I was doing clean and press the other day and noticed a little discomfort behind my shoulder blade afterwards. Today it was still there so I tried stretching it out and now there’s a sharp pain under my shoulder blade.
It hurts the most when I lift my right arm, lie down, get up from lieing down, lean to the left, and with deep breaths.
Any suggestions??
Went to the doc today, told me I tore something in my back and to ice it for the next three days. He gave me some big ass ibuprofen and a muscle relaxant and refered me to physical therapy. Pretty useless…
As of this morning the pain has also moved to the left side of my chest. Sneezing hurts like hell.
I had the trainer at my school also take a look, he said I have a lot of knots and massaged them out, along with giving some stim. He thinks I strained a muscle in between my ribs. btw- I didn’t feel any better afterwards
Not to be a pessimist, but the physical therapist will probably take up squillions of hours of your time and accomplish next to nothing. Try to find an ART (Active Release Techniques) provider in your area. This kind of thing is what they specialize in, and a good ART provider can work wonders quickly. Search for one on their website:
alright thanks…I’ll make an appmnt asap
I had this same problem once and the doctor told me i had COSTOCHONDRITIS.
Basicaly i had inflammation of the muscle between the ribs and under the scapula on the left side.
I`m convinced i got it from failing to lock out verticaly on a deadlift with a weight that was WAAAY to heavy for me.
Something tore and DAMN did it hurt.
ICE/HEAT and ibuprofen cured it in a week.
Could have been much worse.

If the pain has moved laterally then it does fit with an intercostal trigger point or mucle tear/pathology.
If you lift both arms overhead and lean away from the affected side, does the nature of the pain changer, i.e. does it get worse or better?

When I lift my arms up and lean away from the affected side (left side)the pain gets worse.
I made an appointment with a ART chiropractor tomorrow.
I’ve had pain like that behind my shoulder blade after doing heavy bench pressing. I just foam rolled it with a tennis ball and let it rest a few days and it was fine.
