So, how about that Russian Military Buildup Outside Ukraine, eh?

I thought that was their entire army… is it not..?

Honestly, I don’t see how Putin could not invade at this moment - this is as good as it get for the Russians. Per local reports, his troops in Belarus are suffering from a combination of covid, unheated field tents and alcoholism with each passing day, and principal geopolitical foe seems spectacularly incompetent:

Zelenskyy complained that if the U.S. believes a Russian attack is imminent, then it should implement sanctions now. A reporter referenced his argument and asked, ā€œIf you believe [Russian President VLADIMIR ] PUTIN has made up his mind, what leverage do you really have? Why not put those sanctions in place now?ā€

Harris got tangled in her answers. ā€œThe purpose of the sanctions has always been and continues to be deterrence,ā€ she said. ā€œBut let’s also recognize the unique nature of the sanctions that we have outlined. These are some of the greatest sanctions, if not the strongest that we’ve ever issued, as I articulated yesterday. It is directed at institutions — in particular, financial institutions — and individuals, and it will exact absolute harm for the Russian economy. And their government.ā€

A reporter pressed her: ā€œBut if Putin has made up his mind, do you feel that this threat that has been looming is really going to deter him?ā€

ā€œAbsolutely,ā€ Harris said.

But that answer contradicts repeated American predictions that Putin has already decided to invade.

ā€œAs the president has said,ā€ Harris told reporters just minutes after saying the threat of sanctions will deter Putin, ā€œwe believe that Putin’s made his decision. Period.ā€

I agree. Dragging it out is like threatening to get into a fight after school next Tuesday… it just doesn’t make sense when the whole world already knows what their intent is.

Zhirinovsky said two months ago that the Russian invasion will start at 4am CET-1 on the 22nd of Feb. We’ll see in a few hours…

Correct. It was boss. Awesome steaks, weird salads, spectacular beauty. The Gold coast was wow. Kangaroos everywhere. I still have a frog coin purse from the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It’s an actual frog. I saw quickly the koala’s weren’t really down to being held. So I went in the yard and fed kangaroos. I fed a baby right out of mama’s pouch.
The only thing I found irritating was that everybody walked on the wrong side of the sidewalk.

Putin unfazed by sanctions.

Ok, so for those asking ā€œhow does this affect meā€, it seems that the man controlling the largest nuclear arsenal in the world is seriously mentally unhinged. His almost an hour-long speech was really something.

Before Gabbard, Greenwald, Sanders or Carlson tell you it’s about ā€œUS warmongersā€ or ā€œNATO expansion eastwardsā€, Putin made it perfectly clear that his problem is the existence of Ukraine and more ominously the existence Ukrainian people in general. In the speech he made clear he considers their continued existence almost a personal affront.

Anyway, the invasion will probably start very soon. For the record, these are the faces of Putin’s inner circle at a macabre televised cabinet session this morning. I was wondering why they were stammering and sounded as if they’ve shat their pants, but I know now - they found out the boss lost it and some of them are terrified.

This sounds strikingly similar to the Iran-Israel conflict if recollection serves… If history is to repeat itself, sanctions will be placed - Russian GDP will grow, and funding to 3rd party militant groups (to benefit Russia’s interest) will become better funded.

This way, everyone can feel like they did something good - all the while Russia slowly chips away at Ukraine until it folds into mother Russia once more.

That’s because we don’t have sidewalks in Australia, we have footpaths. :grinning:

But we do sort of drive on the wrong side of the road.

No, this deranged speech goes beyond Ukraine, he’s saying the Baltics are next and possibly Finland.

Edit: John McCain and the former US ambassador to Moscow, McFaul were the only two Americans who actually understood what was going to happen. No wonder Putin hated the former with a passion and asked Trump for extradition of the latter. And honorary mention goes to Mitt:

Many countries use the left side.

Like this is still a thing

If you want to go to Aus for the nature/scenery its well worth it… except in the 90s it wasn’t exorbitantly expensive whereas now I believe Aus ranks as one of the most exepensive tourist destinations.

I appreciate your post, because twice I asked how will this situation affect me.

However, though this is upsetting, has he also said he wants to harm America?

Yes, he said that the US is planning to destroy/dismember Russia and launch a preemptive nuclear strike.

OK, got it.

I’ll have to listen to this whole thing, likely in my car driving today.

I was just *responding to the answer @loppar gave you. When he answered your question about Putin wanting to harm America with a post about what Putin says America is planning…well, that was really something.

And this sounds like something straight out of the mouths of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Surely, you don’t believe we should follow the advice of slave owners. Why, they owned slaves. Slaves!
