Sharing a Little Good News

Congrats stu. Oh and to you too double deuce, ya gun trotting hick.

The trick to not lose any sleep is to have your lady go to bed before you do, put on some UFC event or some other woman repellent (any sport really) on the tv. Tell her you’ll be joining her in a minute until she falls asleep , and then off to the guest room you go (the couch will do if it’s a good one).

Yeah she’ll bitch and moan in the morning but she’s frail and you’ll be invigorated from a good night’s sleep so you’ll breeze through all that “support yada yada” nonsense; in fact you can actually stand up a bit earlier and head to work before she wakes up (for the 4th or 5th time) to avoid any unpleasant recriminations.

I did this with my second one and it was heaven (well compared to my first kid that is - I still had to change diapers and all that stuff).
lol. I’ll keep that in mind, my backwards communist friend. Though I don’t watch TV, so I’ll have to come up with some alterations.

Thanks everyone. I went with Cat a week or two back for her checkup (sonogram), and not only did I see the little bugger moving around, but I got to hear the heart beat through (I assume) a microphone in the wand (I assume that’s what you’d call the ‘thingy’ they use -lol).

Just completely blew my mind. I mean, I already knew what was going on, but previous images just looked like a cashew, or maybe a croissant, while this one not only actually looked like something, but had a heart beat. I know everyone who has already been through this is probably smiling knowingly, but man is this just beyond words for me.

And Cat,… well, Cat’s jumping on the scale every morning, vowing that she’s not gonna be one of those women who put on 50 lbs of pregnancy weight for am 8 lb kid. She’s certainly not doing anything stupid like dieting, but she is already planning her post pregnancy physique transformation. One thing we did realize, was that with her having to deal with the brunt of the weight gain in the summer months (we figure she’ll be pretty big by then), she won’t have to really worry about going in to work, or her usual zillion things she’s juggling. Also, we’re kind of frozen yogurt junkies, so what better way to spend a hot New York summer than not caring about your weight and going to town on frozen treats.

With an October estimated date of arrival, I’m already considering what sorts of Halloween costume we can put together with a new born and a recently pregnant woman.

The heartbeat was the part that really got me too. My wife is due July 2nd, so it is right around the corner. If I am not mistaken that makes 4 or 5 T-Nation babies coming up. Do you know if girl or boy yet?
I must admit-The heartbeat made me cry.

I was amazed at the detail of the sonogram too. We could see (and they measured) lens development, leg length, lips- all in such fine detail.

The whole process was amazing.
The heartbeat didn’t register with me nearly as much as finding out the sex. Going from ‘it’ to ‘he’ was pretty big.
Finding out the gender was a whole other experience for me. Hearing “it” was a “she” totally freaked me out. Not really sure why but something about having a girl made me that much more nervous.

I just can’t believe all these people having unprotected sex!

congrats to you all and… I’m glad it’s you and not me.

…and buy whatever “toys” you want while you can - last chance!

Congrats dude … It’s a wonderful ride

Dope! Baby Stu!

400 hours of lost sleep in the first year after having a child, if im not mistaken.

Gotta be rough on a bodybuilder.

That’s awesome, Stu! Congrats to you both.

Sweet! Congratulations!

My wife and I are at 22 weeks!
you mean 5 months…

Why do you parents do this?!
Medically it is more convenient since the body develops faster the younger it is. All doctor visits are done at X weeks so you always know that and not necessarily the month. Then it goes to X months when they are born and people complain “you mean 1 year…”
Yup. There is a huge difference between 20 weeks (5 months) and 22 weeks (5.5 months)
Yea I get that, but I never understood why you would say it that way to anyone besides your doctor lol. Oh well. I’ll check back in 525 minutes.
LOL!
I don’t mind the month or week thing until the kid is 1 year old then someone saying my kid is 23 months makes me mad

Wow, sounds like this is a bumper crop year for TN-Babies. Maybe I can tailor one of my old Testosterone T-Shirts into a onesie -lol.

We haven’t even thought about names yet. The doctor actually told us the sex of the child, but we’re sitting on the info for a bit. My brother’s wife is due to give birth in a few weeks, and they did a little ‘reveal’ thing for the close family which I think was cool. So maybe we’ll do something like that.

In the meantime, my brother is going nuts that I won’t tell him if it’s a boy or a girl. He even tried to trick Cat into thinking I had secretly confided in him, hoping she’d then acknowledge if his guess was right or not. Luckily she didn’t, and the ‘game’ is still on. I’m seriously enjoying this

We did one of those. We used crème filled cupcakes with pink (or blue) icing. I have very little to do with all that planning. I mostly just pick things up from the store when asked ha

Congratulations, Stu! Quite the baby boom indeed! Congrats to all of you.

Stu, you mentioned Cat planning for after baby when she can reclaim her figure. Just tell her those women who stop breastfeeding so they can get on fat burners are doing it wrong. Breastfeeding is a fat burner. Enjoy those first few months before they can scatter Legos down your hallway. There’s no big rush.

Lol, I’ll make sure I let her know about the breastfeeding. Cat usually sleeps like a rock, and I’ve been joking that once our offspring is here, it’s gonna be her turn to be on call during the night (I’m always up for the slightest thing with the dog, the phone, etc). If she thinks it’ll help her tighten up again, I have no doubt she’ll jump at the opportunity

It’s a pretty sizable calorie expenditure, and also far far better nutrition for your baby. It’s a win win. There are studies around if you look for them showing women who breastfeed do much better losing the baby weight.

^ Yes. Better for baby in all sorts of ways (lower risk of SIDS, better immunity, fewer allergies, less obesity, better for brain maturation and IQ) and lowers mother’s lifetime risk of breast cancer.

I was a runner in the years I was having my kids, but the baby weight always came off in 4-5 months as I recall. I stayed on the low end of weight gain for my last baby, so I came back faster from her. It took a bit longer for my body to really go back shape wise, but 9 months is doable for most women - 9 to go up, 9 to come down. There are a few who say the hormones while nursing seem to keep them curvier everywhere, but since you can allow for about 500 cals a day for feeding the munchkin, I found it pretty easy to create a gradual deficit and take it off.

Oh, and Aragorn shared a good article from a friend of his about lifting when expecting. Google Abigail Kluttz baby bumps and barbells. They say you can do what you are used to doing, with a couple of safety guidelines about laying on your back and keeping heart rate below 140. I think if I were doing it again, I’d keep lifting, but be very cautious and keep my rep ranges high, as long as I was comfortable. There’s a 7-months pregnant woman at my gym who comes in and uses the machines, and lifts with just the bar, or puts a couple of 10’s on there. She’s doing great. I know there are women lifting heavy and doing OLY stuff to the end, but from my point of view, I’d err on the side of caution. Maybe a few more months of getting your strength back, compared to possibly risking the pregnancy. Just my two cents.

Happy for all of you! I love my kids. Lots of nostalgia about those early years. Enjoy them. It flies.
