Na I figure while I can still smash a session in the gym and have energy to play with the kids and have time for the wife I am ok. I’m a little obsessive to start worrying about that stuff as well.
I’m besides you all the way, I can lift a weight, run a bit, play around, I’m all good, I won’t build any muscles of significance, but I’m ok with it.

If I remember correctly from when he used to be a regular poster here, he is or was supplemented. I may be remembering incorrectly.
No idea and don’t really care too much. Each to their own.
I’ve never understood the hang up people have honestly. The options there for all of us, if we choose to use it. It seems a pretty small piece of the puzzle that gets far more attention than it deserves.
Agree, it’s just a choice like any other. I think a lot of people like to use the excuse of not taking them as to why they don’t make progress or aren’t strong or don’t have any muscle. For most people good old hard work and consistency in training and eating is the real problem.
I agree. People expect too many results from too little put in.
The only problem with it is in terms of mental health. If I’m using someone else as a pacer for my progress and they’re on the sauce then I’m going to fail over and over. After I fail, I’m going to beat myself up about it and start to have some negative thoughts flying around. That’s not good.
If I could add 15 lbs of muscle by adding some supps, then I’d like to think my strength would skyrocket as a result. I’m not talking about anything impressive or record breaking, but much better than where I’m at now - like repping 3 plates on bench and 4 plates on squat… like a lot of gym bros ![]()
Probably true. But this is also true if they’re younger than you, have better genetics than you, a more stress free life than you, sleep better than you, have a more conducive background than you or simply present themselves in a way that makes them appear more advanced than they are.
The only answer is to not use other people as yardsticks in a serious way. That doesn’t mean completely remove the competitive mindset, but just bear in mind that lifting and physique is the ultimate in “your mileage may vary” activities. Focus on the things you can affect.
Finally starting to feel a little beat up. Hips are tight and sore and lower back not very happy today. Felt a minor twinge in it last night but felt fine after. It’s a little sore this morning but nothing feels out of line. No training tonight so will do some rehab work and hopefully will feel good for deadlifts on Friday.
So coach updated the program and sent through the next 6 weeks leading into the comp. Given how well the last block went we (he) have decided to repeat the last 3 weeks at slightly higher loads and then the last 3 weeks will add in some heavy singles and volume in the 3 rep range, but overall volume will start to decrease (intensity wont). That gives me 2 weeks of singles and lower rep work and then the last week is the meet. Pretty happy with how this is all going and starting to look forward to the meet now.
Coach did say ideally we would have a couple more weeks but we cant cant change it, he is already talking about running a similar block after the meet but for a little longer and seeing where it takes me. Starting to feel like there is some good strength gains to come for the remainder of this year
Is it weird that I’m also kinda excited to see how you go in the meet?
It all sounds like you’ll smash it Simo ![]()
No not weird at all, I really appreciate the support. I was super excited when @MarkKO competed recently and when @littlesleeper did too. I think when you follow along with someones training its like being a virtual training partner, so its kinda normal to feel some anticipation for them when they are competing.
This is probably my favourite part of T-nation, when someone you’ve been following steps on stage/platform/whatever and sees the hard work pay off. I set reminders for myself to check when I expect the results to appear.
EDIT: Or exactly what @simo74 said above.
My back is still a little dodgy today. Will watch it carefully deadlifting tonight and will shut it down or adjust if its not right.
