I have a HUGE problem… my mom is being shall we say uncooperative to my bodybuilding goals. She “doesn’t understand why anyone would want to look like that.” But what really gets her is that she has to buy more food than she is accustomed to. She thinks it is a big fucking hastle to go out and buy a carton of eggs per week. I even offered and consistently do go out and buy milk when we are running low. She says that eating as much as i do is “not normal” as she tries to bargain with me by saying, “well, you can either have the tuna or the meat on the forman grill, it’s just too expensive to buy both!” Oh my GOD, talk about a walking estrogen nightmare. and I’m like, "mom, i already buy my own tuna and get milk whenever you tell me too. She just doesn’t understand what it is I am trying to do and why. In all my families eyes i am a glutton and selfish cause i eat enough for “the whole family combined.” AAArrrrgggg…I just can’t win… oh well, I’m just going to have to continue my massive eating policy and if they don’t like it tough. My dad is like “you eat three meals a day like everyone else, you aren’t normal.” They just pass judgement with absolutely no knowledge of how much discipline it takes to go to the gym almost every day and bust my ass to try and leave this pathetic 165lb body in the dust. How am i supposed to get big on three meals a day…What am I supposwed to do about this problem? Any other T-dudes out there have a similar problem or sympathize?

Puppy on the porch–I know exactly how you feel. My parents didn’t “get it” either. I would polish off a big carton of cottage cheese , finish off the eggs, drink all the milk, eat all the meat etc etc etc and my mom would get PISSED. I had to find a job and I worked 8-20 hours a week through high school so I could support my own eating habits cause my mom wouldn’t get the things I put on the list. I was 155 lbs then and now I’m 195 lbs at age 20. Get a membership to Sam’s club. I just bought 6 dozen eggs there for $3.50 and you can get 6 lb. bags of frozen chicken breasts for like 13 bucks. It doesn’t cost that much to eat like a bodybuilder but it does add up if you know what I mean. If you want it bad enough, find a part time job and work to cover your eating habits. Your mom will never understand. Goodluck

I have a simple explanation for you: you’re a damn beast with a mindset, my man…your mind is telling your body that it must get even friggin’ bigger than it is, and your body is scared to death that if it doesn’t, something very bad will happen. Either that, or all the energy that normally is expended on those activities that you so often refer to in the bedroom is being re-routed to getting massive:-) Now go make your daughter’s lunch and then work your forearms!

Kelly…I can’t say for certain that I push better than I pull or the other way around. Seriously, I’m just an SB that needs some all around work, development and mass. I like the idea of hitting back first in the week though, as it’s not something I’ve done chronically.

BT…the DL sitch presents a minor conflict no matter where I seem to stick 'em. I haven’t finalized anything just yet, but for now, it’s looking like something similar to what the Dogg proposed.

GROWR…900 in one meal is a lot and may not be the best for partitioning, but when you’re an SB and you need the cals, you gotta get 'em how you can.

Puppy…ouch, bro! I’ll send you care packages:-) Seriously, we’ll figure something out…I’ll think up something for you. How old are you? Do you have a job? Can you afford to buy the grub? Ask your family if they want you to look like an SB or one of those poor kids on the commercials. Seriously, explain your goals and exhibit your knowledge and the facts and why such habits are critical.

Timbo SB update: I’ve decided to take a few days rest from the iron game…It’s been a while since I took a break–a long while–and think it’s time. I’ll come back ready to attack the stack like a mofo.

Just got back from a killer DL session. Moved up 10 lbs to do 255 5x5. I have a question though. On my last rep my grip failed and I had to drop the weight. I switched it up to the mixed grip and blasted the weight up with ease. I think if I did all 5 sets with the mixed grip, I’d do more weight but I’d be compromising my forearms and my grip. Do you think it’s a good idea to switch to the mixed grip only when I fail? Or should I go all out with the mixed grip the whole way through?

