Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

At the comp in October last year I hit 120kg (264 lbs) twice. Both times I got red lighted for technical breaches, slight downward movement which I recovered on the first and went before the press command (still don’t think I did) on the second. I still say this is my 1RM

I actually add the weight is pounds for two reasons. 1 as @markko said, t makes it easier for everyone to understand.
The second is that when I started training my first set of weights which was my dads was in lbs. My dad still asks me what I am lifting in lbs and I like knowing if I have a 300 lbs squat or 400 lbs deadlift.

Oh man, you’re going to crush this when your next meet or test comes along!

I hope so. It’s funny because right now I have been thinking a lot about my squat but not so much deadlift or bench. I’m just doing the numbers coach gives me.

When I was training last night, one of the girls in the gym who competes in strongman had brought her log and axle to the gym with her (our gym doesn’t have that equipment). Two of the guys I usually speak to were training log press with her and then she did some axle OH press while they used the axle for zercher squats. I didn’t have a go on the log myself, mainly because I was sticking to my plan but it really did look like a heap of fun. Maybe next time !!

Same weight?

lmao, no mate they added weight for the squats and then took it off for her press. It wasn’t @T3hPwnisher in a dress !

As an American who lives in Europe, I record in KG because most of the equipment is in kilograms. But to be honest, it is also the more logical system. That said, old habits die hard…so in my head, I auto-convert everything back to pounds.

Also, it is easier to convert kg → lbs than to convert the other way around.

Really true actually; if someone says they pulled 650 I know it’s a big deadlift but I don’t actually realise how strong that is until I convert it and realise it’s basically 300kg.

My theory is anything under 500lb gets logged in kilos. Anything over is in lbs

Friday 24th Jan week 3

Deadlift
Bar x 10
65 x 5
105 x 3
125 x 3
145 x 1
150 x 6 x 5 sets (330 lbs) - RPE 6, 7, 7, 7, 9
These moved really nice, speed was good on all the sets. The boys and girls in the gym were cheering me on, on the last set so I kept pulling and got 10 reps. This was definitely a volume PR and the last set was a big rep PR. Felt good, well actually it felt horrible after !! Lol

Squat 310
Bar x 10
65 x 5
85 x 3
105 x 2
110 x 6 x 3 sets (242 lbs) - RPE 9, 9, 10
These were terrible, spent the whole rest time between sets trying not to throw up. ! Got all the reps tonight even if the pauses were very short !!

Bench
Bar x 10
65 x 5
85 x 3
95 x 6 x 3 sets (209 lbs) - RPE 8, 8, 9
Moved ok. Felt tired tonight though !!

Db row
32.5 x 10 x 5 sets - 15 secs rest between sets

Hard hard session tonight. Was feeling pretty dizzy and shaky by the end. Happy to finish another block and to finish it really strong

I want to go to a gym where people cheer me on for stuff, that sounds fun. Or maybe I just need to find stuff that is more worth cheering.

And that looks like a pretty tough Friday, holy jeebus.

It was a tough session but it was a lot of fun. Having a few of the guys cheer you on definitely helps with a few more reps. We are getting a good little crew at the gym who all train hard and consistently, I am the old boy of the lot so have to work hard to keep up with the others :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Interesting, I have thought about trying to integrate a bit with some of the younglings at my local place, but always feel a bit out of place as the old crusty guy. I am guessing by the 74 in your name that we are more or less the same age.

That’s when you know it was a good session.
