Secret to Getting Big!

I just ordered some supplies and it came with this book. “GET the PUMP” The last word in bodybuilding.

It claims that the secret to getting big is chasing the pump in the gym…

Has anyone else seen this?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned here at T-Nation it’s that what you do Outside the gym has at lease if not more to do with gaining as what you do inside. Gotta eat!

Mate,

Are you serious??? Let me tell you the pump doesnt mean shit.

The secret to getting big in my opinion is:

  1. heavy compound movements;
  2. sufficient variety (in terms of set/rep schemes, exercise selection and, to some extent, intensity)
  3. a small caloric excess (provided by quality food including sufficient protein an carbs)
  4. avoiding undertraining and overtraining (only you can now what this means for you)
  5. pursuing strength

As I think Heavythrower once said - the solution to your problems lies in the squat rack and the beef section at the supermarket.

Also read anything you can by Chad Waterbury, Ian King, Dave Tate, Jim Wendler and Louie Simmons.

Good luck.

I never go for just pump, but always manage to get it anyways. If there realy are or were any secrets to bodybuilding, the pros on this site seem more than willing to let the cat out of the bag. In fact, for the past several years it seems they have been on some kind of mission to do just that.

I should have stated I didn’t order the book. I bought a dip belt, some chalk and a bf tester… The name of the book is Get the Pump. I was pretty shocked by it since pretty much everyone here knows that is not the way to grow… Yet here is a book full of pro bodybuilders suggesting they have reaserch that proves it is the key.

I just found it amusing and thought I would share with my T-Nation Bretheren. Things like this help explain why I see some of the crap in the gym.

Dude, I got the book too with an order from a site online. Pay closer attention to it. You’ll see that it’s one big ass add for Pump Tech.

Yes, I have seen this book. I, too, got it free when I ordered a product online. By far the worst parts are weekly workout routines which I don’t think anybody really took the time to think through. I seem to remember that one had you training biceps the day before training back, or something similarly odd. There were some “hardcore” leg workouts that included Smith machine squats and the hack squat machine, but no actual squatting. As I have stated before, I am a fan of pro bodybuilding and seeing so many top guys lend their names to such inanity was depressing. Even worse are Ronnie’s new ads, which claim that his new company’s products are giving him results like never before. Uh, Ronnie, you were Mr. O for seven years before you touched the products in question. I think your results have been OK.

This just blows my mind, it is a 100 page, nice quality book. I figured it was an ad but I didn’t feel like reading the entire thing.

Some quotes…

" The secret isn’t some long-lost training routine or special food. Maximize the pump, and you’ll grow!"

“our experts explain the nts and bolts of the pump, and why maximizing the pump works like nothing else!”

It is full of these, now I realize that “the pump” is a product. But when you first look at the book or just skim over it, you think they are referring to the pump your muscles feel.

I suppose the expense of the book is comparable to what Biotest pays for the site and all the contributors.

I like to post this kind of crap when I come across it…

Later.

And recovery.

Ah Ha! Now I recognize my training problem. It’s the nuts and bolts! And all this time I was worried about phosphorylation, deamination of protiens, and all that other mumbo-jumbo. Boy is my face red!
