Showtime's Dexter

Wow, so, I’m the first to comment on the ending?

Well, I won’t put in any spoilers because some might not have seen it, yet…but…

damn.

Any predictions for the next season? They sure as hell are setting up a whole mess of new plot lines (or complications to existing narratives)

OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG DEXTER FINALE! HOW THE HELL I’M GONNA WAI TILL NEXT SEASON? SO MANY DOUBTS!

HOLY FUCK!

I was practically hyperventilating from excitement after that! WOW! Just WOW!!

X2

I punched the couch, and was like “WHAT?!?! NOOOOOOOOOO! I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER!!”

damn son

Lets be honest.

99.5% of the season was lukewarm while the last 10 seconds were sizzling hot.

I also think it’s pretty obvious what we’ll see.

He’ll play the “this guy kidnapped my kid” angle and somehow tie it back to what happened to him at birth.

He won’t reveal to Debra that he moonlights as a serial killer. It would destroy the show.

except that he vanished from a crime scene, and elaborated that huge methodical killing place as always, he will have some damn explaining to do.

Deb has already shown she?s willing to take a pass on the law, as she did with Deputy Chief Tom Matthews after learning of his involvement with a dead call girl- so, legally speaking, Dexter may not have much to worry about. However, Deb?s rocky personal life has been repeatedly shaken to its core, so that this shock may be too much for her embattled psyche to withstand.

But then again, thinking back hadn’t Dexter and Debra agree to do one last sweep on the church? bad move Dex.

Your reply doesn’t negate anything I wrote.

He will chalk it up to getting revenge for kidnapping his kid and Debra will buy it.

He will have explaining to do, but revealing his dark passenger, his constant desire to kill will not be revealed to Debra. It wouldn’t work.

Exactly. The psychologist highlighting her broken trust in general, anchoring faith on Dexter and the weird love twist are exactly what I expected to lead in to her discovery.

Next season is going to be pretty fucked up though. Incestuous desire, betrayal, lieutenant level leverage… it will be intense if done right. I don’t think she is stupid though. Even if she can’t prove he is the “Bay Harbor Butcher” she will connect the dots in her head. I think she knew insantly. Possibly they will tie in a flashback to the Ice Truck close call but she’ll put it all together one way or another. Maybe she’ll blackmail him in to fucking.

We are going to have a spurned female aspect in the next season’s tone. Get ready for crazy and cat claws. Her last bastion of trust just let her down in a huge way, especially when she sees how Dexter has been undermining her investigations. He’s not just a killer to her.

And the hand… I still think Masuka will find out too, through the intern somehow.

I, too, am dissapointed Dexter chose the church given the circumstance. The careful, neat, Dexter that is the main character did not exist this season.

I realize it’s part of his metamorphosis to human understanding as he overrides his fathers “training” and his character grows but hopefully the writing is smoother next season.

I think she just told him that she wanted him to do a final sweep, which is why he thought he’d have been alone

Loved it! Deb is freaking out…I bet she says she will keep her mouth closed if Dexter sleeps with her! They completely didn’t mention the hand in the box! its still sitting on top of the fridge in Dexters appartment! where was the babysitter after the play? did she attend the play?

Where the hell do you people come from that this is the first thought you have about the situation?

The only problem I had with the finale was why did Deb go to the church at night ALL BY HERSELF!? She must have known that was a dangerous move and it would have been easy to get backup.

Am I the only one who thinks the new love interest in Dexter must be awkward on set? Since the actors who play Deb and Dexter were married but divorced not long before the season.

The problem with this cliffhanger is that it was so contrived and moronic that it ended up making me angry rather than excited.

Between Dexter’s transformation from calculating machine operating several steps ahead of everyone else in the first few seasons to, “Whelp, looks like I’ma use this here crime scene for a kill room, even though the cops haven’t caught the guy yet and the case is still open and highly active”, there would have been numerous BETTER (albeit it less dramatic) ways for Deb to catch on to his secret pastime.

The incest plot line was really shoved down our throats with absolutely NO foreplay from the previous seasons… but at least now we know what the therapist was doing wasting screen time with her brilliant “you wouldn’t expect a chair to become a table” bombshells.

And BTW, Deb is just disgusting. Even if she didn’t have the frame of a 10-year old boy and a busted up face, the fact that she spent an entire season with a 60+ year old man’s balls in her mouth kills whatever inkling of eroticism the writers could have possibly given her character to run with in later seasons.

The cop thinking nothing was really amiss by a 5-year old boy in a flamboyant costume running around on the rooftop of a building suspected of being a target for the DDK’s final spectacle was just silly. Almost as bad as not pairing up the cops for such a high-priority stakeout.

This show has jumped the shark. You know it, I know it, the writers sure as fuck know it… which is why they are turning it into a bloodier, slightly more macabre As the World Turns. They’ve got nothing to lose by throwing a bunch of shit against the wall and seeing what sticks.

My knee jerk reaction to this season is that it blew. I actually preferred last season to this one.

I mean, if this Deb/therapist exchange isn’t textbook “mailing it in” then I just don’t know what is.

The whole thing sucked, though.

She knew dexter was there.

The crime scene was supposed to be safe (in Dexter’s mind). He was told to go there alone after the play and check it out which he didn’t do because he was after Travis on the rooftop. It wasn’t until hours later when he was in the Church. Why would Deb randomly come to the church? I think she went over to Dexter’s appartment and talked to the babysitter, where she told Deb that he was finishing up at a crime scene (at the Church). The only reason why Deb was looking for Dext was because she wanted to tell him how she felt (which she just decided to do after speaking with the therapist again). The Church was always the place where Dexter wanted to do the deed..not the safest obviously but it was the best suited place in his eyes.

Ya, I agree 50/50 with the kid on the rooftop. He wasn’t expecting a kid to be up there, clearly anyone could come up onto the rooftop as the elevator went directly up LOL (what a weird thing to have at a hotel/whatever it was). Also, Deb told all officers that they were suspecting Travis and him alone…so if I saw a kid (and I was the cop) on the rooftop I would not instantly think ‘Oh, this must be Travis and his son’. I’d be like ‘fuck, gotta get this kid outta here because its clearly not safe’. The only reason why the cops weren’t doubled up was that they didn’t have the manpower to double up all the officers as 1/2 of the tallest buildings in miami would be unoccupied by police.

I agree with this season ‘blowing’. Definitely not as good as the Trinity season (which I think is one of the top 2 seasons of Dexter so far).
