Shut Up 'n Lift! (Log)

The ‘semi’ pin press was ‘sort of kinda like a’ pin press. Had to do it in the squat rack, so the height wasnt adjustable, and the bench was a little high, so the bar really sat about 1" above my chest (too low). Just the opposite in the Smith-- the safety bracket sat a bit too high, so it approximated a pin press, just a high one.

Don’t mind me. I’m just improvising at this place that passes for a ‘gym’.[/quote]

Might I suggest building up the bench with some plates under it to use in the SM? And then using some plates to put your feet on? Just don’t use aerobics steps. I hear that can be dangerous.

Awesome about the cage! Did you get the keg attachment?

Damn! When I bought my cage, they didn’t even mention a keg option. If I had beer on tap, I’d lift every day!

I’m getting it second hand from a friend up north. I don’t think it has a keg attachment but I have a box near by for our first game of squats and shots.

I use it to hike up my squat suit the last few inches if there’s noone around to help. I didn’t know anyone that actually knew how to lift used it :stuck_out_tongue:

All I’m saying is you gotta use what ya got. Up until a couple months ago, the Smith Machine for me was used solely for leaning on to stretch and doing pullups on…

FMG.

Pull ups? Isn’t that what a pull up bar is for?

I’m also a big fan of Mr. Smith for seating my suit.

I use the smith machine for GHR’s

My mistake. I’m such a tool. I thought the roman chair was for that. In fact, there is an entire thread on roman chair orgasms in Muscle Sorority somewhere. I have super ripped abs.

Okay I use it for dips as well. Really, those crazy Romans. I’m telling you. There’s an entire thread. That’s my next purchase for the home gym.

Squats
Deload: Cycle 1, Week 4

w/u: bar x 10, 135x5

Squats:
165x3
195x3
235x3

*Box Squats (30s clusters):
135x3,3,3,3
225x3,3,3,3
245x3,3

Bottom Paused Squat:
135x25

**BB Shrugs:
135x15
225x15
315x12
365x8

Foam roll everything

  • Did box squats on the bench, so not quite parallel, but good practice for form.
QUESTION: Should I go very wide stance for these to really stress glutes/hips and assist deadlift, or should I keep my normal squat stance width? I didn’t vid these but I wish I did. I don’t think I had any forward momentum getting up, but I really couldn’t figure out the most effective stance. Either way, I really felt the hips/ass fire on these, especially the wider stance.
** Had no energy on shoulder or back day, so threw them in here.

Great work! I can’t help but laugh at classifying BB Shrugs at 365# as deloading…

Thanks LS-- well, 8 reps was all I could do before I started ‘power shrugging’, so I stopped there

That’s TWO servings of fruit-- the Gatorade was “Lemon/Lime”…

M-n-M: If you look back in the early pages of the log, I used to post food everyday in detail, but it’s pretty tedious, so I just randomly post food now when I think of it or if I can remember what I ate.

I don’t post anything that doesn’t contribute significant calories, so yeah, there’s veggies in there (had some broccoli, etc.). Corn is a grain-- don’t the tortilla chips count as a vegetable?
