College is EASY! If you think life is boring in College, then I’d hate to see what happens when yo have to work full time for a living, raise a family, kids and pay taxes. There will be a day in your future when you look back and WISH you were still there…really.
Agreed. In my student days, I used to hate when older guys would tell me this…but now that I’m an “older guy” myself I realize that they were absolutely right. Same goes for advising me against taking too many supplements and focusing on nutrition, as well as the necessity of squats and/or heavy leg work. Turns out, older guys often know their shit! ![]()
I also agree with the hilarious Billy Madison quote a few posts above me. CHERISH IT…AS LONG AS YOU CAN. I opted for a “hard” major (double Biomed and Pharmacology) and getting ready for the hardest test or lab practical was cake compared to working life. I enjoy what I do and get a lot of fulfillment out of it, but it is bloody hard at times.
In university, “all I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me”

Very nice on the double major but I would strongly recommend waiting a few more years to do your MBA.
A MBA is a great career move but ONLY once you’ve gained significant experience in the field of management you want to move into (I’m guessing finance). You need to be able to bring something to the table.
Being not even 22, you are not going to be able to do that. You won’t be able to say:
“Ah yes, I can identify with this particular problem as I was team leader of…” or “This occured often within this frame work…”
Heck, most of the TOP MBA’s dont let people in without at least 4 years work experience and you’ll find still that the average age is 29. (More like 40 for Exec. MBA) (Wharton, London Business School, Insead, HEC Paris, Harvard, Columbia, NYU Stern, IMD … )
An MBA isn’t just academic. It’s a professional degree. Much like a good MSc. Finance.
Just my .02 but hey, well done anyway. Good luck.
Trust me, I have heard everything you just said at least a hundred times from a hundred different sources.
Honestly, for me, the MBA is just a last grasp of desperation. Since graduating, I have had a company I was working for go completely under, I’ve been laid off by another company, and I have had to work sales for a short time. Its rough out there for a recent business grad, and I’m simply looking to hide out in grad school while this economy of ours sorts itself out, and starts hiring recent grads like me again.
Perhaps this is why I was so quick to tell OP to suck it up and enjoy college: Because the real world can be a huge kick in the teeth. When I was a junior, financial analyst (what I wanted to be) was an entry level job. Now, it requires 3-5 years exp if you want to work anywhere reputable.
Yeah tell me about it. It’s tough right now. I have loads of friends going back to grad school as well! Gotta do what ya gotta do.
These should be some of the best times of your life, put the diploma down and grab a beer and stogie. You deserve it.
college sucks? You’ve lost your mind, real life sucks, not being able to find a fucking job because everyone wants a 4 year degree to do anything thats above 8 dollars an hour.
^^
right now I’m a cadet at west point so needless to say theres a good amount of work. it is all relative though, so if you make it seem like it sucks then it will suck etc. make time for the things you enjoy but know when to get your head on straight and crack down on school. just remember the more you put in the more you will get out of it later in life.
I dropped out of college several years ago because I lost my mind dealing with the stuff I disagreed with. I regret the decision now. College is means to an end. My attitude now is that you shuold go in, work hard, outperform the idiots, and finish as quickly as possible with the highest grades possible and the least amount of debt possible. Don’t go to college for the social experience. Get a job instead of partying and just work your ass off the entire time.
High school sucks a lot more.
And why does college suck? I can’t see it sucking unless you’re in CC or have massive amounts of work. Go party a bit or whatever. Meet some females.

Yeah I’m about to go downtown with some females.
Anyways, high school does suck a lot more as far as being treated like a little kid, but the work you have to do in college is harder. Not that they are asking for something I can’t do but you just have to put more time in if you want to pass. I’ve been to CC and it was fucking awesome, hardly had to study and made all A’s. Anyways, dude, you will see.
The partying and “college life” kicks total ass, but the actual school part sucks! My school just went to a system where a c- is no longer passing, and there is no A+. If you got a b-, b, and b+ you would have like a 2.7 gpa for those classes because a b- counts much less than a b+ on your GPA. They are constantly trying to increase the “rigor” at my university because they are seeking an ivy league sort of status.

