Science Fair Project

I want to do a science fair project on exercise, and I’ve got some ideas:

Isolation vs. Anti-isolation (irradiation)

Heavy Intensity Training vs. Volume

Slow Repititions vs. Fast Repititions

Plyometrics (fast, low intensity explosive power) vs. Isometrics (no movement, always contracted muscles)

Concentric vs. Eccentric (negative)

does anyone have any other ideas or have done a science fair project on fitness before?

say if I did compare plyometrics and isometrics, how would I even compare which one was the better exercise?

What level of education? I assume college.
What class? Is it a presentation or a paper? How long does it have to be? Of each example you gave narrow it down to something more specific to what you want to find. For example lets just say it is a compare and contrast paper many of your examples would work like comparing plyometrics to isometrics. But if it is a research paper I would stick to one method of training and the response it elicits and why that training is beneficial to an athlete etc. Answering the questions in the beginning of the post can help me help you.

Yeah…what he said. And if you get into the Eccentric vs Concentric stuff give me a PM. I’m doing a thesis on that right now.

actually this project is for high school

I’m leaning toward either concentric vs. eccentric or plyometric vs. isometric

I’d like to do HIT vs. volume, but I don’t think anyone I know is going to train with HIT. I know I won’t do HIT because I’ve tried it before and I just hit a plateau.

I’ve never even thought about just researching on one topic and measuring my results, but that would be much easier.

It’s not a research paper type project.

thanks, i’ve gotten a lot more response than i had at another bodybuilding site

Thats an awesome idea. Im sure most people would never think of doing a project on the subject of fitness. However, make sure you have a good outline for the project. Plan out research, experimentation, analyzing, and presentation. Its seems as though these kinds of topics, would need quite some time for the results to come through. Plan things out and you’ll come out with a stellar project. Let us know with what your doing, im sure we can give some insight once you pick your specific topic

You saying you hit a plateau made me think that maybe you could do a High Volume vs HIT vs Mixed Method program, (i.e. like many of CW’s programs, one day 8 X 3, one day 2 X 15, one day explosive etc). This would help a person from hitting that plateau that you hit. But this may all be moot if you can’t get anyone to do HIT lifting.

I think I’m going to do

HIT vs. volume

using the “new” HIT there:

actually I’m also thinking of concentric vs. eccentric after reading about Jones’s Colorado Experiment with
Casey Viator

Are you planning to train people with ECC vs CON or just read several papers on it? I’ve done both over the last year for my thesis so I can be of help if you like.
