Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Thanks @MarkKO, given this is a novice comp so not with a fed, I don’t think the judging will be too harsh. But I expect it to still be to the rules. I’ll plan on a good solid pause and anything less is a bonus.

Exactly. That way you win either way. I see far too many people have calls go against them again and again because they won’t adapt to judging.

Cold really coming out now. Feel like I’ve been run over. Nose is streaming and lungs hurt from all the coughing. Hoping I can sweat it out tonight. #fuckoffcold !!

Solid training so far, you feel a bit nervous for your meet?

Thanks Rob. Yes starting to get a little nervous but also excited. It is only a novice meet so the stakes aren’t really high. But that doesn’t mean that I still don’t want to do well. What ever I do, it will be a learning experience which was the point of entering. If I like it (which I think I will) then I will look to enter a proper comp best time.

Maybe DOMS maybe the cold,
Probably both. But everything hurts today. Fk I hate being sick :face_with_thermometer:

Lots of warm tea and a big girly bath or two, clear the cold right up.

Hope you feel better soon man.

Thanks man. I am flooding the body with food and hydralite today. Hot tea and steamy bath sounds good. Will deff soak in the tub tonight with some radox.

This would be my biggest recommendation. Commands did not seem to affect my squat and deadlift when it came to weight lifted (just make sure you don’t jump their calls), but bench is where it actually makes a big difference. A lot of people at my competition only made their first attempts because the “press” call was slow (so I’m told, I’m not very experienced with only 2 meets under my belt). Not training a long enough pause was one of my biggest mistakes leading up to the meet.

Not trying to worry you, as your training has been going amazing and you’re clearly benefiting from having this competition coming up. PR’s are falling! Keep it up Simo, you’ll do great.

It seems like every time I’m about to get sick a hard workout finishes off my immune system :joy:. Could be coincidence, but I think you’re making the right call!

I don’t think the workout had that much of an effect. I was already sick going in and was actually thinking it might impact my performance more than it did.

In our house it is my eldest daughter that is the problem. She always gets the cold first but seems to have an amazing immune system. she sneezes a couple of times and blows her nose a bit for 1 day and the next day she is 100% fine. The problem is that everyone else in the house then gets her germs and our immune systems are not as efficient as hers. It takes the rest of us a week to recover !!!

Don’t be so sure. First novice comp I did the judging was pretty harsh, red flagged for the slightest hitch on dead’s, and long bench calls.

Which, TBH, I think is how it should be because it sets up the novice lifter to deal well with judging. Make the first comp tough on the calls, and that’s what you’ll expect every time.
