra days off at the start of the week to come good. Yer the gym has heaps of equipment, which doesn’t include ropes but I don’t use them. Neighbor just added a smith machine / pulley station with 100kg of weight on each side. Haven’t used it yet because I am a basic kinda guy but it opens up a lot more assistance exercises for me.

Happy with these. Back was still a little creaky and right knee will not 100%. I couldn’t even move this for 1 rep 18 months ago and tonight I did 20. Got to be happy with that progress.

Very happy tonight. I wasn’t sure how my back would be but it was fine, no problems at all. Really really really happy with those squat numbers.
That’s amazing progress, consistency pays dividends!
Big sesh. You must have developed great work capacity to smash that out.
Funny, coach mentioned my work capacity the other day. These sessions are quite long (1hr 45mins) so for me it doesn’t feel like my capacity is good, it feels like a lot of sitting down. Lol
I think work capacity like aerobic would be doing a lot of shit without resting much. The work capacity he means is the ability to smash out quality set and quality set I think or at least quite a few
