iTunes Movie Trailers

Did I actually scoop Patricia on this bit of movie news?!

BTW, there's a Two Towers trailer at this apple/quicktime site as well for you fantasy nerds. ;-)

Just like to add that this is a teaser, meaning there’s not much to it, no Arnie or anything. But that music… Damn, can’t believe we have wait a year for this one to come out!

Oh yeah, there’s a Hulk and Star Trek Nemesis teaser on that site as well. You’ll need Quicktime 5 which you can get there for free.

Wow…can’t wait! Gotta another question for you guys that’s related to this topic:

Where are the younger “action” heroes? I just don’t see any on the horizon. Arnold, Sylvester Stallone and Harrison Ford are getting up there (as I understand it, Harrison was ALMOST not picked for the next installment of “Raiders” but Spielberg intervened). Also…I heard that Arnold was NOT going to be the main character in “T-3”.

Do you see any young guys in the horizon?

TEK: you silly man. Of course not. That T3 trailer has been out for some time, as well as a X-men 2 teaser. All both of them are CG of the title logos. NOW, I’ve already seen some photos of T3. Just alot of Aw-Nold standing among “blow’d” up cars and such. But TEK mucho appreciato for posting this here!

That Star Trek10: Nemesis looks awesome. It's been available for viewing for some weeks now, also. Go to www.startrek.com - and man, I think this is the Star Trek flick we've all been waiting for.

Mufasa: good question (as usual). Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolves) has a very decent chance of being the "next big" action honcho. Of course, Vin Diesel as well. A good plus with Vin Diesel is he's got range. After seeing "Reign of Fire" I'd add Matthew McConaughey (and BTW: that's the correct spelling of this guy's name) and Christian Bale. I'd like to see Matthew M as John Carter in the upcoming "John Carter Warlord of Mars" flick. He'd be great! Another dude who has a strong chance of bein' a beeg action star is Donnie Yen - you just saw a smidgeon of him in Blade 2. Keep an eye on this guy. Big things gonna happen - he's not "young" - 38-years - but he's a phenomal martial artist. Women wise? I'd say Zhang ZiYi (Crouching Tiger). Jennifer Garner (another one to keep an eye out for). And one of my faves: Michelle Rodriquez (Girl Fight - GREAT movie; Fast and the Furious, Resident Evil).

Back to the boys: ya gotta remember there are unlikely "action stars", too. I recall that Bruce Willis was a unlikely action star, until "Die Hard". One really young buck I'm thinking of is the kid who plays "Connor" on the WB series "Angel". This kid is great. Oh, and that brings me to the guy who plays "Angel": David Boreanaz.

Most people will pick The Rock and Vin Diesel as two of the new generation of action stars. Personally, I think that the 80’s sociopolitical environment is what gave rise to the “Stallone” and “Schwarzenegger” hero-type (Arnold’s charisma notwithstanding; the guy WAS a legitimate phenomenon). I’m not sure those flicks would find an audience today, as evidenced by the lukewarm reaction than those very two actors have been recieving as of late. They needed the 80’s, and the 80’s needed them. Long live DVD.

'Batman vs. Superman' vs. 'Spider-Man' in 2004? by Brandon Gray July 9, 2002

HOLLYWOOD - The three most popular superheroes are poised to duke it out for the box office crown of 2004.

Shortly after Spider-Man shattered records, Sony announced that the sequel would swing into theaters on May 7, 2004. The Marvel Comics adaptation has since become the biggest comic book movie ever.

Now comes word that after the commercial and critical failings of their last big screen adventures -- 1997's Batman and Robin and 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace -- Batman and Superman will star in the same movie, though their on-screen pairing will result in fisticuffs of some sort.

Warner Bros. will resurrect DC Comics' signature characters in Batman vs. Superman, which will not be a continuation of the previous movies. Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) will direct from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven) that finds the superheroes starting as buddies but ending up foes over their differing philosophies.

"Superman stands for what is powerful, clear, bright, noble and just; Batman is dark, obsessive and vengeful," Petersen told The Hollywood Reporter. "Because they are so different, they will inevitably end up clashing. It will be a battle of the titans."

According to Petersen, the earliest that cameras could roll is early 2003, and the shoot would last five to six months. No one has been cast yet, but the director is expected to make unusual choices a la Sam Raimi's use of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.

Petersen is aiming for a summer 2004 release, which would pit it against Spider-Man 2 in the same season. Batman vs. Superman would join Scooby-Doo 2 and the third Harry Potter as one of Warner Bros.' four tent pole releases for the year -- the fourth is not known at this point.

Last in theaters with 2000's The Perfect Storm, Petersen will helm the project prior to taking on Ender's Game and The Trojan War, which he had been previously attached to.

The two solo revivals of the superheroes -- Charlie's Angels director McG's Superman and Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One -- are still in development, though neither one has been given the official greenlight.

Warner Bros. has been eager to see Superman fly again for some time, and not only because the franchise could still be quite lucrative as hinted by the small screen success of Smallville. The studio has already spent millions trying to revive it over the years, including the commissioning of scripts for Superman Lives from Kevin Smith (Chasing Amy), Dan Gilroy (Freejack) and Bill Wisher (Judge Dredd).

