Mines kind of a mystery. I need to upload a video and let the Tnation collective weight in. Up until recently I was stuck at 405. I could rep 405 5 on a not so good day and almost 10 on a good day. Couldn’t break 415 off the floor at all. I actually just pulled 455 I think, I’d have to look at my training journal but I’m pretty sure it was 455 so I’ve done something right. But I had the problem mentioned above for a while. I haven’t deadlifted heavy since then and am focusing on strengthening the stuff needed to pull big weight.
High reps and 1RMs aren’t even in the same ballpark. Doubles and triples are a better indicator.
My PR was 495 going into hip surgery but the first time I ever pulled 405 for three was during my comeback. A few weeks later I pulled 500 with somewhat ease and 545 with the deadlift bar.
I think some people sell themselves short on max pulls. Breaking the floor always takes longer for me. I can see how some might abandon the lift right before they get the bar to move.
Absolutely. Even fives aren’t reliable.
Agree, hopefully the next few weeks of the peak will have some lower reps.
It will.
26th August - week 4 - deload
Squat
Bar x 10
65 x 5
95 x 3
115 x 3

Quads and hips felt a little tight and sore. Maybe sat down too long at work or probably just fatigue.

90 x 7 x 3 sets (198 lbs)
RPE 9, 9, 10 nice pause on last rep but no more left

Horrible
Db bench
35 x 8 x 3 sets
Ss Db Row
35 x 10 x 3 sets
Kept rests under 1 minute.
Good deload session. Serious chest and arm pump.
O Boy that was some heavy ass deload. Simo. I like to hit one heavy single at about 85 % for deload. That looks like a workout for me. Time to up my game.
LOL it was kinda hard for a deload. The last 2 blocks coach has kept the deloads pretty heavy but the total volume (weight x reps) moved over the session is significantly lower. Last nights session was 61% the volume of the previous week. The squats last night were 2.5kg heavier thab last week but there was only 3 sets of 5 reps compared to 5 sets of 5 reps last week.
When I’m doing the session it feels like hard work but the following day I feel way fresher that with a full session.
Only 7 weeks to go including this week, so I’ll just stick to the program and see how the peak goes. What I learn from this one I can adjust and apply next time.
Coach has started work on the next part of this peaking program. From our previous discussions i am guessing the weights will go up and reps come down in the 2-4 range with some heavy singles thrown in. Getting pretty excited to see what he gives me. I’ll post up some details alter in the week.
Anything else would be stupid.
My program ends my building phase with a 5RM test.
Then the peak starts out with 4’s and about mid way there’s doubles and singles thrown in it.
Assistance is very little and by the last couple of weeks no assistance at all.
Looking forward to see your coach approach to the peak.
You and me both. The good thing about this being my first comp and a novice comp (so doesn’t really count lol) is that I am just learning what a peak is like and whatever numbers i hit will still be a comp PB.
Yeah man, but you’ve come quite a fair bit on the way the last year and a bit.
I remember at a point we were quite close in numbers, not anymore.
I think you would sunrise yourself if you changed back to some consistent blocks of pure strength training and made that a focus. Also remember i’m about 7-8kg heavier that you right now too.
I’ve just started this powerbuilding routine, SBD 4 times a week first couple of weeks is 8, 7, 6 reps and from then on it’s 5 or less until december.
Then we’ll see what happens. That is my focus right now, I’ve ditched the dream about adding muscles, now I’m looking for strength and athleticism.
I think there comes a time where we all realise that bulging muscles are a dream (unless we want to supplement). So focusing on strength and being able to move is a good idea.
Add in a bulging waistline and I’m there.
???..
Brian alsruhe
Are you quoting him because he has bulging muscles or he has supplements !!
Bulging muscles lol.