Massive eating update: I might be hallucinating but I think I'm getting leaner in certain areas, namely the obliques and arms. Do you think it's possible I could be hitting that magical sweet spot where muscle is gained and fat is lost? I know it's pretty much impossible, but man it kind of feels like it right now. I guess we'll see when my calories go higher, I'm only at 3200 right now and JB's formula says I should be about 500 higher.

GROWR use MRPs…seriously…2 gallons of skim and 2 scoops of protein powder in each gives you close to 3500 calories. I have days I go thru 2 and a half gallons of moo juice just because I am busy or cant get decent food until I get home at night…and you just constantly sip on it. As far as 250 being big enough GROWR…WATCH ME!!! 250 will be a memory in 4 months! Nate and Timbo…guess I will be joining you guys doing the forearm excercises for the next 4 months. The doc nearly gave me a heart attack today when he said it might be as long as 6 months before she can return to normal relations (his word for sex) So I guess I have no other outlet then my martial arts and the iron game…hell might even be 325 with all the testosterone I will have built up!! Well…I guess it is time to put my fuzzy slippers on again…pad up and see if the little one is sleeping…then perhaps give myself a manicure…perhaps a facial mask…hmmm…the closets need straightening, perhaps a pedicure…mayby tomorrow I will tape the soap operas…as I said…this Mr. Mom gig aint too bad!

Timbo…since you asked I am 17 years old. I do have a job where I work about 12-16 hours a week. I make 50 - 80 bucks a week which I put half in the bank and use the other half for what used to be CD’s and other useless shit…not anymore though, food all the way. I just went out and bought 16 cans of tuna for this week alone and two gallons of whole milk. Aight, I’ll be back on the board tomorrow or friday to give a progress report to whopper as far as weight goes.

PROGRESS REPORT 5-23-01: As Ice Cube would say, “Today was a good day.” I did deadlifts (255x5,5,5, 265x1, 275x1,1). I knew I wouldn’t get all five sets of five. My hammies are still sore from sprinting yesterday. So I decided to feel a little more weight and make sure my form was good. Then I did some power shrugs (225x5,5,5,5,5) and chins (bw+15x5,5,4,4,4). Didn’t do my 20 minutes on the stairmaster. I’ll make up for it tomorrow with a nice long mountain biking ride. My knee was aggravated during the deadlifts, so I’ll be icing it tonight and trying to lay low. I’m on a Surge high and feeling good. Gonna start packing for my trip to Portland. I’m out for now.

Realizes that lack of sleep, too much worry, and all of the other stress he is under has made him think it was Thursday…not Wed…HOWEVER…weigh in is still coming!! You all have ONE more day to pack on some more pounds…before…JUDGEMENT DAY!

UPDATE - as Ice Cube would say “just wakin up in the mornin gotta thank god”. Im now a walkin lesson in overtraining - ab still sore affecting all lifting and now got a Flu. Nate and Timbo are the good examples here, listen to your bodies istead of pushig it and dont do 8x8 squats on a starvation diet. Ive now missed 2 workouts and my focus is stuffed - I had did 2 coconut icecreams on tuesday?? GOOD NEWS, Im still a bench strength gainin freak - did triples for the first time last week 6x3x220, then some low volume db work on friday (my two a week principle) and on tuesday night jumped previous best from 3x220 to 8x220 with top form. I bet its up similarly next week despite my flu etc. Weighed 172 with etched 7 pack. Maybe we should start a new post for or after weigh day.

