Sex, Squats, and Rock 'n Roll

internal shit is scary too. i dropped a bar on my chest doing floor presses and a day later i was spitting up blood. my dumbass didn’t go to the doctor and luckily it healed eventually.

i lucked out. don’t be that guy…meaning me.

So, this morning, I can take deep breaths and I don’t much feel anything.

If I suck in my gut, I feel it in my side.

If I poke/prod my side, it feels more like a bruise, that is, it feels tender, but not deep inside, but not quite on the skin (like a bruise would), more sore-like. I don’t know if that’s from the poking/prodding.

I’ll ice it tonight (on the road this week starting in about 3 hours). If it’s a slight muscle strain or micro-tear it should be sorting itself out soon.

I won’t lift today, either.

Injuries suck.

And what sucks even more is that it’s so difficult to tell sometimes whether it’s serious or not. Whether lifting will exacerbate the problem or make it feel better because of increased blood flow.

Take care. And be smart.

Got yourself an Abdominal strain huh? Those suck… I usaully get those doing stupid things like sand bag throws or carrys or anything real heavy with 1 arm (sound familiar ?) goes away for me in 2 weeks- just pain like Meat said.

I really think this is where I am. I’ve been looking up hernias (which are fucking disgusting as far as Google images go)-- nothing even close to position of pain.

It feels sore now like someone jabbed me in the right side, maybe 4 inches above belly button, just along the front line of the obliques below the ribs, but maybe an inch or two deep.

I’ll do some cardio and curls in the AM and try to hit the local gym for some high rep stuff just to ease back in.

Will report tomorrow.

I appreciate all the responses.

So, how you doin?

Zzzzzzzzzz, snork!!! Oh, hey!

So, I was on the road the past two weeks. Took the first week off because of the pain I was having in my side, which spooked me.

That has subsided…

Last week I was in Jackson, Tennessee (home of Casey Jones, Pringles, original Cracker Barrel, and where Davey Crockett told his constituents to “go to hell”…). I lifted at Gold’s Gym (Jackson). Early AM, mostly higher rep stuff.

This week, back home at my gym and moved a little heavier. Weights are down even though I weighed myself, now at 262 and actually a little leaner.

Tonight did tris/bis. Got 275x6 on CGBP, which is where I was a month or more ago before all the shenanigans. Hit 4 plates per side x 3 on the HS shoulder presses, which is, I think an improvement.

Legs still down, haven’t squatted, but I’m going to start cycling in bench and squats again. I need to start deadlifting again.

Need to get my diet back in line, too. Will be around a lot of cake this weekend. Another year gone!

Happy Birthday then! how many?

Something over 35!

Happy Birthday. Glad the side pain issue has rectified itself.

It’s the 10th anniversary of his 35th birthday, or something like that!!!

Short on time, so summary of PR highlights for the week:

T-Bar: 6 plates x 6 (note: one plate is loaded behind the lifter, so not quite 6 plates)

DB Press: 130x5
Inc. DB Press: 130x3
(Interestingly, bench press #'s are way down, perhaps from lack of benchpressing consistently for a couple months)

DB Shoulder press (straight back): 110x8, x6 (wt + rep pr for that angle)

HS Shoulder Press: 4 plates per side x 4

Great work steely. glad you made it another year (happy belated birthday and shit). Did you do anything self-destructive for your birthday?

Fuckton of carrot cake and ice-cream cake.

Happy birthday. I hope you had a great day with your family. It’s the best place to be.

May the coming year bring you many PRs and more carrot cake.

Is that a metric fuckton? If so, well done.

Happy Birthday Steely D

how is the fam?

few birthdays this weekend in over 35.

Had a total meltdown with my S.I. joint about a week and a half ago. That seems to have worked itself out with a few visits to chiro and doing treadmill/bike/stepmill for about an hour a day (have to keep legs moving).

Sucks being a software developer when the WORST thing you can do for a tight/frozen SI joint is to sit around all day.

Back to lifting this week.

Highlights:

DB Press: 130x5, 140x2

HS Low Row: 5 plates per side x 5
HS Iso Row: " "

Not much back/leg loading until hip is more stable, but had a pretty good leg workout nonetheless (HS Linear Hack, Leg Ext, High rep SLDL, calves).

Ate way too much past two weeks, but I think the heavy cardio a couple times a day may have blunted that
