“first they came…” that is all.
edit: actually… I should also say… while I don’t listen to npr often I do enjoy it when I do and do not think it should have its funding cut. But more importantly… I absolutely do not think PBS should have its funding cut… thats not really being brought up so not sure who agrees/disagrees… but PBS is great for the young and the old… it would be sad to see them struggle or collapse
You mean that “then” they will go after other unnessecary programms?
Can you garantuee that?

I don’t follow… either I was misleading in my post or I don’t understand what you’re referencing. Care to elaborate?

I thought that “first they came…” was an allusion to this:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
While I do of course appreciate gratiutous and unwarranted Nazi references, I wonder if they would indeed cut other superfluous programms if they took down NPR.

Ok now I follow… and yes that was the reference… of course there are several different versions that’s why I didn’t put any specific one… just enough to make the point.
some people have an issue and others don’t… soon those other people will be in the same situation… But I guess in the end that’s just the nature of politics. You can always hope for compromise or that people would value the same things but that’s beyond realistic lol.
Do I think they will cut other “superfluous” programs… they will most likely cut what they deem unnecessary even if others disagree… but that’s just the nature of the game… and that’s pretty clearly represented in this thread. Although it appears that more are for then against.
My vote was against cutting if anyone’s counting

Ok, let me spell this out for you:
B-R-O-K-E .
That is what you are.
The time to discuss whether to cut this and similar shenanigans was around 1995.
Now, the question is not whether you cut NPR, abolish all subsidies, end the wars and close all overseas bases, the question is, what you are going to cut then to be able to continue on as a nation.
Or you simply wait, let the walls come tumbling down around you and wipe out all private wealth in the process.
I dont really care either way, I have no dog in the fight.
Regardless of the merits of NPR the federal government needs to stop funding it and 1000 or more other things. I will keep saying it until people listen.
The US economy is heading towards a cliff both parties are pressing on the accelerator and most people are fighting in the back seat like children.
I would have taken bets that they would listen when it was already too late, but lo and behold, it already is to late and they bicker whether it would be better to cut 100 or only 50 billion when the deficit is roughly 1 trillion and state and municipal bancrupcies ae imminent.
Oh well, it will all be most interesting.
I wonder what color the shirts will have this time, all the good ones are already taken.
