I can’t believe most of your comments. I mean this short documentary is to illustrate the "idiocy’ of the culture, how well marketing has brainwashed the youth, how little everyone is taught on proper nutrition, and how despite 60+ years of “physical education” in our schools the youth still know absolutely shit about training and exercise, let alone for reasons of size and strength.
The funniest thing is when you were 16 and first picked up a weight you probably ALL sounded like these naive young men. We ALL did. Just because we know more now should simply tell you that next time you see one of these one-egg-white wonders in a gym doing something you think they could do better …MAN UP…and teach them.
You learned somewhere down the line something better, teach it. Don’t be a critic.
How do you propose we teach the folks in the video?
You can’t teach them! You think these kids are actually going to listen to what the average bodybuilder or fitness guru has to say about nutrition and everything that has to do with building a better body? I have tried to approach kids like this and most of them just shrug and say “whatever man”. They pretty much think they know it all already. These kids are going to have to learn on there own through trial and error like most of us did. Yes, some will listen and learn much faster than others, but a majority of these kids think of themselves as invincible. Once they realize that working out 3hrs everyday doing bench and curls and spending hundreds of dollars on supplements doesn’t work, maybe then will they ask for help or guidance. I went through at least 10 boxes of Cybergenics and countless hrs in the gym before it hit me that most of these people that were trying to give me advice knew what they were talking about. You can only teach someone that wants to be taught, and most of these kids do not want to be taught.
I agree with what you’re saying. But mostly I was being a dick, because AllTraps said we shouldn’t criticize these people, we should help them. Well, these people are in a video so A) I don’t think they can hear our criticism, and B) I’m not going to track them down for an educational talk about not being an idiot.
K, maybe I came on a little harsh. And I agree that most high school youth wouldn’t take good advice if it slapped them upside the head but they’ll worship the 195lb juice monkey down the block.
Aside from the obvious twits, I simply and honestly feel that in lack of proper education (unless you were so damn lucky as to have an actual strength coach for a gym teacher) in regards to weightlifting, nutrition and healthy self-image we could all do our part to help these young men. When you see one in a squat rack doing the hyperextenteded bicep curl with a 30lb bar, maybe it wouldn’t be so hard to go over and school him. He may not take kindly to it, but he’ll change, and quickly, even if only to save himself the embarassment next time.
There…nice enough way of saying it?[/quote]
I’m definitely in support of helping people out, I’m grateful for all the bigger guys who’ve given me advice.
That being said, I was making a joke in that we can’t give advice to the kids in the video, because they’re in a video. But, I do think we should help people if they ask for it. Or are doing something stupid in the gym that could hurt them.
