I’ve been trying to purchase some vibram’s but after visiting a dozen or so online stores I can’t seem to find my size (40) in black KSO’s. Anyone have any tips on how to find a store that has inventory besides 46 and 47s? Thanks in advance.
Are you sure on your size? I went and tried them on, and found that I was about 4 sizes smaller than what I’d originally thought.
sigh< Story of my life.
Haha, beat you to it.
Yes I did the measuring and found that my right foot was 10 and 1/4 inches while the left was 10 1/8 inches which puts me at a 40 in KSOs. I found a pair of black/grey camo KSOs in my size so I picked them up. I will only be using them for lifting, running, hiking, and rucking as the girl refuses to be seen in public with me wearing them so the camo is fine.
I would never run in five fingers on concrete.
I run in either full support Asics or in Nike Free’s for short distance work.
If your a big guy like me, running in five fingers is asking for all sorts of issues with impact stress.
I was track for years, and I know a little something about stress fractures and heel pain. I lift in Chucks and love them.

I disagree, running in VFFs is the #1 way to decrease impact, especially for larger runners and running on hard surfaces. I ran in shoes for years, suffered horrible shin splints and knee pain. Now I run on concrete in my VFFs, no pain at all. Sounds like maybe you’re trying to land too much on your heel. When you learn how to barefoot run your calf and lower leg takes the impact- these are our natural shock absorbers. You’ll not be able to run quite as fast this way- I can’t anyway- but this is a small price to pay.

This would lead me to believe a proper forefoot strike was not being used. I run on pavement and concrete and asphalt and my feet never hurt.

Do they wear out noticably quiker on pavement? I’m going to get a pair soon and I will use them primarily for pushing/pulling a prowler I made on pavement.
I’ve been using my KSOs everyday for the last 2 years, much of this on pavement and concrete, and they’re still in good shape. If you use the toe socks with your VFFs you won’t have to wash them as often, hence less wear. I also pull sleds and push prowlers in my VFFs. I’ve even pulled a 40K pound bus in them, they’re not as fast as climbing shoes, but they worked fine.
Just got my KSO’s in in the mail today and I have to say they are really comfortable. The only thing is I’m not sure if I should have gotten a 43 instead of a 42, they are just a tiny bit snug someone mentioned earlier though that they stretch somewhat. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see, also I don’t see these fitting well with the Inji socks on, have to pick up a pair yet. I’m going to overhead squat so I’ll see how I like them for training.

You want them snug, after about 2 weeks they’ll stretch out and you’ll have more room. That’s why you want to have VFFs one size smaller than your shoe size. I made the mistake of getting a size 43 with my first pair, they quickly became too loose in the heel and toe pockets. When I got my 2nd pair I ordered a 42- felt tight at first, but now they’re perfect.

I’m a big proponent of bare-footing, however, anyone doing serious running should be wearing shoes. Specifically any sprinting that is not on nice grass; wear shoes. Any distance running of more than three miles or so; wear shoes.
What about all the people running marathons in VFFs who swear by them? You just have to allow your body to adapt- begin walking, then running short distances, and so on. The first time I ran in VFFs I only did 1/2 mile, but my calf muscles ached for days.
Notice that this soreness was muscular, my JOINTS felt great. Our lower legs are our best shock absorbers for running and walking. If you care about the integrity of your joints then Vibrams are what you should be wearing when you need to cover your feet.
Just got mine today. Played golf with them and it felt pretty awesome being able to feel the grass. I only ever wear chucks or sanuks though, so I don’t know if these will affect me at all.
I am curious about this barefoot running everyone is talking about. I do sprints in chucks, but longer runs in nikes and I’m not sure what people mean by running with your calves and front of the feet. Anyone care to elaborate?
I’m a PT, and as you can see from my avatar, am in LOVE with these shoes.
I’ve done my research, and have also found an amazing book on the topic. It’s called “Born to Run” by Christopher Macdougal. I wont get into the specifics, but there is a lot of information packed into this book and also a very good story (completely factual) about a secret tribe in Mexico that runs hundreds of miles a day with only tiny leather slippers.
Just DON’T over do it initially. I got some pretty wicked tendonitis in my left forefoot from basically running the distance of 2 marathons in the first 2 weeks. Ease in is the best advice I can give. I’ve converted at least 5 of my clients and they have also completely cured my knee pain. My 200 dollar Asics did nothing but make it worse.
I plan on teaching some barefoot running classes in the next few months, it’s brought back my love for the sport.

This is sad news. Good thing I only get my pairs through an actual store. Fake Air Jordans were bad enough but now this?

VFFs have very little padding in the heel, you simply can’t land on your heel. You must land on the mid part of your foot, this is what works the hell out of your calf muscles. BTW, if you want bigger and stronger calves then get some Vibrams!

Thanks for the info and the video. I think I’m gonna pick up that book. I am definitely going to give this a try, looks like I’ll have to shorten my stride up to ensure that I’m not heel striking. Thanks again.
Man I wore man all yesterday and I loved these shoes. Went in and deadlifted, best deadlift shoes I’ve ever worn. Perfect for warming up(hip mobility, roll, band work, before throwing on the Olympic shoes. Also I did some snatches in them as well and will not bad I much prefer my Kanamas for Olympic lifts. Walked around campus and got some goofy stares too, people don’t know what they’re missing.

I’m a RN, I’m always interested in what others in the medical field think about minimalist footwear to promote health/rehab. I’ve heard from a number of PTs who have embraced this, doctors not so much, they tend to think it’s a fad. I suspect this is because PTs know more about how the body actually functions than the vast majority of doctors.
The problem is most people will never try VFFs- they don’t know what they’re missing. Orthopedic surgeons doing knee replacements will continue to have plenty of work in the future.

The damn things are selling out everywhere, I guess these fakes are trying to fill the huge demand. I’ve heard they’re shit though, the fakes fall apart fast.
