oh man, hope you get better!! And soon!!
Ugh there’s nothing as miserable as stomach problems. Hope you feel better soon - and use your lawyer skills to get some compensation from the hotel!
My bloke has a law qualification but never went into the business - but he certainly uses his knowledge to good advantage when it comes to things like refunds, compensation and his rights.
Thanks for the well wishes! Not entirely back to normal - still have this weird, intense, localized pain in my upper abdomen. Not sure if it’s related to the food poisoning since all my other symptoms have gone away. Maybe I pulled a muscle while skiing?
I finally made it into a gym today and I feel sooo much better! I was beginning to go a little crazy, as its been over a week. Just reminded me how much I friggin love working out. I’m definitely weaker than I was a week ago, but that’s to be expected. And I gotta take off the vacation pudge!
Today’s workout:
single arm DB rows: 5x6 @ 35 lbs
zercher squats: 5x6 @ 65 lbs
v-up press: 5x6
3x20 sprinter sit ups (10 each side)
3x20 medicine ball weave-throughs (10 each side)
2x100 jump-rope jumps
Question about the zercher squats - I felt like I could go a lot heavier, but the bar really pinched my arms. What’s a good weight on these? And how do you cope with the arm pain?
Pussy pad

Great to see you back in the gym! I’m also interested in trying the zerchers – so far I’ve only tried it with the Oly bar.
haha pussy pad - is that its technical name? I’ll use one next time I attempt zerchers.
and thanks kimba! It’s good to be back!
Today’s workout was fantastic - I went to my friend’s gym and it was like they’d never seen a girl lift “heavy” before (shocker). One of the trainers used me as an example for his trainee: “See? She’s holding the 30s and she’s not big and scary!” Good stuff for my ego!
Workout:
2x10 SLDLs @75 lbs, 1x9 @ 95 lbs
3x10 DB Bench Press w/ 30s
3x10 bodweight rows on smith machine, bar at waist when standing
3x10 overhead squats, 40 lb BB (I may attempt the OLY bar next time…eee!)
3x10 half-inch worms with a push-up at the bottom
3x12 DB curls, 15 lb DBS (my biceps are super weak)
3x12 overhead extensions, 25 lb DB
Fun stuff! Overhead squats are definitely my new favorite!
Curls with 15lb DBs isn’t weak, especially if they’re good form.

I often feel like a zoo animal in my gym. Guys look at me like, “can this be possible?” Its a bit disconcerting and ego-boosting all at once.
I had my first fail today! Is it weird that I feel a sense of accomplishment?
Workout:
Barbell Step-ups: 3x8 on each side, 50 lbs (next time I’m gonna bring a step into the squat rack, so I can go heavier)
Hip Pop-ups 3x15 each side
Single Leg Squats to Bench, 3x8 each side, 10 lb DBs
45 degree Hyperextensions: 1x8 BW, 1x8 10 lb plate, 2x8 25 lb plate
Good mornings: 2x15, OLY bar (need to go heavier next time)
Back Squat: 1x8 OLY bar, 1x5 95 lbs, 1x5 115 lbs
Box Squats: 1x5 95 lbs, 1x5 115 lbs, 1x1 125 lbs, next attempt @125 EPIC FAIL
The fail was a really weird sensation - I started to get up and my core just started caving in. Managed to get the bar back onto the squat rack, so no harm done! I probably shouldn’t have done these at the end of my workout. Wasn’t going to squat today, but I was waiting for a friend, and was bored, and the squat rack looked lonely…
Fails are maddening, infuriating and very useful all at once. I always try and figure out why the fail happened. Is a body part weak, was there inadequate recovery, am I a head case? And then I psyche up to push past the fail in the next workout.
Wow… i was just reading through your log over the last couple days and fuck yeah! Pullups, handstand pushups and failed squat attempts!! Some one get a mop and bucket…(lol…) Anyways, for zercher squats i always make sure i use them at the very end so the legs are already fatigued and you dont have to hold so much weight. also, try a pause at the bottom…You rock sugar!
Thanks BWG! Still aspiring for numbers like yours, but I imagine that’s a looong way down the road!
Workout:
60 degree incline presses (harder than 45 degree…dunno why): 6x5 w/ 25 lb DBs, 1x5 30 lb DBS (but crap form on these)
Chin-ups: 7x5, 28 lbs assistance
Dips: 7x5, 28 lbs assistance
Reverse-grip Barbell Curls: 7x5 35 lb BB
Metabolic stuff…and dats it.
I hope I get employed soon…I’ve been home a week and I’m already bored. At least the gym is fun!

