Shooter Movie

hahahaha, I’d like Dennis Quaid since Elliot is to old. Tom Berringer would be great if he was just a little younger and never did Sniper.

Willis is timeless.

I think the entire series is excellent, and I sincerely hope the movie lives up to the expectations I’m sure all of Stephen Hunter’s fans have for it.

Just for the record, I think Bob Lee is great, but Earl is one of the best characters ever written for T-Men to aspire towards.

My choice for the Bob Lee character (who, I agree, should have been older): Ed Harris. You cannot watch him in “The Rock” and not be impressed with his portrayal. (Regardless of what you may think of the movie overall.)

He was already a sniper.

True, but I think that movie gets forgotten by most. I like Tom Beringer, but him being in Sniper and the sequels has me thinking no.

I think Wahlberg looks young, but if they do the book justice, I’ll be happy enough.

OMG that was funny for some reason.

Ah…you are correct, PGA. I had forgotten his role in Enemy at the Gates. My mistake…don’t know how I forgot that one.

That being said, I guess you feel that it would be too much of a leap for audiences to accept him in this role?

Actually, never mind. That’s really not the point, since Mark Wahlberg was cast. The real question is, do you think he will do the role justice?

I like Mark. He’s been pretty good in every role he’s done. He was fantastic in Four Brothers and obviously Boogie Nights. He can play that hard edge bad ass quite easily (The Departed). So I think he’s a fine fit. The only issue is can he come off convincingly as a mountain cowboy. But I don’t doubt that he can.

I wish I knew how to quit you.

oh wait wrong movie.

Well, Lord knows I hope so. While I have been eagerly awaiting a Stephen Hunter book finally being made into film, I shudder to think of what Hollywood did to the actual story. Books so rarely translate well into film, and it’s generally not the fault of the actors. Bad screenplays are the bane of most good authors’ existence.

Also, just for the record, I do like Wahlberg. I was just surprised to see him cast in the role.

About the only other film I’m looking forward to right this second is “300”.

Sam Elliot might be a little to old, but someone along those lines. I’m thinking of a lean muscled 48 year old cowboy type. [/quote]

Clint Eastwood? I do like Sam Elliot also. Both of these actors could capture the essence of Bob Lee Swagger.

Anyone who hasn’t read the book, do so. It is a great read. I hope that they do a movie on “Dirty White Boys.” That is another movie that would rock.

Yes, I prefer Earl. I like story about him taking over the prison.

Clint is a little too old. Bob is a Viet Nam vet. He would be between 55-65 today.

I would actually put the first two Earl stories (Hot Springs and Pale Horse Coming) among my favorite reads of all time. I think Earl is such a heroic figure, and very reminiscent of a time long past when men acted like men. (Even though he is flawed, but hey, who isn’t?)
I found the third Earl novel, Havana, very disappointing though.

So true. I think I read all of Hunters books up to and including Havana. Dirty White Boys was a great novel. I loved how the third in the series tied the first two together and how the fifth pulled the 1,2,4,and 5 together.

The Earl Swagger stuff was also great(Bob Lee’s dad).

But the first book, Point of Impact was set app. 1992. That would put Bob Lee around 45. Smart, but starting to get the middle age stuff working for him.

Good Point, I don’t know why novel-based movies have to be updated.

Why couldn’t they set the movie in the early 90’s.

I have this bad feeling they are going to FUBAR the ending of the story.

I’m also concerned about it, but I figure that a decent movie based on the character is all I can expect.

Ok, I don’t know how I missed these books. Living under a rock I guess. Got and read Point of Impact and ordered Black Light and Time to Hunt. Kick Ass.

I think Wahlberg could pull it off in the updated movie version. As an actor with a “bad boy” background he may able to channel the “natural aggressiveness of the U.S. Marine” for the part without going overboard. Bob Lee is quite laid back (on the surface)confident and competent. I can see Wahlberg in the role. It seems that we are seeing a response to the Bourne adaptations and can expect more of Bob Lee if this one does alright in theaters.