Yeha high school just sucks in the sense that I’m in a small ass town with boring, lame ass high school kids and guys that look like they’re 13. And school is fucking boring because it’s just a bunch of fucking busy work and projects.
Now, I’ve gotten good at slacking hardcore over the years. I don’t even have to do homework at home anymore and still get like As and Bs. I just wanna get the notes and test date and be left alone. I don’t even take notes anymore. Teacher notes are usually bullshit. I just read the book and do fine.
But yeah, the college life deal sounds fun, but I’m going to CC for my first 2 years and just working and lifting and getting all As so I can transfer to a good uni later to get my degree. But I can probably meet some cool people there, because these high school kids are lame as hell.
Oh, and college kids are always talking about passing classes. Does it really matter what grades you get in uni as long as you pass? I mean, your diploma isn’t gonna say what GPA you graduated with, right? Fill me in on this.

neither one is fun. the only downside to college is really just the lame ass papers and lots of them or math/science work. but you guys saying how awesome college is arent talking about that shit. it isnt awesome to do homework, write research papers and spend 30 mins doing one math problem. its awesome to drink, its awesome to party and bullshit around with friends but that isnt college, its fucking around.
thats like saying work is awesome because youre banging some chick you work with or youre banging multiple chicks who come into where you work and you get drunk every night afterward with your co-workers. but that isnt your actual job, its fucking around.
fucking around is awesome
thats it.
if you like your degree then college is good.
not because of partying, but because you like the stuff you learn
well i do genuinely like a couple classes. interestingly enough an otherwise dull subject can be very intriguing and make for a great experience given the right teacher/professor and the opposite can happen just as well.

some companies may look at your GPA
if youre at a CC like i am, your grades matter because only C’s and above will transfer. if youre in a prerequisite course you need a C AND pass the final in order to pass the class.
and those high school kids are going to be the same people you meet in college. this ISNT always the case but for the most part the kids who tried in school then will try later. the kids who fuck around and drink til 3am every night are gonna be the same kids doin it in college. but some people wake up and realize they cant fuck around anymore and college is serious shit, some dont.

It’s important for certain positions. The most competitive graduate jobs usually have a requirement like:
You have a degree in X
You have a GPA of 4.0
Or something like that.

If I never dropped out of college to begin with, I never would have found my passion, and thus would never have gone back to college to do something that fulfills me. Every “mistake” in your life is a priceless learning experience.

Smart move about CC.
GPA matters a lot here because you can loose your financial aid. In GA we have the Hope scholarship which pays for your tuition as long as you maintain above 3.0 GPA. College is expensive as hell without it. Also if you get put on academic probation, it would suck… you might flunk out and that means you’re a loser.

30 minutes? That’s it? ![]()
I like learning. I like thinking. Science is awesome. Math is awesome. I’m going to go to grad school, and excel, because I’m doing something I love. From reading some of the posts here, I almost feel lucky for being able to enjoy my degree work. Maybe it’s because I’m 27, and know what I want.

Uh. Jobs may ask for transcripts, which include everything - like classes you failed and retook. Also, don’t you think having a letter of recommendation from a professor (who is, perhaps, the chair of the graduate department in your college) is a good idea? Do you think you’ll get that “if you just pass?”
And even beyond all that, seriously, is that how you want to do shit? “Good enough?” Ugh. Do your fucking best, and be proud of it.
College is what you make of it.

I’m a psychology major at a really big university. I enjoy lifting weights and having a little free time to work on my car but I hate the classes. I hate studying psychology. I can read tons of information on exercise philosophy and auto mechanics. I love the hell out of woodshop and getting dirty.
Sitting in a classroom listening to some stuck up professor babble about a bunch of studys proves something kinda sucks. I feel like half the bs they teach is trying to persuade me to believe certain things. I feel like I’m learing useless infomation. Why do I need 1.5 years of foreign language? I don’t even want a career in psychology, just chose the major because it would allow me to use all my credits that transferred in. I’m in my 4th year of school and I will prob be 24 before I graduate.
There’s your problem. Get a real degree that isn’t complete bullshit. Exercise physiology or biomechanics sounds right up your alley.
I loved everything about college but the classes and associated work that went along with them.

Thanks for sugguesting those fields of study!
I just read this and it sounds like hella fun
“Kinesiology refers to the study of movement. In American higher education, the term is used to describe a multifaceted field of study in which movement or physical activity is the intellectual focus. Physical activity includes exercise for improvement of health and physical fitness, activities of daily living, work, sport, dance, and play, and involves special population groups such as, children and the elderly; persons with disability, injury or disease; and athletes. Kinesiology is a common name for college and university academic departments that include many specialized areas of study in which the causes and consequences of physical activity are examined from different perspectives. The specialized areas of study apply knowledge, methods of inquiry, and principles from traditional areas of study in the arts, humanities and sciences. These areas include exercise and sport biomechanics, history, philosophy, physiology, biochemistry and molecular/cellular physiology, psychology, and sociology; motor behavior; measurement; physical fitness; and sports medicine. An interdisciplinary approach involving several of these areas is often used in addressing problems of importance to society. The study of kinesiology can lead to a variety of careers involving teaching, research, coaching and delivery of services related to physical activity and fitness, health promotion, rehabilitation and sports medicine. Positions are found in a variety of settings including schools, colleges and universities, public and private agencies, clinical environments, government, business and the military.”
Dang. I wonder how far switching majors would set me behind. This is for a different school at the university.