Judge Dre…My brother…we are both in opposite valleys…you are overtraining, and I am seeing serious gains since I incorporated my martial arts back into it. Makes me think of an article I read a long time ago…that stated…do the minimum you need to do to gain…because otherwise your body adjusts to the workload…and makes it harder to achive further gains. I think that is the boat I am in…because as I posted above…I didnt start seeing gains again until I got back into my martial arts. Now perhaps it is all the stretching that is aiding my recovery…I have no clue…but I am benching GVT style sometimes twice a week, and hitting my martial arts classes 4 times per week where we do 100 push ups…then about 50 pushups that require you to go down to 1/2 inch off the ground and hold…for up to 10 seconds for each rep when he is in a particularly sadiastic mood…for each class…PLUS heavy bag work…and my arms are growing, and so is my chest…go friggin figure! Anyway, as far as a hernia…I have had 2 operated on, and currently have a third…here is a simple test…lay naked on your back…put your hand over the spot.and cough…if you feel a little pulse under your hand when you cough…it is a hernia. It is actually your intestines pushing thru and against your hand…if you dont feel that “pulse” your OK, it is just a strain. I don’t know if that helps you…but trust me…I have more screening against my abs…then most screen doors…lol! We all have our flaws!!

HURRAY FOR WHOPPER. I knew there would be a test like that and you came though for me again bro. Ive been thinking its just a stain because I have 100% functionality but your test just confirmed it. You take on overtraining is actually new to me but sounds important. So in addition to increasing the risk of injury and illness resulting in backward steps, it can actually compromise furture forward steps as you adapted to those when you overdid it. I probably should be used to it by now, but Im amazed you can make gains in the MA and home circumstances, and then still have time to school us :).

Dre, I appreciate the kind words again bro. For me the iron, the MA and this forum are ways to keep me sane. When I gave up my martial arts for those weeks, the vixen noticed I got a lot edgier and snappy. For me, they are a way to vent (and not get arrested) Put it like this (and this is not a brag…just a fact) Since I started back at my school, I have had 3 students go to the instructor and ask to not have to spar me again…because I am inflicting some serious damage. I just get in the ring, and let it all out…it is VERY phisically and mentally cleansing for me. Today myself and another student who weighs 260 went toe to toe (he had a shitty day also) and we had everyone in the shool watching because we were beating the HELL out of each other…our teacher (bless his heart) just let us go at it until we couldnt stand up anymore. I am now black and blue up and down my ribs, and the side of my head hurts like hell, but I do feel 100% better. THAT is why I do it. It keeps me sane with everything going on around me!! Also, glad my hernia test helped…as I said…I am an old hat at hernias.

Weigh in : 166lbs that is 1+ from last week, i weigh myself naked in the morning before food

Reporting for duty seargent Whopper as of today i weigh 167 lbs at 12% bf for some reason i’m gaining muscle and loosing fat i love this!! Still striving for 8 % bf though and god as my witness i will suceed.If anyones interested i have still been kepping my carbs below 30 a day but have upped the protein slightly switched up my routine a bit and have been eating tuna burgers as described on another post and i recommend them they taste great with some ketchup and it means i can eat like three cans of tuna through out the day with out having to eat it dry (i got physically sick at the thought of thatas i eat so much fish)oh and the recipe works with salmon also that tastes great as well.

Friday pre-workout weigh-in: 162.8 lbs, up 1.8 lbs from last Friday, but average weight for the week is only up 0.7 lbs from last week. I’m getting stronger with what seems like every workout though, so the gains are definitely coming. I’m psyched.

PROGRESS REPORT 5-25-01: Today was a tough day. Front squats 170x4,4,4,4,2 (followed immediately by back squats 5x5, no prob). Bench press 185x4,4,4,4,4. Dips bodyweight+50lbsx5,5,5. Barbell curls 70x5,5,5. No cardio, ran out of time. I’ll be up early tomorrow to run some sprints. Then I’ll be catching my plane to Portland for a week’s vacation. I’ll catch you guys when I come back. :slight_smile:

add udo’s choice oil to your meal replacements, and other meals if possible. one tbsp adds 135 cal, and will not affect your appetite. just don’t take it postworkout.

Where are all the weigh-ins?

I was wondering if size came with strengh. it seems to me that the bigger guys are always the strongest. So it would make sense to train for strengh if u want some extra mass.