But Warner Bros. still didn't have a script it deemed usable and the projected production cost had escalated to a whopping $140 million, so studio boss Lorenzo di Bonaventura aborted pre-production in April 1998 as the disappointing performance of Batman and Robin still hung in the air. Further loss was incurred as Superman Lives director Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage -- who publicly talked about playing Superman at such venues as The Tonight Show -- had pay-or-play deals. In other words, their contracts stipulated that they would get paid even if the movie went forward without them.

Other comic book-based pictures that could be released in 2004 include Catwoman, Constantine and Iron Man.

Okay, comic book fans: 2003 and 2004 are shaping up to be a good time to get "your geek out". Yahoo! BTW: Spider-Man has now officially tied "Titanic" as the fastest movie to hit the $400 million mark in revenue. Both took 66-days. Patricia

Will Ender’s Game be an adaptation of the book by Orson Scott Card? Cuz’ I read that book about 11 or 12 years ago and it was EXCELLENT. Hope they don’t mess up the movie.

DeCascos Is THE MAN!!! Get ‘Only the Strong.’ Not so great of a movie, but the martial art in it - caporara (I know i butchered the spelling on that one) is sweet. But, the coolest thing is that that is not his art of choice, his old man actually is a master of another art that Mark is into. He learned the new one for this movie in like a month. Just goes to show you how athletic and dedicated he is. I hope he blows up, cuz he is THE MAN.

Yea, that teaser has been up for awhile, basically just an animated poster. The latest bit of T3 news is that filming has stopped because the budget is spiraling out of control. No word yet on when filming will resume or whether or not certain sequences will be cut down or cropped entirely due to monetary limitations.

Oh well, I tried to scoop the Movie Queen.
:frowning: Patricia, you must work near or on a computer all day. What do you do for a living? Just curious.

I have to admit I was impressed with Matt Damon as a sort of action hero in The Bourne Identity. I think this guy has a serious future as an action movie star in Bruce Willis style movies.

Hi TEK: well, I’m the Office Coordinator of the Theater Arts Department at Portland State University. And it’ summer right now - so the campus is basically a ghost town. And yes, I’m at a computer all day. Cuz when I’m home, I also have to work on our MAC to update my online portfolio (being an artist, too). And I useto be a Hardware Specialist at a software company. So, was at a computer all day there, too. Basically I LOVE movies. I love the “behind the scenes”, “making of” area of movies more. So, I keep in touch with the industry. Maybe it’s due to my artistic background - or the fact that I’m still a kid at heart

pda: I'll check that out for you and let you know what's goin' on.

Mufasa, I too thought the same thing about the absence of notable “young” action stars. However I think that our generation (mid twenties early thirties) are conditioned to expect their action heroes to be well muscled (ala Van Damme, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, etc) or shoot the place up with machine guns. I think the “younger” action hero has evolved and is more “tech” and “cyber” savvy.

Interestingly the emergence of the female action hero is well and truly upon us with nearly every second heroine dispatching bad guys with well aimed karate kicks and judo throws.

Excellent observations! I agree…

It’s seems like (whether it’s the 80’s Hero or the “Hero For the Millenium”), that “outsider” or “bad boy” or “non-conformist” image still seems to hold true as a common thread, whether it’s “Rambo”, “Spider Man” or Vin Diesels “xXx” (Can’t wait to see that! Any advanced reviews or thoughts on “xXx”?)

After the rave reviews of Minority Report can people take Tom Cruise seriously as an action star? It was clear he wanted to fill the gap with the pathetic Mission Impossible movies, has he acheived it? I haven’t seen MR so unsure, but tend to say no.

I have to agree with Mark DeCascos. I saw him in a few, straight to video movies(Actually on DVD), but I haven’t seen him in any big movies other then Brotherhood of the Wolf, which is still my favorite movie.

To Hyphnz: The next MI will be directed by David Fincher. So it will be interesting to see where Tom babee can take this “action” thing. Tom Cruise will be filming “The Last Samurai”, I believe, before MI:3, though.

An advanced screening of XXX has produced this review:

"Hello. I saw another advance screening of XXX. One of my close buddies owns a theater and he always invites me to these things because he knows I love movies. Anywho. Here is the review:

"Jesus Christ. Watching XXX felt like a sin. Not because there is many love making scenes in it, not because of the vulgar language used, but just becaues it sucked. Bad. Anyone who was associated with this movie should be shot with that gun that Vin Diesel uses at the end of the movie. Although Samuel L. Jackson did manage to pull off a semi-good performance, the acting everywhere else was horrible. Vin Diesel should be condemned to cavemen parts now because he only knows about 4 words in the english language, or so it seemed. There was hardly any plot at all, just a lot of things blowing up and Vin Diesel getting laid. Not only was there an unnescisary amount of things exploding but it ran too long. I wanted the movie to end many times. And I almost cried at the end...[SPOILER!] (Note from Patricia: I didn't post the spoiler...didn't want to ruin it for anyone) God. I just wasted 2 hours of my life. Thank you."

Okay, so I take it, this guy did not like it. :-) Patricia

Yes, the last I heard The Last Samurai will be filmed in New Plymouth in the North Island of New Zealand, (did I know something about a movie Patricia didn’t? Man that would be something!) ;-).
