Yup, pretty sure the tiny block I bought had more meat on it than on that picture.
Just a good ol’ piece of grass fed ribeye with a marbling similar to that chuck is 100% what I would eat even if I had the money to always eat the top notch stuff. Agreed. The latter is more of a delicacy/treat. It probably fuels a lot more soft, fat people than it does big strong people anyway.
I’m not even sure it means that, I think it’s just meat from a particular bread of cow. One of the supermarkets near me (the big, green one) sells “wagyu beef burger” regularly, which makes me feel sad everytime I see it.
I was always under the impression that wagyu was a Japanese style beef that is fed and raised in a particular manner that allows them to be carefree and basically spoiled rotten. The rating system comes into play after its butchered and is rated on marbling, I think?
I’ve never had it personally, but as @magick said, it seems like its texture would be similar to fatty pork. It’s definitely on the bucket list, once I have a ridiculous amount of expendable income.
by the time you get to A5, you might as well just eat some good salted butter for 1/100th of the price. Even comes from the same animal!
Probably one of the most “not worth the price” experiences I’ve ever had.
I wouldn’t be opposed to eating copious amounts of it, but I can see why it’d be a one time deal for sure.
@boilerman you’re talking about Kobe - not all wagyu is Kobe, but all Kobe is wagyu. In terms of spoiling the meat rotten, that is.
But wagyu is just one of the Japanese breeds of cattle, the super expensive stuff comes from one of those breeds.
I was going to echo what @flappinit said, but with less references.
Well at least I apparently tested negative to covid, so there’s that.
@flappinit hey buddy, by chance would you be available to chat on the phone for a bit anytime soon?
Yes dude, of course. How’s tomorrow sound?
Sounds good. You can text me on WhatsApp when it works for you. I’m quarantined so I’ll be available at pretty much any time
It’s cool some of y’all keep touch outside of the boards. I leave everything as soon as FB acquires it. No-one using Signal?
not really, never heard of it. you have it? if you wanna get in touch, there’s always the option of using telegram
Last time I checked (way back when) Telegram was still rolling their own encryption which hasn’t been peer-reviewed and at least then the ownership of the app was… Questionable. I’d have to read up on if that’s changed but as far as I know Signal is the gold standard. FWIW, Facebook uses Signal’s encryption for Messenger (but I’m not willing to use any product owned by Facebook
).
I am not well-versed on that regards telegram’s ownership, but I remember reading about its encryption system being considered a really solid one.
Either way, I don’t think one has to worry excessively about this if they aren’t going to be sharing particularly sensitive information over an app.
Unless it’s peer-reviewed I give it as much credence as the FAA allowing Boeing to certify the safety of their own planes. And that turned out to not be a very successful model.
It’s mostly a matter of principle for me. If there’s no added effort to me to use Signal and it can keep exposed individuals safe while they’d be exposed using other communication tools I’m going to try and be a force that gets people to opt for the most sensible (not the most popular) options. I get most people just don’t care, but I know political refugees and it matters to them. And journalists (some of them). Signal isn’t perfect, but right now it’s the best option around.
I understand the matter of principle, but then you would only be using Signal and nothing else to communicate online at all, wouldn’t you?
With the exception of this forum and email that’s exactly what I do. Signal is for direct communication, email is only really used to communicate with strangers and this board isn’t exactly a form direct communication (as in one peer to another). Maybe that violates the principle all the same. What do you think?
Second covid test came in negative today, confirming that I’ve been locked in for 15 days without ever having had the virus at all.
The law requires me to stay home for 7 more days though: no way. Tonight I’m training; I’ve put up with enough bullshit from laws and guidelines that don’t make any sense.
