I have been pulled over multiple times. I am always polite. I politely tell them that my lawyer just told me not to answer any questions and ask if I am being detained or if I am free to go.

Out of the many times I have been pulled over, I have been laid down on the ground five times, arrested five times (one of the times I didn’t know my rights and AHP thought they should rip up my luggage and school supplies searching for contraband), and had one experience where I had a gun pointed at me with a not-polite police officer yelling at me in front of people in my community…so, polite doesn’t mean shit if you are standing up for your rights…sometimes.
Oh yeah, you want to piss off a police officer in .25 seconds, tell him you have rights. Your better off saying ‘fuck you’ and hack a loogie in their face. That would piss them off less. You may very well have rights, but they don’t give a shit. If you tell them you have rights, they will hurt you, bottom line.

I know there are plenty of good cops, I know most of them are doing their jobs and aren’t interested in trucking over you just because. The problem is that the number of ‘bad apples’ is a little to high, even if it’s just a few.

We do have a problem with the police in this country. If you happen to catch their attention, they own you, period. Some may act wisely and professionally, other may not. You don’t know who that is until you have dealt with them. They can arrest and detain you for any reason, even if you don’t give them one. Sure you’ll be released and perhaps relieved of the charges, but you still went to jail first.

I have experienced both sides, I have dealt with some really cool cops and some real dicks.
Sorry, for all the ‘doing their jobs’ and shit, they have too much power over the citizen. Most of the time, you do what they say and the situation ends quickly, but it’s their decision to be nice or not. You have no say in the matter. And that’s the problem, you have no say in the matter, none, nada, zip.

That’s odd I’ve lived a long time and I’ve never had a problem not once. If I get pulled over I follow instructions and many times I’ve been allowed to drive on without a ticket being issued. But not one time even when I was a crazy teen and 20 something did I have a bad experience with a Police Officer.

But it really only takes one such occurrence to give someone a bad feeling about Police Officers. Too bad really because the overwhelming majority are good.

Have proof of this? I mean maybe they are not shooting Irish Catholics while protecting Orange Order while they harass and disturb the peace in Hell’s Kitchen. But, I’d love to see some proof of this…
We don’t have any proof that they were “bad” before everyone carried around a cell phone. It seems to me common sense that they are just a tad more paranoid regarding the handling of any case knowing that the person walking past might be filming them.

I could certainly be wrong but it does make sense no?

By what you say, yes. By the truth I doubt it. I am sure there are stats.

I’m curious as to why you were arrested five times. That seems like a lot to me.

Because, no idea. My guess for stating my rights and being a cool mf under pressure.

Ask the four different city police departments I have been harassed by… And there speed traps and roadblocks.

I have been pulled over multiple times over being arrested. So the arrests are a small percentage.

True, but after the first time I got pulled over. Consented to search of my vehicle. Patted down and arrested after I said I questioned them when they were pulling my stuff apart (then I had to pick up my clothes out of the grass/mud on the shoulder) I talked to a lawyer and she recommended my current OP.

I also audio/video record if I can set it up.

They have always let me go (except the one with the gun and then the sarge let me go when I replayed the audio) bc I remain cool and polite even with my face in the dirt.

I maybe socially dense, but I have yet to figure out why I get pulled over so much. The only reason I can think of is I am naturally brown. I live in a place that goes after illegal immigrants and I get caught in the drag net.

So, you have been arrested five times for disobeying the lawful order of a Police Officer? Disorderly Conduct? Perhaps unpaid speeding tickets?

Why would four different City Police Departments harass you?

I’m not quite following…

Me too. I counted up recently at least a dozen times that I have been stopped for speeding, running a stop sign, ect… and I have not gotten one single ticket. Never once beaten or arrested. I was stopped 2 weeks ago out of State going 75 in a 55 and didn’t even get a written warning. I bet the one thing we have in common is that we are both friendly and respectful and neither of us have ever tried to educate the officer about our rights there on the side of the road. Hmmmmmmmmm.

I did something wrong…

Yeah, I get a kick out of the Youtube videos that show a driver educating a cop by the side of the road (eye roll).

I mean really guys some of you are pretty young but even you guys have to know deep down in your gut that this stuff doesn’t really work. In fact, it has the opposite effect.

The problem with some of these people is that they are acting on information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or not applicable to their situation and won’t concede when things are explained to them.

As for asking people to put out their cigarette, it’s reasonable if you can articulate it. I ask people to extinguish their cigarettes because it impairs my ability to detect alcohol on their breath. When I pull someone over with a freshly lit cigarette, I assume they’re trying to conceal the odour of something that isn’t supposed to be present. It’s the same for rolling the window down. I want to be able to see into and smell the interior of the vehicle and driver.

Didn’t the toxicology report show a significant amount of marijuana in Bland’s system? That’s a DWI at minimum right?

There isn’t a legal limit of THC in blood to determine impairment like we have for alcohol. She would have to be obviously impaired, or fail a field sobriety test to be arrested for DWI. A drug recognition expert would also have to perform a test on her. That’s how it works around here, anyway.

No. The only ticket or speeding ticket I ever got was for under-speeding.

No idea. If I did, I would probably stop doing what was causing the effect.

I’ve been stopped many more times than you have and the only time I have had a ticket was for a fender bender for “under speeding”. And, the only thing I can figure out that I keep getting arrested for is for officer safety.

I guess that means that my genes made me a liability to society? I unno…

However, I do not educate. At least not on the road, I do in the classroom and I will now…if you read my words, I tell the officer, “I am on the phone with my lawyer and she says not to answer questions and to ask if I am being detained or if I am free to go?”

Then it is up to them to write me a ticket or let me go. Some decide neither is an option.

As, I also pointed out, the first time I dealt with police in a car they tore apart my car and when I objected to them tearing apart my car, I was arrested.

Before they tore apart my car I was friendly (but, nervous), gave them full permission to search my vehicle. Asked them to keep my stuff in the car so as not to get them dirty. Let them pat me down, &c.

Not to mention that I was thoroughly amused at their seeming attempt to embarrass me as I sat on a road with 1000’s of my fellow students were driving to school that could see my face as I was sat against the back of an SUV with my car on full display while they threw my shit on the ground.
