I was thinking he wasn’t thrilled about Buttons at first either, but it was a happy ending. Y’all gave her a wonderful life and Frederick would be just a blessed to have y’all.

Fredrick will break into the humidor and drink all the beer while you’re at work.

My kind of doggy!

Does Germs like to fetch too?

Intermittently… also runs across my face at 3 am, terrorizes the other cats, dart into forbidden rooms… he’s a rascal

Ah, yes. Sounds like a normal healthy tabby cat.

Mine protect me from all things unseen, especially in the wee hours.

Tabby likes to play fetch at around 11:00 pm, like clockwork. Those silver elastic things from the bakery are her favorite cuz they have some spring to them.

He’s on thin ice… might lock him in the dryer overnight

Noooooo! He just needs a cool little chill spot of his own.

Ya… the dryer. Little rat

You guys, I stopped in at the Petco yesterday to thank the grooming team for taking such good care of Buttons, whose nails grew quickly and who acted so butthurt when we tried to do it the first couple of times that we couldn’t go through with it. So Buttons went to Petco every 4-6 weeks.

Anyway, I walk in and Brady is there. Brady is a big sucker, maybe late 20’s, who when he first got there carried Buttons from place to place (he explained to us when we returned to pick her up) because her legs were shaking and he didn’t want her to fall (she was probably 60 lbs at the time). But it was all an act (low-key butthurt) because she’d probably hiked 5 miles the day before.

So he says this big, happy “hey!” and starts reaching for the computer to schedule her and I said “no, I don’t need to schedule…I came to say…” And his face crumples up and he gets teary and so I started crying and then he was full-on crying. Oy! So I managed to get out that they were very kind to her and then he comes through the little gate to hug, which is really not my thing, but okay. MAN. It was hard to pull it together after.

I had to go grocery shopping afterwards and felt lucky I didn’t see anyone I know (usually I do) because if I had I’d have told them about Brady and started crying again.

Then I got home and husband and I were in a chilly thing - because he’s sick of hearing about dogs, but I’m READY - but I went ahead and told him and HE started crying. And then I talked about dogs more but he didn’t get mad this time.

Here’s Mikey, age 4. I sort of love him. A lot. But he’s in Texas, and I’d have to commit to him, then he’d arrive on the 26th. Coincidentally my birthday is 2 days later. On the down side, he’s larger than husband seems to want. And also a dog, which husband doesn’t seem to want. But I just know he’d be saying “Oh Mikey, I love you!” on the second day, just like he did with Buttons. I think Mikey would be a real asset to this thread:

Mikey is a great dog. Definitely the stuff heros are made of.

I still remember your characterization of golden retrievers as “the doggiest of dogs.” . I believe Mikey there might be very close to the top of that scale too.

Definitely the type to rescue a baby rabbit by bringing it into the kitchen.

And I would keep the baby rabbit and give Mikey a treat!

Did I ever tell that husband dug a trap out of the basement when Buttons was still able to run/chase a bit, and trapped a squirrel for her? But it was a big dud of an adventure because she got distracted as he was releasing it and it just ran away without her.

Not that I recall. Sounds kinda hilarious though. One of those times when you point at something and dog looks at finger?

Puppy Wuppy was a bona-fide critter getter. She loved chasing chipmunks, but to my knowledge, never actually got one. She did return to the same spot looking for one she chased into its hole though, which was unexpected because she remembered it from fall all the way to late spring.

Husband isn’t ready. I’ve backed off.

Mikey was adopted, and that took the wind out of my sails.

:sob: I understand.

Now that it’s been a couple of months since I lost Ash, I’m starting to get the itch to adopt another older dog. I don’t think I’m quite there yet, but Miles makes the itch worse.

I feel like I’ve got bottled up love. Like, why are we waiting? I know we’ll love whatever lunatic we get. Why not get started loving them and laughing over their funky personality, whatever it turns out to be?

Is it that he just doesn’t like having a dog, or he’s not over the loss?
