Maschy, ok will try to have the legs do most of the work, I’ve been told that before once. As well as the loose arms. Pulling from the boxes still feels weird, there’s still some disconnect from that first pull.
Um “2nd extension do the work”, is this what you mean…I feel like I go under the bar a bit too soon without finishing the pull (i.e. that extra hip hop and shoulder shrug)
Alexus, yeah our body lengths are just abou the same. Although you may have longer legs than me, not sure, too hard to tell since all my weight settles on my hips. I can SEE now how my hips rise sooner than they should. Will play around with that, without trying to get confused when I actually go and do the pull. I’m easily confused with the first pull still.
ironcross, thanks. Yeah vid not really good, you also can’t see that sometimes my feet are going to wide and back when I land on the squat, but I can feel that they are. Gotta do some work on that too.
Its true the weight feels very light until I’m under the bar in OH squat and my left wrist just goes crunch. I’m’ playing around with how to hold it so it doesn’t get aggravated. But even without doing any snatching and just doing OH squats with 15kg it really bothers it.

I got all excited because the gym in the hotel had a men’s oly bar. Anyway didn’t do any snatching just OH squats (“ouch” without the wraps) and loads of snatch pulls with 25kg. Well I overdid the pulls, but not in the build the muscles sort of way, didn’t get any DOMS from it, but got a whopper of a neck ache when I woke up the next morning. You would think I should know better because I did a whole mess of them and didn’t have time to cool down & stretch properly afterwards. The pain started from my upper back all the way to my eye balls for 14 hours, got nauseous, dizzy and plain fucked from it . When I finally go home took a long hot shower, hooked myself to my TENS machine, put some deep heat on and didn’t get any relief until I took my pain killers I usually reserve for bad TOM cramps. I’m feeling rather delicate today. Will do some very light foam rolling and very light back yoga poses plus a hot bath tonight.
Being a girl is SO fun sometimes
Hang in there…
Thanks MiM.
Maschy if you are out there you’d be so proud. I did 2 reps yesterday with 25kg where the bar just flew up (just like you said), I & the bar practically achieved weightlessness. There was at least 1 second where I felt like the bar was floating as well as my body. Think I kinda scared myself so on the 3 rep, couldn’t replicate it. It was a bit unnerving because I had to really trust that I could land in the squat properly. So we stuck with just hang snatches since my coach hadn’t trained me in over 2 weeks.
Next week is a new program, which he said will be tougher. We did bench squats again, this time he let me go up to 50kg, which was easy, although my shoulders were (are still) fucking killing me. My benching still sucks. Wish I could afford a massage. An hour before my session my stomach was killing me again too, had to run to the pharmacy to get something for my stomach. The pharmacist was nice enough because I was short on money. I’m not sure what’s going on with it, I’ve practically given up bread, I really don’t want to do the elimination diet thing again to find out what I shouldn’t be eating.
Slowly catching up in here, but I like it! I hope the stomach issues sort themselves out. From a gal with a sensitive stomach, I feel your pain!
Ow that sucks - I have just had my own neck adjusted after a two week headache brought on by neck pain and shoulder tension. That icepick in the eyeball feeling is just not what you need. I have very testy levators - doesn’t need much to set them off, unfortunately.
Do you have any massage or sports therapy-type training schools around where you are? Because quite often they look for volunteers so you can get free treatment (albeit at a beginner level).
cholulalula, thanks for dropping by. What sort of stomach issues do you have? Mine have only recently just started to become a pain.
Funny you should write that Cal, I was actually dreaming about getting a shoulder massage last night. Your poor body, I think it needs lots of loving care and attention. You should go date a physical therapist or something. You don’t have to commit to anything just to have him around once and awhile. I’ve looked for schools before with no luck, but maybe I’ll try a bit harder.
So I pussed out last night in going to the pool. Work had a late pot luck lunch thing that involved wine, ugh. I don’t even like doing those things with people I have to see day in and day out. I wouldn’t be so upset but I got nothing constructive done yesterday, not one thing! Except getting out of bed, laundry and dishes (boring!) and its my own fault. And now I’m procrastinating at work on here, lol!
Weightlifting is quite like life, only compressed into 3 seconds. Knowing when to use control, when to be aggressive and just let go and trust yourself that you’ll land on feet side down.
Anyway guess I’d better go join the capatilist world and get some work done.

YAY!!! That’s awesome! And isn’t it a great sensation? Maybe that’s why they call it “defying gravity”
Good idea on the hang snatches! It took me forever to start pulling from the ground - ugh! And once I can back to Oly, I forsee a lot of hang cleans and snatches for a good while. lol!
Training is looking great! Keep at it. Get strong!!

I like this, it’s so true.
I want to see your video, but I’m at a loss on how/where to see it.
It’s cool that you’re getting the flying, weightless feeling. Sometimes it’s there for me and sometimes not, but it truly feels weirdly incredible when it happens. I’ve gotten scared by it too. It sounds like we are struggling with the same arm thing (the hitching as my coach calls it). It’s all such a learning process.
Also, that’s awesome about the free coaching.
Ah sorry moved it too soon. There was nothing weightless about that session.
The crazy thing is I didn’t even know that weightless sensation was supposed to happen. The bar & I were up, and I was a bit like WTF, didn’t know if I could land properly but when I did my coach said “that’s what I want to see”, why didn’t he tell me haha.

so wise ![]()
nlmain, I’m slowly learning the aggression part in life. So far I have ‘when shit needs to get done & when shit needs to stop’
Sorry Alexus, been meaning to write about my jerking off, I mean jerking. I still can’t remember what I’m supposed to do until my coach tells me. Anyway the mantra is dip, punch, dip. Then we worked on the split jerk, need to put in the aggression when I punch up (of course) but then when I do, I forget to dip properly at the end. Anyway I guess I’m not too worried about it, have not practiced or even thought about jerks too much.
haha yeah, i have problems with jerks, too. still trying to get the hang of the dip-drive-punch without pushing it too far out or taking my face off.
i thought the similarity was more striking than that, but i think it is probably because of the profile view with dark hair and ponytail. i also have addidas trackies and a gym top exactly that color lol.
the oly lifts really do involve so much in such a short space of time. even if i’m as fast as i can i still feel too slow. that is wonderful that your coach told you to come on down for the rest of the month. sounds like you are making good progress.

x2!
Fucking shoulder from jerking off! Mother fucking cunt biatch fucking shit!
This is how I’m feeling!
(back when chemical brothers had more balls than they knew what to do with)
Anyway I gotta go roll & ice this bitch, I’ll come back when I can think without cursing.
oh no!
(I feel like that pretty much everyday)
How you feel better.
Thanks MiM!
Ugh still in pain, all night. Was on the TENS machine for hours. I did do a 27kg, or was it 28kg?? snatch though, the most I’ve ever done. My snatching was good, but I just ran out of focus and gas when cleans & jerks came around, wasn’t feeling 100%. Had to use my inhaler before the session which leaves me feeling jittery.
Maybe I should’ve just gotten a shoulder/back massage in the first place earlier in the week, not sure, but they weren’t feeling right all week and then jerking 40kg for the first time…Anyway my coach is going to talk to their on-site physio about my next program, I didn’t realise it was going to feel this bad the next day. It’s mainly when I do an external rotation.
I’m trying not to be mad at it.
