Scotocus: What is a Bodybuilder?

I don’t know. I have never asked someone to flex for me.

Not always. I’ve seen many competitive BB’ers that are at or near 6’ and in the 170’s or so in competition form. They are quite muscular and ripped. One would have no problem seeing them as a BB’er.

Honestly never saw that picture of the guy that lean. I never KNEW the guy could get that lean.
I always thought he permanently walked around with that overbulked off-season look he became known for.

But no, the guy bodybuilds. He’s not a bber till he places. Somewhere. Anywhere.
Till you know EXACTLY how much size you carry when you lean down and dry out, you honestly can’t be certain what you’ll look like on stage.

You may be bodybuilding, but thats about it.

So Vic Richards isn’t a bodybuilder?

Odd.

Who comes up with these dumbass rules?[/quote]

even in contest shape 175 lbs. at 6’ tall is small. I would call them fitness competitor before I would call him a bodybuilder. or a basketball player that dieted down.

That’s a guy who walks around at 200.

Again, not always. Many of the competitive BB’ers I know stay within 10 lbs of their comp weight year around. A 6’ man can of course carry 200+ and look good, but they can also look good in the 170ish to 180ish range and stay at or near that due to diet and lifestyle.

It couldn’t be that simple could it?!?!?!

6’ 170-180 will NOT look like a bodybuilder. More like fitness model…or athlete…or beach bod…I’m 6’ 225 right now and in clothes I ‘barely’ get recognized as a bber. Take my clothes off and thats another story.

There’s different degrees of “competitive.” The BB’ers you know may be “competitive,” just “not very.”

pretty sure there are people built like that steve guy from the ‘clueless competitor’ video, who have placed in a small show…becuase there were only 2-3 people in their weight class. does that count? he did place, after all.

Really?

Michael Ferencsik, 45 year old natural BB’er. The photo is from 2006 at around 176 lbs, 4.5% BF. He’s put on about 10 lbs of muscle since that photo. He has placed 1st in his division in mutiple competitions.

He has several videos on youtube, the last one was just a month ago or so and is titled ‘one week out’ or something to that effect. This gives a good example of what he looks like as of a month ago.

To me, he looks like a body builder.

thank you. If I was 6’ 175, even if I was as ripped as an anatomy chart, I wouldn’t compete because that is not a lot of muscle. maybe at a height of 5’6", but certainly not 6’. even 200 lbs, in high single digits BF wise, your still fitness model materiel.

I think taking multiple 1st in multiple shows qualifies as pretty competitive.

well, he is 5’11, which may not sound like a big deal, but it is an important difference. Also. here is a pic at 188. very fitness-y. He has accomplished alot, but not what I would call a bodybuilder. I guess we disagree on ho big you need to be.

No one important (in BBing) gives a flying fuck about natural shows.
If you consider that dude as your goal then go for it.

thank you for a better pic.

No offense the guy looks good and deserves his props, but pics of you solo on stage always make you appear bigger than you are.

Some of my profile comp pics are me just over 200lbs at 6’ tall and I was NOT a big guy…I was NOT competitive at any real bodybuilding show.

DG

The guy also has very narrow shoulders for a melon of that size. Its guys like this that make me glad there’s untested comps.

BTW TRAJJ, aren’t you the combat pyramids guy?

In the video I mentioned he was 182 lbs at around 3% BF. I’m sorry, but I suppose we’ll have to disagree. I don’t see ‘fitnessy’ at all. I see a damn nice BB physique and a lot of dedication to what he does, particularly the legs. The fact that he has accomplished a lot in the sport, in my opinion speaks volumes.

YMMV

Thats all that ultimately matters.

The guy has good legs for a natty.no doubt. DNP, obviously.
