I am just making conversation… I don’t really have a dog in this fight either way. My only concern is PBS in the end not so much npr… if I actually had to choose(if not for this thread I wouldn’t have even been aware… thats how little it affects me O.o lol…)… it kills me to see school funding cut or anything related to such(yes I do consider pbs an educational channel with minimal gimmicks… nova was the shit when I was a kid… still is lol). If I had the power I’d pump 10 times as much money into our education system(excluding things like pbs… keep that where it is :P) that I would magically get from cutting everything else
Imo if you fix education you fix the country… too many dumb people out there… and we have the new generation of people like sarah palin etc… that view people with an education as “elitist”… So we’re just getting dumber by the day.
/end totally random rambling
edit: I should also say… I don’t think someone needs a college education to be successful or educated and pretty much 3/4 of the colleges are total bullshit anyways… and I can’t stand the system. But I do believe a person that can show they have the discipline and dedication to acquire certain degrees… is more LIKELY to be a well rounded individual… and an asset to society… not because of the stuff they’ve learned in class but because of the(like earlier) discipline etc… it takes to achieve.

NPR is too Left to give them gov’t funding with a good conciseness. Half the country disagrees with what they report, yet they have to pay for it? If the shoe were on the other foot, I think you’d have a big problem with it.

Now if we could only do this with public schools too, only not let them tax you or raise your property taxes.

Palin went to college too…
Yeah I wasn’t trying to imply she didn’t(she got a degree in communication and transfered a million times… she did what it takes to get it done I guess)… but that wasn’t the point… she looks down on people that have pursued the same… Shes said countless times that people with impressive resumes and or other things… are elitist and so on. So basically strive to be mediocre and don’t better yourself in any way possible is all I get from her… well on top of tons of laughs. I don’t want to generalize the entire tea party… but I’m going to anyways… thats all I get from them… “fuck education… our kids don’t need it”
Not sure how I made palin relevant to this convo lol… sorry for bringing all that in here.
edit: I should also say… in case I somehow implied this. Having a good resume does not make you a better or worse person. It will most likely make you more qualified for a certain position that is all. Point was there shouldn’t be such a negative connotation associated with such things… and that seems to be the case in todays society. Basically we don’t give two shits about education anymore and its depressing.
I’m gonna stop posting now because I feel i’ve gone way off topic as usual

I don’t think she looks down on education as much as thinking Harvard is not a requirement for high level government service.

Ok I lied in my edit… one more response. I can definitely agree with that… Harvard isn’t a requirement for high level government… not in any way shape or form(it may help… and in a blind guess make you appear more qualified… but it doesn’t guarantee anything etc…)… but I don’t believe thats what she portrays(maybe she did at the beginning?)… the general consensus of the “movement” disregards education in general(also a shameless generalization :P).

Good. Your displayed intellect or lack thereof on this thread does much to indict our education system. The pot and kettle have reacquainted themselves here.
In other words your lame attempts to demean Palin, et al, backfired on you. You look like a fool, my friend.
I’m not trying to portray intellect at all… my ability to write is terrible… I’m dyslexic among a few other things… but I’m also an engineer and other then reports don’t need to be able to write well(and those don’t need to be elegant just clear)(also my second language). I’m not trying to discredit palin… I thought I made that clear… I was saying I disagree with her and the tea parties view on education… and I disagree with all the cut funding to schools. My original point was… fix schools… fix the country… but I ramble a lot and my point gets lost.
I love the ol’, “Yeah, but she transferred a million times in college, she’s gotta be dumb” mantra.
Her accomplishments, and those of people like her, speak volumes about her intellect, Dudley T-Nation/Poster/College Student’s negative comments notwithstanding.
dude… it was a joke… I tried to show that with the “:P” I didn’t think there were actually people on this forum that supported palin or believed she was in any way intelligent in the first place(thats why I apologized for even bringing her up). I bow down to you sir and your 4000 year old dinosaurs… you are a true asset to this society and I thank you for your contributions. I’m definitely done here now… later.

You would think the first amendment would cover freedom of press and freedom of religion the same way. Government should stay out of both.
Just heard Paul Ryan (R) speak for five minutes, criticizing the president’s budget proposal. The interviewer just tossed up questions and waited for Ryan to finish his thought before moving on. If the interviewer challenged any of Ryan’s assertions he was given a chance to rebutt the point. Oh yeah I tuned in late in my car so he had a bit more air time. Can’t be sure how much.
NPR. Of course. Pretty standard stuff. While the reporters that work there are probably mostly liberal, they have journalistic standards and practices that they adhere to.
Sure, you may argue that being publically funded makes them biased toward pro-government. However I think it is a healthy and highly beneficial check on corporate influence in for-profit media. A bargain at the cost.
If it was FOX news and a democrat speaking he would have been shouted down, interrupted, and his 45 seconds would elapse and then the next five minutes would be spent watching commercials for J.G. Wentworth, and Cash for Gold!