This is how it should be. Pressing strait down your body would be the easiest position (dips), then decline, flat, the various incline degrees (15, 30, 45, 60, 75) and then you’re strait overhead pressing, which should be the lightest weight.

hmm I think I may have my degrees confused…when you say 15 degree incline, is that 15 degrees up from completely flat? Or is it almost vertical?
Today’s workout:
10 minutes on the spin bike (i really like spinning…I wish it wasn’t so bad for building muscle)
Single Arm DB Rows: 5x6 @ 35 lbs
triset w/
Zerchers: 4x6 @ 65 lbs, 1x6 @ 75 lbs - rcfromdb, I used the “pussy pad!” pain all gone! thanks! ![]()
triset w/ v-up push-ups 5x6
24 sprinter sit-ups superset w/ 30 medicine ball weave-throughs x3
100 jump rope jumps x2
Saw Avatar last night. Needed to mention it b/c it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. I totally geeked out - the 3d visuals were amazing! I feel like this is what seeing Star Wars for the first time must have been like in the 70s.
Sherlock Holmes however, was good, but not great. Robert Downey jr. was tres hawt in the boxing scenes and was a general badass, but Rachel McAdams was kinda a dud as Irene Adler. Not nearly enough badassness!
Ahhh 10 hours until I’m 21!!! Finally!!! I’m going to be really pissed if I’m not allowed into bars because its 2 hours before my birthday…we’ll see what happens!
Today’s workout was really fun…one of the trainers showed me how to use the TRX straps. Doing push ups on those things is definitely challenging!
Workout:
SLDL 3x12 @ 75 lbs <—lazy
DB Bench Press: 3x10 w/ 30 lb DBs
Incline Bodyweight Rows 3x10
Overhead squats 3x10 w/ OLY bar!!!
Half Inch Worms 3x10
DB curls: 3x12 w/ 15 lb DBs, 1x5 w/ 20 lb DBs
Overhead tricep extensions: 3x12, 25 lb DB
TRX strap stuff: 10 pushups, 30 mountain climbers, various core exercises, etc. These are awesome!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your 21st year for all its worth.
P.S. Hugely jealous of those OH squats. DAMN!

Thanks and thanks! I feel pretty badass on both counts ![]()
So not lifting related, but last night turned out to be really fun (I normally hate New Years - my best friends are still in Chicago, where I went to school, and I haven’t been great about staying in contact with my high school friends).
I went to a bar with my parents, brother, and his girlfriend. Within half an hour, a cute guy at the bar bought me AND my entire family a round of shots. This was the first shot my dad has done in 25 years. My mom then dragged my dad off so that the cute guy could properly hit on me. Meanwhile, my brother is working the cute guy’s friend, telling him he’d put in a good word with me if the kid bought him drinks, and then told him my dad would help him get a job (???). He collected several business cards last night, but not before trying to get the cute kid to give me money. I yelled at the bro afterwards for trying to prostitute me. His defense was that nobody’d ever bought him free drinks before, and he wanted to milk the situation for all it was worth.
While this was happening, my parents made friends with some recent college graduates ('08), who bought them several rounds of JD.
All in all, good night!
Workout:
BB step-ups: 3x8 @ 65 lbs
Hip Pop ups: 3x16
Single Leg Squats: 3x8, 10 lb DBs
45 degree hyperextension: 1x8 bodyweight, 2x8 25 lb plate
Good mornings: OLY bar, 2x18
Back Squat: 1x10 OLY bar, 2x5 95 lbs, 1x5 105 lbs <–weak sauce
Hey there S!
Sounds like an excellent New Years!! Great precedence for 2010.
So I see you do your step ups with the BB. I was doing them with DBs but my grip was crap, so I couldn’t go heavier than I wanted. How are you managing stepping up with the BB, it makes me kind of nervous to try them. What kind of step are you using?
Cheers!
Hey M, thanks for stopping by!
My gym has steps that look like this:
http://www.defrancostraining.com/articles/images/t-mag/westside2/unitlateral1.png
I imagine you could also use a bench, but I like the wider top of the steps. Makes me less nervous!
What I do is move the step a foot in front of the squat rack. Then I just duck under the bar, facing the step. So far the max I’ve done is 65 lbs because I think my balance needs to improve before I attempt anything heavier.
