Shoulder Press Before Bench

I saw how you recommended shoulder pressing before benching, especially when going heavy on the bench. I tried it today, and it felt great! I have started using the false-grip on both movements, and I came 1 rep from a PR in the bench (I was purposefully leaving 1 rep in the tank too).

Can you detail your reasoning for this training idea? Does it. have to do with activation? I figured the fatigue might impact performance on my bench. I was wrong.

And what modifications would you use if you have one speed bench day (60%) and one heavy day (90%)?

After band pull-aparts, I did 3 light ramp sets on the standing military press. I did 8 reps, 6 reps, and a final set of 5 reps at 70%, adding small amounts of weight each ramp.
