Not a concern. The books and the series have similar storylines between book/season 1, but for book/season 2 they’re completely different. I’ve not read book 3 and season 3 hasn’t yet been written, so no comment.
It starts airing on 28th but you can already find the first episode on warez networks. And a great episode it was. Without spoiling anything, it’s a good thing they didn’t get into the whole “10 plot twists per episode” -thing (atleast yet). We also get to see Dexter construct his “altar”.
Saw S03E01. It definitely wasn’t as good a opener as the previous seasons. He might be in a little trouble, but is it really that big of a deal compared to last season? I don’t want to give anything away, but nothing in the episode was really that big of a deal. I think Rita getting murdered might be pretty interesting. She is what stabilizes Dexter right now. If she was out of the picture, he would probably go to the dark side.
Did anybody else watch the real season opener this past weekend? It’s going to be very interesting to see how Dexter deals with his brand new set of problems. Speaking of that…
Spoiler
I’m a little bummed they went with the pregnancy thing with Rita. It just seems like a cheap way to add more drama. But who knows, maybe she’ll miscarry or something.

I did. I liked it. I’m actually very interested to see how Dexter reacts to the thought of being a father. He has been getting a great deal more ‘human’ lately. I don’t really see it as cheap, it seems like a natural progression to the relationship. Cheap would be: ‘Harry’s not really dead!’.
As far as the danger being a little wanting this time round, I never understood why people feel the need for their television to get bigger and more dire every season. I like spending time with the characters; who cares if Dex decides to off the President?
I used “cheap” because adding a child seems to be a TV series’ way of giving up on new ideas for the characters. Of course, when I think about past examples, I can only come up with shows that were purely sitcoms. Guess I’m just nitpicking and should just enjoy the ride.
On a more positive note the new oddball friendship with Jimmy Smits should be very interesting.

I don’t think there’s a chance that baby will live to it’s first birthday.
I think Dexter is going to appear to get more and more human and then something is going to happen that sets him off and sets the show into a much darker cast then it has been getting lately.
Showtime’s website gives you a preview of the next episode, which shows a moment where they talk about the kid. There’s also an interview with one of the directors(i think) who explains where the show is headed.
I like the way the series is evolving. And this Prado case may be just an intro thing, i.e something that’s gonna get solved in the next two episodes, but open the way for something else, which will make that Miguel Prado guy stay in their dept.

Interesting thought. I think something has to happen to her at some point too- she’s just too sweet and goody two shoes, it’s like you keep expecting her to be a victim.
I agree that he’ll end up really lashing out and giving in to the darker side at some point. I wonder if he’ll ever buck the rules.
Season three has been quite good so far. Dex’s relationship with Miguel is very interesting, especially after the latest episode.
I am, however, still confused about Dexter’s growing humanness. We were always told that he is unable to have emotions, and I wonder how much with the kids, Rita, and what else is real, and how much is faked. He does mention faking emotion and studying love before proposing to Rita, but it’s not very clear what and how much he actually feels at this point. Any thoughts?

I think they’re playing up the emotional stuff so then BAM! Something crazy happens to Rita and/or the family and makes him go over the edge, just as he was starting to think he was getting emotions and stuff. They’re making us wonder if he’s got a soft side now. They’ll make us wonder if he’s got a batshit psycho side next.
Does the next episode air tomorrow and is it episode 6 or 7? I’m getting 5 right now and want to know if that puts me up to date.
I must say I don’t care for the whole making Dexter have feelings angle. I really hate the baby thing too. It feels like they’re softening him up too much which was not what made this a good show.
