Shocks From Cable Rowing

Today while cable rowing I had to cut my session short because while I was letting the weight down I got a strong electric shock sensation in the left of my back.
After this happened the first time, it happened every time I tried to do the row, and ended up being bad enough I couldn’t continue.

I’m not sure if this is worth seeing the doctor about, so I though I would ask to see if any of you have had this problem, and what the solution was.

Sounds like you’ve got some malfunctioning circuitry in your back panel, mister roboto.

Honestly, I have nothing constructive to add, but I’m really interested in seeing someone explain this.

Are you able to wear an anolog wrist watch?

You probably tweaked a back muscle, or had a spasm. I’ve had em and that’s what they feel like(someone electricuting you). It’s nothing if that’s it. Just rest it for a bit until it feels better. Massage/heat works good.

Used a tennis ball to loosen up the area, and took a bath with bath salts, and it seems to be fine today. I’ll report back when I get back from the gym tomorrow to see if this solves it completely.

Smart man, you took the right recovery approach. You get those when you put the back into too much shear, I did construction for years and got those all the time. Lesson learned: don’t arch the back when loading it. Cable rowing is the same mechanism as bending down to pick something up: keep the back straight or you’ll get hurt. Deadlifters tend to get their injuries in the lowering portion as well, I think we slack off when lowering and let in a little arch, and bam.
