Save NPR

“first they came…” that is all.

edit: actually… I should also say… while I don’t listen to npr often I do enjoy it when I do and do not think it should have its funding cut. But more importantly… I absolutely do not think PBS should have its funding cut… thats not really being brought up so not sure who agrees/disagrees… but PBS is great for the young and the old… it would be sad to see them struggle or collapse

If NPR is so good then they should need the governments money.

LOL we will all suffer if they stop subsidizing it.

LOL I don’t want to get political but those damn Republicans.

If you want to save it, donate to it. As for me FUCK IT. I see no point in saving it. If it goes away, I really wouldn’t notice.
If private donors keep it afloat that’s fine, but millions in tax dollars can be spent better. Get rid of PBS too while we’re at it…

Yes, you would get to keep more of your own money!

I can only hope that I would suffer more.

You mean that “then” they will go after other unnessecary programms?

Can you garantuee that?

Typical NorCal cat

I’ve actually never listened to Car Talk. I will look for it.

I’ve always liked All Things Considered and I believe I heard the Fresh Interview of David Sedaris–it was good.

I don’t agree with the Juan Williams firing and yes, believe that funding should come privately, but I also don’t think NPR will go away if funding is cut.

Say fuck no to NPR. Say fuck no to Rush Limbaugh. Say fuck no to any conservative and liberal radio bull shit.

Say fuck yes to Howard Stern.

I agree. I never argued about who should be paying for this station, as I believe it will continue to exist even if funding is altered. I simply stated that the majority of this nation is severely deficient in their knowledge of contemporary events, and listening to something like NPR instead of watching the newest reality show would be wise.

With Republicans back in charge of the House of Representatives, funding for NPR and PBS is in grave danger. Again.

The Republicans just released their budget proposal, and it zeroes out funding for both NPR and PBS–the worst proposal in more than a decade.

We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it’s unacceptable now.

haha, somehow I could’ve guessed that T-Nation would be the wrong place to post this.

Well I knew that the Hitler youth would jump all over it as soon as it was posted, but there are a lot of people that read these forums and don’t post, so I figure there are plenty of people reading this that care enough to sign that petition.

Again, I could give a fuck what these guys think, I’m just putting it out there.[/quote]

haha, hitler allusion = .

I thought that “first they came…” was an allusion to this:

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

While I do of course appreciate gratiutous and unwarranted Nazi references, I wonder if they would indeed cut other superfluous programms if they took down NPR.

No joke.

Even if you didn’t learn anything from Car Talk, it’s worth listening just for the laughs.
I always like when they ask irrelevant questions like “what color is the car?”

lol

Ok now I follow… and yes that was the reference… of course there are several different versions that’s why I didn’t put any specific one… just enough to make the point.

some people have an issue and others don’t… soon those other people will be in the same situation… But I guess in the end that’s just the nature of politics. You can always hope for compromise or that people would value the same things but that’s beyond realistic lol.

Do I think they will cut other “superfluous” programs… they will most likely cut what they deem unnecessary even if others disagree… but that’s just the nature of the game… and that’s pretty clearly represented in this thread. Although it appears that more are for then against.

My vote was against cutting if anyone’s counting :stuck_out_tongue:

I like NPR. Actually I like the local version of it here in Minnesota. They have the news station, a classical music station, and then an alternative/local music station (The Current) that plays some really good shit. I can here Johnny Cash, Atmosphere, The Clash, The Pogues, the Replacements, and Brother Ali all in the same set.

While the news is politically left, it is not so bad to make it intollerable. Hell of a lot better than most of the garbage out thre.

Ok, let me spell this out for you:

B-R-O-K-E .

That is what you are.

The time to discuss whether to cut this and similar shenanigans was around 1995.

Now, the question is not whether you cut NPR, abolish all subsidies, end the wars and close all overseas bases, the question is, what you are going to cut then to be able to continue on as a nation.

Or you simply wait, let the walls come tumbling down around you and wipe out all private wealth in the process.

I dont really care either way, I have no dog in the fight.

Regardless of the merits of NPR the federal government needs to stop funding it and 1000 or more other things. I will keep saying it until people listen.

The US economy is heading towards a cliff both parties are pressing on the accelerator and most people are fighting in the back seat like children.

I would have taken bets that they would listen when it was already too late, but lo and behold, it already is to late and they bicker whether it would be better to cut 100 or only 50 billion when the deficit is roughly 1 trillion and state and municipal bancrupcies ae imminent.

Oh well, it will all be most interesting.

I wonder what color the shirts will have this time, all the good ones are already taken.
